Winds of Change is a Canadian-made visual novel that first came onto people's radars in 2019, when it raised 392% of its Kickstarter goal. It came out on Steam not long after, and almost two years later, it's making its way to Switch, too, thanks to the support of publisher Crunching Koalas (Thronebreaker, This War of Mine).
You can probably tell a lot about Winds of Change from the screenshots — it's a game that's all about navigating the wreckage of a civil war through the lens of furry characters. You'll play as the Seer, who — as the "chosen one" — will be able to make decisions that change the fate of the world.
Inspired by deep branching narratives like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, Winds of Change has a complex story with "difficult, impactful choices", with a setting that the lead developer and writer Klace describes as a "mature, dark fantasy". The game is also fully voiced — a rarity amongst visual novels — including voices who've worked on Overwatch, My Time At Portia, and Danganronpa, as well as the voice of New Pokémon Snap's Rita.
Winds of Change will come out on the Nintendo eShop on the 3rd of June for $19.99 (US) or £17.99 (UK).

I think the correct answer to your question is, "Yes."
One of the features from the steam page is:
"Pursue friendships, and even romances! (not limited by gender)"
Hmmm.... 🤔
https://store.steampowered.com/app/594130/Winds_of_Change/
Did I see Danganronpa 👀
I've had enough internet for today.
@Gabaz09 you think your kids are going to happen upon this game and accidentally buy it and then what? Become a furry, and then you’ll have to shun them? I guess this is a valid response. Afterall, I don’t let my kids play with Lego. Even though they’ve never expressed an interest in becoming the most reviled of professions, architect, I can’t be too safe.
Anyway, glad anyone who’s interested gets to enjoy the game!
Someone took Bowser's Furry way too literally.
@Gabaz09 Nintendo platforms have offered adult material, pornography, abusive language, graphic violence, etc. for decades. I would have hoped you were a responsible parent long before you decided to post this drivel.
The character's faces look swollen, like they've been stung by bees.
@Gabaz09 disgusting? I mean, I don't know anything about the game, and I don't intend to buy it.
That said, assuming it's sfw, I wouldn't say it's disgusting.
Though the steam page says you can persue relationships regardless of gender, so I wonder how that works...
Is this what have become of devianart?
There are ways to market games about anthropomorphic animals. Just look at Nintendo and Sega. But this... this isn't how you do that. -_-
The furry stuff isn't for me, but this looks like a pretty solid visual novel. Full voice-acting is neat (as well as the cast itself!), and the fact that the dating mechanics don't seem to be gender-locked is nice to see.
There's definitely a market for this stuff, it's not hurting anyone!
I like feet so I don’t judge. Speaking of which, where are our foot worship games?
Even if this isn't people's cup of tea (admittedly, not mine, but more because of the medieval setting and VN genre), I'm not sure why it warrants some of the negative/dated comments it's getting here.
In a world where games like Gal*Gun, Senran Kagura, and countless VN that are explicitly about romancing waifus/husbandos inch ever closer to the mainstream, while remaining unapologetic in their degeneracy, it just seems quaint that one VN featuring "relatively attractive-looking furries having intimate dialogues" is where the line is drawn. This isn't the 2000s anymore.
Visual novels don't interest me.
@Gabaz09 you should be able to set what rating they are allowed to play / see, At least I think you can.
I'll probably end up picking this up on Steam because I really don't think I have it in me to play this on a TV in front of others
What the hell is wrong with being furry?
@PortuGuy Do you understand what they are talking about? How is this "disgusting"?
@PoopScoop Your profile picture contradicts with your comment.
Eugh, normally I like playing games with anthro characters in them. But this looks like it was blatantly designed by a furry that wants to have overt sexual scenes in it like those weird Japanese games where you're able to touch girls. Even the art style is so generically furry that all the characters have all these weird grins.
