You don't see many Nintendo 3DS systems out and about these days, but when they do pop up, it seems they really show up in style.
Nintendo's last-gen portable was arguably one of the best handheld consoles ever for making you want to take it with you wherever you go. Thanks to its StreetPass and SpotPass functionalities, where walking past other fans also carrying a 3DS netted you rewards, we were forever taking our machine with us on walks, on public transport, and wherever we could, all in the hopes of crossing paths with someone new.
Since the Switch's launch in 2017, fewer and fewer players have been heading out with their trusty 3DS – a natural turn of events, but sad all the same. Yet here we are, in 2021, with an original Aqua Blue 3DS being spotted at a rock concert, not only alive and well, but being used to film the show.
Inspirational, although we can't help but feel that a 3DS isn't exactly the most convenient platform to use for recording concerts – maybe the owner really wanted to be able to relive the show in 3D?
Perhaps in a few years' time, this 3DS will end up on eBay, with its confused buyer wondering why on Earth it comes with 3D front-row footage of a Bring Me The Horizon gig. "Huh, I didn't know this came pre-installed."

Bring me the three-dimensional horizon.
I did like that with my Old 3DS XL (taking photo, recording video) before i have smartphone in September 2016.
I still keep the videos of events when i had retreat at Malang with other teachers, attended a bodybuilding contest at my local fitness gym, when we had some cats and their kittens from outside playing inside our backyard.
I did the same thing too with my New 3DS XL for taking pictures and recording videos at villa where we had gathering time with all teachers in July 2018.
Still have my Toad Classic 3DS on me at all times.
I won it by entering a competition on the Nintendo UK website back in the day:
So fair play to them
Absolute legend.

@Bunkerneath That is beautiful! Thanks for showing the picture.
This guy wins the internet!
I love the 3DS, it's probably my favorite console of all time. Great to see like-minded people here.
Ah! That's where I have to go for missing Streetpass puzzle pieces!
Still carry mine out everyday
I still don't get why people feel the need to film during concerts instead of actually enjoying the show.
@dBackLash To look back on the concert memories.
I don't like doing it, but I get why people do it.
The 3DS' two outer cameras can't capture much depth from a distance anyway, it's only good for closer subjects.
I miss that 3D tech. I'm skipping the OLED but if they'd brought out a 'Switch 3D' I'd be first in line!
the person who recorded thar on their 3DS is a champion but for Bring me the Horizon of all band?
3DS still has way more features than Switch.... 5 years into it. Hmm.
A console for the ages. New 3DS XL is tops!
@dBackLash I can see why people might want to record a small clip here and there. But the majority I meet try to record almost the whole thing, which is extremely annoying if you are behind them.
Personally, I prefer to film all the concerts I go to with an iPad Pro.
@SwitchVogel Not everyone has ipad...
@Bunkerneath I have that exact console too! I registered a 3DS game on My Nintendo UK and it automatically put me in a prize pool. 100% didn't expect to win one. And I thought the toad one looked the best and went for that.
Still have the box it came near mint with the AR cards unopened etc. I will never sell it! too pretty.
You can say we need a Switch Pro. You can say Metroid Dread isn't worth the same as a full retail game. You can say Nintendo's output is disappointing. You can even say games were better on the NES.
But NEVER say a BMTH gig isn't fun.
I lawled SO hard at this. Great way to start the day. Also. Metroid Dread to-more-ohhhhhhh
Man if only the 3ds weren't over the switch price on ebay. I thought since the 3ds was just last generation it was going to get cheaper.
BUT IF YOU FILM IN 3D THE HORIZON WILL LOOK FURTHER AWAY AND THEREFORE LESS OBTAINABLE
OH THE IRONY
man it's like oli sykes' hand really pokes out of the screen.
note: was listening to bmth reading this lol. also 1x1 (the song being perfomed) is my favorite from survival horror.
@Maximumbeans Post Human: Streetpass Plaza
Given this was before the Switch release, but I did take my 3ds to record part of a Beach Boys concert it was outdoors, daylight, and was close to the stage!
@Perryg92 I got it that way too. I still have the box and instructions etc all neatly tucked away, except I use my 3DS everyday so the shoulder buttons work sporadically and the rubber from the control stick has been lost for a few years.
@cherridog Nova Twins are super underrated! They sound great live too. I personally like Kingslayer best, because "doop doop doop doop blegh"
3DS FTW! Lofi photography!
😪I'm so annoyed I missed out on the 3DS when it was popular; I was too busy on PS3.
I do now have a N3DS:XL in dark blue and it is/was a great Handheld but the moment has gone for me to enjoy StreetPass etc.
I'm making up for it by bring my Switch with me (nearly) everywhere, though I don't see the point at the moment.
@RupeeClock Our eyes also arent far away, making far away objects without depth)
3DS still remains my all-time favorite system. Something about it, the games, the whole era it was part of from launch period through Switch launch, the Iwata/Reggie E3's, everything about that period of hardware somehow remains an absolute favorite memory. Switch should have continued that but it's mostly existed with two big surges (with a third on the way) and a bunch of dead-air time in between. That was some of the best years, I think in gaming history. PS4 got abandoned thanks to it, and I spent too much time playing couch handheld because 3DS games were more interesting than PS4 games most of the time.
Seeing the launch Aqua color again....brings back memories. Can we go back to 2011? Pleeeaaase?
@Dafirelive problem with that is that it’s out of production, and was a popular system.
I love this but I can't help but think "what if someone bumped it and it feel to its doom!" Oh man... I can see myself doing this exact thing but would be afraid just from the fear of accidentally dropping it... Is it bad if I'm more worried about dropping my 3DS than I am my iPhone 12?
It's not a question of durability: it's moreso because it's MUCH harder to replace may 3DS than it is the iPhone.
pretty cool since their latest album was influenced by video games! (doom, death stranding, parasite eve, etc.)
@dBackLash Quite possibly the worst thing to do at real live music shows. So annoying!! Yes a small clip or 2 is acceptable but the whole show? Insanity. I've been to so many rock & roll/metal shows and I've seen people watch the entire thing through their device(s). It's unthinkable how we've evolved to that practice.
This might be an obscure thing to ask but does anyone remember someone filming/playing on a 3DS in the London 2012 Olympics, in the track cycling? I swear that's what it was, I have the highlights DVD and I spot it every time, but I also remember seeing it live and thinking "that's a 3DS!". I think it was when Victoria Pendleton won her gold, you can see it in the crowd when she's doing the victory lap. I swear it.
@Ganner I was at an Ozzy show a couple years back and the person in front of me had their phone up high, filming. Second song in I reached over and pushed the phone down. She gave me a look, and I said you're blocking my view.
The worst part of all the recording is how tame the pits have gotten.
@SwitchVogel Much higher quality in 4K so makes sense.
@NinChocolate Me, too! I even still get StreetPass hits like... once every two months or so.
@kurtasbestos haha nice!
@Jeff2sayshi
Just glad I was in OzzFest '97 before camera phones were a thing.
Great mosh pit, great times great bands (mostly)
@Perryg92 @Bunkerneath Those were great looking consoles. Shame some went unclaimed by the winners.
I cannot blame this person at the concert. The 3D camera is great and those launch consoles were rock solid - literally!
I still carry my 3DS around Surrey Haven't seen the green light in ages though
@ninchocolate @kurtasbestos & @MaseSco
Still carry mine around everyday too! Gotta get those steps in!
I’m way too busy owning the mosh pit to do anything like that! Still, props.
I still break mine out from time to time to play virtual console games. Last week I finally got around to playing Samus Returns in preparation for Dread.
Absolute Legend
