Blasphemous is, in this scribe's humble opinion, a standout Metroidvania / Souls-like / insert-iffy-comparison-here game on Switch. It's moody, at times overbearing and excessively gory, and certainly rather immersive. It's had some meaty free updates and content additions since its launch two years ago, and now we know there's one more to come.
During the Awesome Indies Show from Gamescom it was revealed that the 'final chapter' for the game arrives as a free update on 9th December - it's titled 'Wounds of Eventide' and it had a rather enjoyable introductory animation (above).
It was also announced that a full sequel - Blasphemous II, of course - is in development and is planned for release in 2023.
Let us know in the comments if you're planning to take on this upcoming DLC in Blasphemous!

Hell yeah I'm grabbing this! Love the game as a whole.
I've been wanting this game for a good while. Might as well buy it now
That is awesome! I definitely recommend this game to anyone considering it, just be ready for a tough, gory time!
I only just bought this last week and I love this game.
Can't wait.
Bring me the pain.
Great game. It's like a Hieronymus Bosch painting come to life.
GReat game. Really good boss fights. But I hate those spikes!
This game must have been a success if it kept getting supported for so long.
One of the best metroidvanias I've played. Can't wait to see what they can do in the sequel!
I’m impressed they are doling out the DLC for free. It’s hilarious that AAA companies continue to nickel and dime anything they can and indie developers of a amazing game that people would happily hand money for do this.
Double dipped and picked up the digital and deluxe physical for this game! The atmosphere of this game is incredible. Can’t wait for II.
The pixel art is just wonderful. It's got a heavy theme, perfect for a Metroidvania. And I'd say the developers are being more than generous because they delivered a wonderful package with the first version of the game, no dlc was necessary for the price asked and for the content offered. If they're releasing more, I can just say thank you to them
Yusss! I really enjoyed this game and now I get more content for free in a few months?
Happy to hear a sequel is on the way too. This was a great game! Highly recommended for Metroidvania fans!
Every time I see Blasphemous my love of good metroidvania games makes me want it, but then I look at the screen shots and get scared. Just a little too dark for me.
So, I guess someone will be able to release a physical version of the new version of the game then lol.
The game never really clicked with me.
I love its presentation and and its approach of combining souls-like elements with a medtroidvania core are solidly done.
But it can be a pretty clunky game at times.
Like everything involving the wall climb mechanics is just super frustrating.
Bundled with the already frustrating soulslike aspects, it eventually became too much for my taste so it was shelved again.
@Einherjar Did you play it after the last big update?? The controls and physics improved a lot, I heard. I played it after that and I didn't have any issue.
@Einherjar same thing with me, I was waiting this game like Christmas morning but the controls keeps me from enjoying as much as I would like to. The game is hard and is and if you count those falls from when the controls get in the way it can be a frustrating experience.
@the_beaver I don't know if I have play it after the update, I have two little kids and they are always around when I play so I can't commit as much as I would love to ☹️
@the_beaver No, it has been quite a while since i played it actually. I'll eventually give it a second chance though.
It was definitely not a horrible game. But precision platforming and soulslike shenanigans really don't mix well with clunky controls ^^
But thanks for the headsup! I'll look into it.
So the DLC is a cartoon?
Beautiful trailer
Really dislike the design of the levels and enemy placement, but I'm not going to turn down free dlc. Just... gotta plod my way to end now. I wonder which hidden, off-screen spikes I'll land on next?
Loved the game, just a shame my physical cartridge will not have the DLCs on it.
Will go back to it at some point, but got such a backlog, probably not for a while.
It’s an intriguing game. It has an incredible haunting atmosphere that stays with you long after playing. I was living in Spain at the time I did my first playthrough so all the catholic imagery really clicked. One of my favourite Indies in recent memory. This and Hollow Knight were made for Switch.
Nearly picked up a physical copy of this a few weeks ago, but got Blue Fire instead. This looks great, but i may get frustrated with it. Still have to finally finish Bloodstained and Dead Cells anyhow.
Oh yeah, there will be a sequel! Great news indeed!!