@Otherboard Too bad that marketability is more suited for those types of online-only flash type games, because the creator's tend to make a game for a niche audience that expects lewd stuff in it.
@russell-marlow Not all furries expect lewd stuff in games aimed at them though, especially since furries were hired for games like Spyro Reignited and Crash N. Sane Trilogy because of their fanart. Furries expect the same things out of games that everyone else does
@Spyke Well, Twitter tells me otherwise.
Let's not yuck anyone's yum in these comments, folks. Let people like the things they like. @DTFaux is right — there's plenty of room for games like this on the market
If you don't like it, there are plenty of other things on this site that you will like, and you'll have a much more pleasant evening reading those, instead.
@russell-marlow Listening to Twitter is rarely a good idea, trust me on that
@Spyke Well, it's where most furries reside. That and furraffinity but I wouldn't want to go there even if my life dependent on it (shudders).
I'm going to be honest, furries tend to ruin things that most people like. I feel like that's the reason why most people dislike them (I shouldn't explain why because I think most people know why) and why there aren't many games with anthro characters that much outside of games like Pokemon that are more marketed towards kids.
@PortuGuy What did they say?
@russell-marlow It's actually been proven that most furry hate is thinly-veiled homophobia because furries tend to be very LGBT-friendly. And anyone who can have something so easily ruined for them probably have issues of their own that they need to work on.
Its not worth going through this conversation so just look at this meme and get a general gist of it.
People when furries
OG comment:
@russell-marlow Bruh!? Why do you think all furries are bad? Some furries might ruin things, but 1. No all do and 2. That's what they want to do, you should not judhe them on that.
@russell-marlow BEASTIALITY!? You're really comparing people being in costumes and making cute art to beastiality!?
@russell-marlow If you think being into furry art and beastiality are the same thing then I think we found the problem. What you are talking about is animal cruelty, and if there's anything furries hate, it's animal cruelty. Furry characters in relationships is also actually no different than relationship with elves, orcs, or aliens in other media, and some media like The Elder Scrolls make it explicitly clear that races like the Argonians and Khajit are not animals and are very much people like the other races.
@HotGoomba So you're trying to single out the people that make that type of animal artwork?
@russell-marlow No, I don't like it either, but its not beastiality. Unless you're literally having sex with animals, its not beastialy. Might as well say that all Nintendo users are babies or something.
And also, you're saying it like ALL furries do these things. Dammit, most furries I know won't even buy a fursuit or make a furry characther.
@HotGoomba Can confirm, I know more furries into VRChat than I do ones with actual fursuits
@russell-marlow Most furry art doesn't have any actual abuse, so if you're bring out all of this propaganda of furries bring these evil satanic creatures, you really need to rethink your life goals.
@HotGoomba Wow, bro. That's like defending lolicon. Just because something isn't real, doesn't mean it's not going to affect people who view that stuff and continue to produce it, thus normalizing it for more people.
@russell-marlow I think you missed the part where both me and HotGoomba pointed out that furry art is not beastiality
@russell-marlow Man I'm done with you, you're really an ignorant person, not thinking about other people and their feelings. You're completely missing me and Spyke's points. You just are too blind to realize how disrespectful you're being. It's one thing to not like furry art, but it's another to just put all furries in on circle.
@russell-marlow WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN!? YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT.
this genius is really pissing me off, I'm gonna need to calm down after this. At least other people I argued with had good points and weren't attacking a whole damn community.
I'm a simple man, I just want games where I can be a bipedal lizard and vibe, that's all I really want
@HotGoomba Quick to the defense you two are, very knee-jerk reaction. Yet most people know how unfiltered the furry fandom is that they allow anything in no matter what, that's why the fandom attracts so many low-life weirdos that tend to put a bad light on them as a whole. Still you ask most people they will tend to want to avoid them. I'll say this, if this fandom didn't have so much past baggage when it comes to what most people use to associate with them as well as all the gross stuff, then we wouldn't be having this conversation nor would most people take issue with them in the first place but here we are.
