Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania was certainly a stand-out announcement during Nintendo's E3 Direct, bringing a whole lot of the IP's best content to Switch.
With over 300 stages from the first two GameCube releases, a story mode, online leaderboards and some rather effective looking gyro controls, it could be a huge amount of fun when it lands on 5th October.
Nintendo's now posted a new trailer (above) titled Wondrous Worlds, showcasing quite a few locations and characters that'll feature in the game. It does look like SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have done a good job, incorporating the classic colourful look with some HD sheen.
Let us know what you think of the trailer and whether you're planning to pick this up during Autumn / Fall!

Inject it into my eyeballs already. I can't wait for this!
I wonder if they've glossed over the story mode for SMB2, and just made the cutscenes into something very basic?
Is there a campaign to these games?
@Jey887
Super Monkey Ball 2 had a story mode, but the first game was purely arcade in experience.
The gist of the story mode is you clear worlds by beating a minimum number of stages and then move to the next world, with cutscenes in-between.
I don't get it: The first Monkey ball is already on Switch, and now it gets released AGAIN as part of a collection? Weird.
Never played monkey ball but I think I'll try this one out
@Henmii
The one Monkey Ball game on Switch prior is Banana Blitz, a HD remaster of a WIi title that was infamous for its mandatory motion controls, jumping mechanics, and boss battles.
This re-release of Monkey Ball 1 + 2 + Deluxe adds in optional motional controls and jumping mechanics that were not present in the original games.
These games also never had boss battles.
@RupeeClock Cheers. So there is some form of progression then. I've never played any of these but have always had an interest in them. Will pick this up for the me and the kids if the reviews are favourable.
@Henmii You quite literally couldn’t be more wrong. Banana Blitz is the 4th mainline game. This is the first two.
@Jey887
Yeah, with SMB2's story mode, I recall that it does not use a lives system as such so you can keep trying the challenging stages of each world until you can clear that world.
SMB1's arcade system on the other hand, you had limited continues, but you'd earn points through play that go towards unlocking extra continues per game.
Of course, there were the extra levels per difficulty that you could only play if you beat the standard levels without using a continue.
Where’s @GrailUK eh?
This'll be my first game in the series, it looks quite fun. Already pre-ordered it and I'm pretty excited to try it out!
BEST. GAME. EVER!
It looks like they are adding loads of options. Tilt, jump, music, free camera (although I would guess when you are stationary). And nothing detracts from the originals. Man, literally everything I wanted. (I still have a very small concern over the rolling sfx which are a tad disperate from what is happening on screen.)
I'm so happy I'm going to explo-
@GrailUK I assume they will be sending you a review copy. 😉
October is TOO FAR AWAY!!!
Never been so happy to buy a game I already own, I might even buy the digital deluxe version at this point.
Looking forward to hearing the music - the graphics seem like a nice mix of the original and Banana Blitz HD so I assume the same is happening for the soundtrack
As much as I enjoyed the Monkey Ball games back in the day, does anyone else think this is the one console series that would thrive as a phone game? The phone has to have a gryo but I could see it working there best.
@Radbot42
There actually are a couple of Super Monkey Ball games on mobile.
I remember playing Super Monkey Ball on iOS on a much older iPod touch, and it was pretty good considering at the time.
I remember enjoying it considerably more than the 3DS game, both being motion controlled.
And now on Android there's Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition, no idea if that one's any good or not.
If this game doesn't let you play the main stages with other people like the previous games, I'm not getting it.
Yes please. Just want to know who in the UK is doing the art book (probably more a pamphlet in truth) then ordering me some sweet monkey action
@RupeeClock and @nessisonett,
Okay, I didn't know that the Wii title was a different title. Now I understand, there's no overlap.
Ah brings me back to the days of playing the Deluxe game on Xbox back in the day. Day 1 for sure.
@NinjaWaddleDee That pass the controller mode in the first game was pure gold, me and my friends played that mode way more than we did any of the mini games.
Ideal world that’d be an online mode here but I’ll settle for it just being local as long as it’s there at all.
@larryisanassman Yep, we basically just played that, and Monkey Target. So its a deal breaker if that mode isn't in here. It wasn't in bannana blitz or the HD remake, so I'm not optimistic about it.
@Tandy255 Oh, I have zero interest reviewing it. I just wanna play it. (But they are welcome to send me a play copy. Is that a thing?)
This looks great!!! I love monkey ball!!
@RupeeClock
I hope the Super Monkey Ball 2 / Deluxe story mode is here in all it’s glory!
@Henmii
I’m sorry, WHAT! Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz WAS NOT the first Monkey Ball game, all the games in this collection are not on Nintendo Switch.
I love all the accessibly options! I find playing games I bit hard sometimes, so the extra time, goal locator, slow time, free camera, jump, etc will really help me on the harder levels! This means I’m gonna get A LOT out of this game! Thanks Sega!
Also loving all the other new features like Snapshot, rotten banana mode, Gyro controls, customisation and missions!
I love the classic music too much though, I’m gonna have to purchase that DLC; I’m also not passing up the option to play as a Dreamcast!
I am all over this like some kind of weird tropical rash. Loved the first two on GC, so will be in hog (monkey?) heaven.
I just hope the party games will be as fun as they were on GameCube.
That's where I spent 90 % of my time.
@Pandy
Didn't you read my last comment? I am now in the know that the games on this collection wheren't available before on Switch.
@Henmii
I did notice, after I posted the comment.
Still trying to complete the last one that came out in 2019. Getting Gold medals isn't easy. Especially on world 10. Can't wait for more
MeeMee launched through the air, upside down, screaming (0:53) is a highlight!
@Pandy
Its okay!
