We've already spent quite a few column inches on the much-awaited 1.0.5 patch for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, and how it'll go some way to fixing the tedious Maker machines and the boring dialogue. The patch was released in Japan at the beginning of the month, and now — after localisation and certification delays — it's finally coming to the West.
It's safe to say that this patch is the one that most players have been looking forward to, since it deals with a lot of the bigger issues that weighed the game down at launch. The XSEED blog blames the delay between the Japanese release and this one on the "large volume of additional text that had to be localized," which gives us hope that the dialogue will be refreshed in a big way.
The current release date is Saturday the 26th of June, so hopefully there won't be any last-minute problems that push it back any further.
Also on the XSEED blog, the developers spoke about the next patch, 1.0.6, which will add the following changes:
- Makes it easier to see who is running the event at festivals
- Adds an event for when the player participates in the Egg Festival by themself
- Add the ability to change your child/your animals’ names
The option to change your child/your animals’ names has been added to available blessings at the shrine - Improves visuals when completing town requests
- Improves visuals when upgrading tools
- Improves character behavior when talking to villagers who are eating, fishing, etc.
- Implements a new message when returning home at 2AM
- Fixes an issue where the game could freeze after the child adoption event when several events occur in succession
- Fixes an issue where the load screen could freeze when leaving a coop
- Fixes an issue where the game could freeze during the Mushroom Hunt when picking up a mushroom after changing the camera distance in a certain area
- Fixes an issue where the game could freeze when the player interacts with an animal immediately before it returns to its coop or barn
- Fixes an issue where the game could freeze when starting the game with no controller connected
- Fixes an issue where pressing the A button repeatedly while moving in front of an unrepaired farm facility could cause actions that use the A button, such as picking up items, to not work
- Other minor bug fixes
So, although we ask this pretty much every time we cover the Story of Seasons patches: Will this be the patch that brings you back to the game, or are you done with Pioneers of Olive Town for the foreseeable future? Let us know in the comments below!

I really hope Marvelous will release the Ultimate version in physical release when this game already fixed and patched here and there. More patches with some fixing issues made me think this game was not ready to be released yet, it should be delayed until next year.
I really hope it will get PS4 version with better performances and latest update.
Tbh I got it at launch but not played it yet. Going to get the season pass when best marriage candidate (Iris) gets released.
looks like it's time for me to finally pick up this game then
I've been looking forward to this patch. I haven't played since launch week and will be starting over this weekend.
@SilentHunter382 Good news, the part of the expansion pass with Iris dropped yesterday.
Oh really I need to get back to this game....
Anyone knows if the game is good now after all the patches and expansions ? I'm still waiting for it.
@SilentHunter382 yes yes good taste
@StardusterEX Well looks like I know what I will also be playing this weekend. Thanks for letting me know.
Never left Olive Town but happy to see constant improvement.
I just wish you could push the livestock. You can kinda get in the way of where they are walking and they will move opposite/against you but that isn’t actually guiding them and some of them are slow walkers. Looking at you Mookan!
@SigmaNoire Eh... It really, really depends on what your tastes are. Some people really like it. The update to the makes certainly helps, though I still think it feels like it’s trying too hard to be Stardew and... just not doing it nearly as well. Which isn’t to say I’m not having fun. It’s a good game, but I personally feel that it’s not a good BokuMono game. ...Does that make sense? I’m not sure I’m explaining it well...
@SigmaNoire The west got a head start as we got the day 1 patch that cleaned up much of the lag. As such I have been playing since launch and I enjoy it (255 hours in). The game is deceptively small though. There are a number of areas to unlock that give you much more farming space. It doesn’t do very much new for Bokumono and the stardew comparisons are unwarranted as it is more like a sos 3ds and either Tree of Tranquility or Save the homeland with a bit of the snes game tossed in a blender.
That being said the farming is robust with good crop varieties, there are a decent number of townsfolk to meet and a number of live stock variants with feeling redundant. The maker complaints are valid but often exaggerated. I have about 25 makers in active use (many are duplicates because I have different product levels. Once I get them to 10 I will reduce my makers) and very little if any slowdown. And I only use 2 of the three areas for farming and live stock.
As a game it feels like a greatest hits album. Nothing new but many great ideas in one place.
@Ryu_Niiyama If it's just like the 3DS one, it's good enough for me, I just didn't really want a downgrade. I mainly just need to cover the waiting before RF V, I'll probably get it in August since there are too many new games I need in July (Ys IX, MH Stories II, NEO TWEWY, Ace Attorney)
Been waiting for this patch to actually dive in! But one other thing I've been worried about — the speed of time.
I felt that in SOS: FOMT, the day timer went pretty fast. I felt rushed to do things. Did they slow it down at all in Pioneers? Or give us an option to adjust?
@SigmaNoire please note I said in a blender so it isn’t a 1:1 but the games I mentioned are what it reminds me most of. Note the shipping is way streamlined as opposed to the first 3ds game (which some folks don’t like). I feel like it trimmed some of the fat while keeping core mechanics. The dlc is only worth it so far to get clothes and spouse candidates.
Update is live in the US.
Downloaded the UK patch last night, played it for a bit and it feels so much better with no lag or slowdown. I could take over half the makers as way too, as you can batch them now and do 10jobs. Think I'll be picking this up a lot more again, and just after I got Friends of Mineral Town too 🙄
