Update: .hack//G.U. Last Recode is out today, so here's a launch trailer:
Original Story [Thu 23rd Dec, 2021 05:00 GMT]: After a rating for Switch in August, .hack//G.U. Last Recode was officially announced for Nintendo's hybrid platform at the beginning of this month.
It's a remastered trilogy of the original JRPG titles that also includes a fourth chapter - which takes on the form of an epilogue. If you were hoping for a physical release, the good news is you're in luck.
Bandai Namco has announced a physical "Begins Edition" for Switch will be made available in the US on 11th March next year (the same date as the digital release). Pre-orders are available now and the bundle includes the full game, manga + art booklet, and a soundtrack.
This announcement was revealed alongside the news that the game would come to the Nintendo Switch in the US on the same day as the European digital release. Over in Japan, the game will arrive on the 10th of March.
Will you be checking out this game when it releases next year on 11th March? Comment down below.

I’m definitely interested, but the lack of a standard physical option through other retailers is really making me think twice about pulling the trigger. I don’t want this game that badly.
One of the first things I did after waking up was put in my pre-order. I've wanted to get into these games for ages (I liked .hack//Sign as a teen), and while I got the GU trilogy on Steam a while back, I'd much rather play on the Switch. Having a physical copy makes it even better. I figured we'd never get the Begins Edition out here, so I'm happy to be wrong!
Can't wait get back to this series again.
@VIIIAxel .hack//sign is an amazing Anime even though it gets a lot of hate. Sadly enough I never watched any other .hack anime nor played any related games
One of my favorite RPG series of all time. Already pre-ordered earlier.
But weirdly enough I got charged immediately even though their FAQ says it won't for pre-orders until it ships.
Ooh this looks amazing!
Will buy this one for sure. Great trailer!
Never heard of this game before, so will be my first time.
So no European physical release...
Uhhhhhhhhhh......does anyone know how to say that title out loud???
@Greatluigi
"Dot Hack" is how you pronounce the first part lol
Ohhh. 😮
(Insert char limit(
Ordered. Physical + extra crap was more then I hoped for after they delayed this from coming to Switch for years
I've got the PS4 version. As tempting as the soundtrack and manga are, I don't think I'll double-dip on this.
@Liam_Doolan
Will be placing an order later today.
Thanks for the heads up, Liam.
@Redfield70x7
It hasn't been confirmed yet, but the Southeast Asian release will most likely support English. Keep an eye on the Play-Asia listing for the game.
I never played this series. I’m so excited to get this. It’s a day one purchase. I always wanted to try it.
I have the .hack series on PlayStation so won't be rushing just to have it portable.
Not interested.
Theres a lot of other games i would like to see Namco publish on the Switch, this certainly isn't one of them.
@Magician Thank you! That is very helpful. I’ll definitely be doing that now.
They should allow other outlets that would help increase buyers.
@Gamer_Zeus Theres a lot of other games i would like to see Namco publish on the Switch, this certainly isn't one of them.
Then Name them......
@Gamer_Zeus Then don't complain - seems you have other problems with Bandai and the games has nothing to do with it.
@SwitchForce name them? Okay.
Dark Souls
Or Souls Calibur or a new Naruto game, how about a One Piece game.
We get Bandai Namco's shovelware and DBZ games, outside of DBZ, they've given us dribble.
But obviously many people like yourself are content with second rate games, you know they are publishing Eldan Ring right? Maybe it would be nice if they gave us some other Dark Souls games finally.
Oh and if Bandai told FromSoft to make more Switch games, FromSoft would make more Switch games, so don't try pulling that lame excuse.
Outside of their lack of effort, i have no other issues with Bandai.
@VIIIAxel Totally same. I got it on Steam some years ago. I think I finished the first and was like “…can I just have this on Switch?”
.hack// is amazing!
Looks like they don't even ship to Europe. Would it kill them to make their game available to more than a handful of people?
That name gives me a migraine.
Cool. Always wanted these games but never got round to it on the other formats.
Bought the Japan version since other mention it had EN txt for it but Bandai US version has little to same as Japan but Japan has better packaging and some extra with it.
@Aezetz
Since when does //sign get hate?
It's usually the other ones //Legend of the Twilight, //G.U., //Roots that get it.
@SwitchForce
What extras?
Still waiting for my shipment. Screw that 12.99 shipping though. Luckily nothing else needed off that site in the future
@Spider-Kev did you even look at the same Japan version.
@ReaperMelia I've never played any of them but always been interested, anything you can say that they are similar to?
@Spider-Kev not by .hack lovers but by anime lovers because they think it's boring.
@Aezetz
Then those people are dumb!
@SwitchForce no.
Got a link to it?
@Spider-Kev I know right hahah
Now I will watch all the other .hack series, thanks for the reminder (and the notification system here since it's an older post)
@Aezetz
You're welcome.
I've been a huge .hack// fan since before day one!
Back when TokyoPop had their forums, I was one of the founding members.
When they closed them, I created a forum and ran that for a few years and most everyone from the forums came to it.
I miss those days!
@Spider-Kev First you need a browser that can read Japanese or translate to be able to read the description or can read Japanese otherwise the link won't do much.
@SwitchForce
I can speak and read Japanese.
70$ shipping on a 60$ game, yeah no... why can't we get it in store t.t
@Spider-Kev Only wished I had that option when in HighSchool to learn Japanese that would be something good to know nowdays for me.

@SwitchForce
My schools didn't offer it.
I had to learn it on my own.
@Spider-Kev No way...my location was too white-washed so trying to get a education in High School was only French, German, Spanish. I heard later on they offered Chinese but Japanese would've been something to know if not being fluent in Japanese.
@SwitchForce
My schools only offered French (which I took) Spanish and Italian