@Spyke And there's nothing wrong with that, I'm just discussing a different topic.
@HotGoomba I'm having a normal argument here and you're the one who's getting bent out of shape for what exactly, an argument online? C'mon man, you can't be serious.
@russell-marlow Considering I am actually a furry, and have been for a whole decade, interact with furries, have visited furry sites, hang out in furry communities, and have followed trends in the fandom, I think if anyone out of the three of us knows anything about furries, it'd be me.
Which is also why I know you're full of crap and have no idea what you're talking about.
@russell-marlow I've done this song and dance several times. Furries aren't as bad as you think they are and any bad apples in the fandom are quickly pushed out. Furries have also donated to many animal hospitals, shelters, and charities, which is actually where most of the proceeds of furry conventions go to. And you'll probably find out that many of your favorite games and cartoons have furries as key members of the team given how many furries are good with computers, not to mention the obvious advantage of being good with art and animating.
The furry fandom is a very broad fandom and attracts people from all walks of life, so it isn't unusual for some weirdos to flock to it too, but the ratio isn't as big as you probably think it is.
I also want to point out that some of the nicest people I've ever talked to have been furries, while some of the absolute worst people I've interacted with have been anime fans and gamers.
@Spyke Also, the internet is a different landscape compared to where you've been in real life, stuff also happens elsewhere like that Rainfurrest event.
@Spyke Being good at art and animation isn't something that's exclusive to a fandom. It's something bronies would incessantly bring up whenever they talk about themselves but it doesn't make them unique exactly.
@russell-marlow I won't go into detail why because it'll just cause more of a problem and I'm just done with this conversation
@russell-marlow I never said it was exclusive, I said that they get hired because of it. Many furry artists are also artists for games, comics, cartoons, and even films, they just happen to do freelance on the side. One of the more popular furry artists recently revealed she was an environmental artist for the Halo games.
Also as the old joke goes, the difference between furries and bronies is most furries have jobs.
@HotGoomba You couldn't handle it in the first place, so why are you even bothering?
You're just going to throw insults at me to make yourself look better, a true mark of maturity.
@russell-marlow Honestly given how this conversation has been going it seems like you've been doing a good job of making HotGoomba look better just by continuing to not stop talking.
@Spyke I beg to differ, if this were a real life conversation, then I would keep getting interrupted and not refute everything you guys said.
@russell-marlow Given how you've been wrong at every point of this conversation it sounds like that's what would need to happen for any of this to actually get through to you.
@Spyke By your own biased logic...
@russell-marlow Are you seriously implying you've not been biased this entire time? Is that what you're saying?
@Spyke No, my own experience on the internet and elsewhere says otherwise. Bye.
@russell-marlow I can't believe it, you actually said something right for once. I'm so proud of you.
@russell-marlow no it's because you're being incredibly annoying and not putting yourself in your shoes, there I said it, you happy? Now leave me the hell alone, I have an actual life you know.
@Spyke Tried to get a "gotcha" moment out of me but, no, there are other people who have told me similar experiences but they kept getting berated by furries that dared criticize them.
@russell-marlow I suppose you are also anti Disney for daring to corrupt kids with furry art by depicting Robin Hood and Maid Marion to be an anthro couple.
What about Nintendo who dared to create a Trans anthro character in Birdo or who sexualised animals like Tiffany in Animal Crossing?
@KateGray They didn't stop LOL.
Look In my opinion, there are three kinds of furry's. 1. the one guy who just really likes animal's and Disney movie's. 2. The one guy who looks at the more lewd stuff of animal's but there not into it into it. 3. Then there are the one is suits, aaaaaaand I don't know what to to say to you or defend bc its kinda creepy.
And no I don't hate furry's, i'm in the sonic fandom so I meet alot of them, I just really like sonic, and i'm not a furry.
(Also there are the ones who like some animals but like the more human looking ones.) (This is just opinion btw, and i'm not stating this as fact, and you can think what you want to think about like me)
@Spyke Hmm you make me think.
@HotGoomba some pearl-clutching comment about how they’ll have to keep more of an eye on their kids around Nintendo products.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I don't think Birdo counts as anthro because they're a made up species, Nintendo didn't take something that already existed and give it human features and characteristics which is what anthropomorphism is.
@Tourtus fair enough, I've always looked at her as a duck which is why I included her lol.
@Snatcher there are also those who grew up in the late 80's and early 90's where pretty much every Saturday Morning cartoon had Anthro animals of some description and loves the artstyle as a result.
@DTFaux It's probably due to certain backlash within the furry community inadvertently hiding child predators. For every 9 nice people you meet, you will find that 1 person that makes the other 9 look bad. That could be why people are affronted by the furry community, plus it's hard for some people to see others wearing costumes. Not sure why that is, I've never tried. If anyone wants to chime in with something more feel free, that's all I have to say with my limited view on the matter.
@SpaceboyScreams that's...um...an interesting comment. Most furries don't sexualize animals, and the ones who do, don't really. It really goes too far if you're literally thinking about having sex or sexual contact with a real animal, dead or alive (haha see what I did there). Just my opinion, just don't, well, wish those kind of things on people, this may offend people with real sh*t going on in their lives.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Birdo is trans?
@BloodNinja I mean Birdo has a bow and acts feminine-like, but was referred to as male (I don't know if that's the case anymore) so I guess that's why people say Birdo is trans. I don't know if Birdo is a Trans Man (identifies as man) or a Trans Woman (Vise Versa).
@Mr-Fuggles777 This is true, should have brought that up LOL.
@BloodNinja you just have to not think about it to hard.
@Snatcher Not think about what too hard?
@HotGoomba I seem to remember an inconsistency in the game manuals, one stating that it's a boy and the other stating it's a girl. I'm referencing the NES manual and the All Stars manual, but it's been so many years since I've laid eyes on those I can't remember. I always figured stuff like that was just lost in translation or a typo.
@BloodNinja in the original manual for SMB2 it says that he thinks he's a girl.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Yeah, I seem to remember that and brushed it off as something lost in translation.
@KateGray @Mr-Fuggles777 I'm clearly missing something here. Apparently... there is a "furry community", and that community is guilty of horrendous things? ... And the game itself is perverted, despite no such implication in the video whatsoever (at least, that I could recognize)?
I'm not changing my avatar. There's nothing wrong with us furballs.
EDIT: So some people have strange sexual fantasies. Quelle surprise. Otherwise, I see a group of people that would typically be described as "eccentric" or "geeky". And people who post on Nintendo Life think they can look down on this?
@Northwind Thank you. And yes, I appreciated his satire too.
If they decide to come after you too - for being pink and rotund - I have your back.
I can never understand why people have such a visceral reaction to furries. But having said that, I really dislike this particular art style. The wide grinning mouths and mops of humanlike hair on top of the head look grotesque and off-putting to me.
I can play games with anthropomorphic animals any time (y'all might have heard of this one cult furry game called Starfox...) and I've got no problem with Khajit and the bunny girls in the Final Fantasy games, but this style just feels off-brand to me.
@BloodNinja Those aren't really the best justifications, to be honest...
For one, the gaming industry is no stranger to predators, going by some of the controversies from last year alone. Yet, we wouldn't stand for anyone trying to lump "gamers" in with the worst offenders, would we? The unfortunate reality is that fandoms that allow for a big tent, and no realistic vetting, are bound to attract a few unsavory folks. They need to do better to protect the vulnerable, but the many shouldn't be kicked around over the actions of a few.
Also, I can't deny that fur suiting is pretty niche when compared to other fandoms, but the reasons for suiting isn't really that different compared to someone cosplaying (or LARPing): People simply find fun in playing a role or character they're not normally. But shoot, there are also furries who don't care to suit up at all.
At the end of the day, "furry" is just another fandom whose baseline is "Has an affinity for non-human characters." But from there, there's an entire spectrum of interests that may even intersect with other fandoms/communities (a Pokemon fan could be a furry, a weeb, a gamer, or all three!). And you'd be surprised how many furries are walking among us; From character designers of AAA IPs, to IT specialists, to those who work bureaucracy/legal, to medical professionals, education, law enforcement, military, and at least one of them being a top ranking FGC player.
@BloodNinja Just on what he/she is bc I really have no idea myself.
@Snatcher Oh!! Gotcha! Sorry I went senile for a second, heh
@DTFaux I wasn’t offering the best. I was offering what I know. Feel free to agree or disagree. We aren’t cancelling each other out by doing so.
@BloodNinja My bad. Me saying "Those aren't the best" was more my fancier way of me saying that I disagreed.
The rest of my comment was me trying to give insight by both comparing furries to other fandoms (both the good and the bad), and coming from a place where I'm very certain I'm further in the weeds with that fandom than you are.
@DTFaux No worries
Lmao the comments are extra entertaining today
Little backstory on this game; its made by klace, the same guy who made major/minor, and literally censored every single bad review on steam by threatening to report their steam accounts.
Me and some buddies used to joke about klace all the time because he would pull a randy savage anytime somebody tried to interview him and all the positive comments are just whats left from the cleansing of his extremely underwhelming reviews.
I know nothing about winds of change, but if its anything like major / minor and klace didn't change his ways at all, its probs best to forget about it. Never thought i'd see the day major company outside steam would greenlight a game of his.. nintendo probs never checked his twitter account (don't... no seriously don't its not even ironically funny its just painful. Ask somebody you hate to do it for you.)
This comment section is garbage. Y'all need to get the ***** over yourselves. Furries aren't going anywhere, and this VN isn't hurting anyone. Stay mad and GTFO
@Spyke have you played Angels with Scaly Wings? It's also on Switch, and it's about dragons
@KateGray I have not played it but I've known about it since it came out on Steam, never got it because I wasn't a huge fan of the art style and if I'm playing a visual novel I really need to like the art style to be able to sit through it
@Spyke I played a bit of it on Steam, intending to write about it, but yeah - loooots of talking, even for a VN!
@KateGray My boyfriend really enjoyed it so I may change my mind if it ever drops to a good price. He did say it's surprisingly emotional in some parts so maybe the writing will be enough to keep me interested
@JasmineDragon In fact, people don't like them because most of them are bad.
@COVIDberry But most furries have these strange fetishes 😒
I find it funny that people who are "not into the furry life" are experts on it...
@RetroXombi And the actual furries are apparently "biased" according to those same people
Made an account just to say wow. Crazy amounts of furry hate over things that are either extremely exaggerated or entirely misinformed. Sad to see. Sure there are a small (and I mean small) amount of people who use the title furry to excuse some really horrid stuff. Other than that unfortunate group furries are largely fine or at worst you've got the occasional trolly dude or two. I forgot where I was going with this but basically: we aren't all that bad, and most people who think we are, are either uninformed or purposefully ignorant of the evidence showing the contrary
Lots of comments here made me though this might be some hidden gems I've never heard about. Turns out its just couple of ppl debating about furries lmaooo. Tht said im not a fan of the art style and also never a fan of graphic novel so its a no from me.
@russell-marlow
lolicon: person attracted to underage girls
furry: person fan of antho characters
great comparison :>
@64br13l "Most of them are bad" "Strange Fetishes" I think you sound more like a jerk than you realize.
@Kriven Oh ok thanks for the information.
@JaneBear
Yup, does anyone remember Conker's Bad Fur Day or the more recent releases by Nintendo like Skyrim, or the Witcher III which has a lot of swearing in it?
