If you've been following the drama surrounding publisher Dispatch Games, you'll be aware that the company doesn't have the best reputation right now. It has offered physical releases of cult Japanese Switch titles like Psyvariar Delta and Game Tengoku, but has failed when it comes to actually delivering the games to its customers.
Back in May 2020, we reported that Dispatch Games customers were getting jumpy about the lack of updates, and the firm blamed the delays on the Covid-19 pandemic. Then it went silent again and didn't issue another statement until the start of this year. "Expect updates regularly," it read. "We won't be going dark. We will work to earn your trust."
As you might imagine, that bold gesture has been followed by another period of silence. However, the saga has taken yet another turn with the news that Game Tengoku is apparently being prepared for a physical release in Europe.
As reported by Seafoamgaming, a PEGI rating for the game was filed two weeks ago. Why is this significant? Well, Dispatch Games' previous physical release (the one which still hasn't shipped to people who pre-ordered it almost two years ago) had a North American ESRB rating. While Game Tengoku did already get a release in Europe a while back, it was a digital one handled by City Connection, not Dispatch Games.
All of which leads us to suspect that Dispatch is planning to bring the game to Europe in physical form – but with the North American pre-orders still unfulfilled, it's easy to see why this has caused some consternation amongst the company's existing customer base.
Are you one of the people still waiting on Dispatch Games to ship you the titles you paid for many months ago? Let us know with a comment.

I don't understand why anyone would shell out for a physical release after it's been available digitally for so long. The major point of the Switch, for me, is portability, and having all these arcade games available instantly without any cart swapping. My physical collection is mainly first-party stuff.
The one title I did opt for physical - despite my instincts - was the Turrican Anthonogy, and I've since given in and rinsed the digital release before my carts have even shown up!
@SpringDivorce I'm the same, I prefer going digital so I've got my collection with me at all times, but I do get the appeal of having a nice physical copy on the shelf - and of course, there's the issue of games getting delisted and you no longer being able to download them. But yeah, on balance, digital is my preferred choice!
@SpringDivorce "The major point of the Switch, for me, is portability"
I've never used my Switch undocked. I try to buy physical as long as its comparable to the digital price to save space on the memory card.
Them digital games can be taken from you
I preordered this and Radigry the day they went live....nearly two years ago. Back in February they sent out another email saying we’re sorry and games will be releasing starting in March. Riiiiiiight. If by some miracle I get my games I will not deal with this company again.
@Orangezap89
So can these physical ones by the looks of it....
In fairness, I'm struggling to think of even one title I've purchased that I can no longer play. Although I really should fire up the 360 and confirm that all the non back-compat games are present and correct. Long as my Afterburner and Outrun 2 HD are still functioning, all is well.
Yup, Dispatch Games, the worst boutique publisher not named Warned Collectors.
Weren't these guys doing the Radirgy Swag release too? Did that ever see the light of day?
I totally missed this minireview when it was published. Didn't know about the game, not even in its original form. It turns out I'm bad at shmups, but I love cute'em ups, so not at its current price, really expensive for a digital release, but if it comes out physically, I'm totally buying it.
Got this digitally a good while ago, would have gotten it if it was available as physical then but I won't buy it twice. Fun game btw!
@SpringDivorce Are After Burner and Outrun still downloadable? I bought them on 360 and would love to play them again now...
@Damo
Last time I checked mine they were still there, I've never had a previously purchased title removed from my actual downloads as far as I'm aware.
I preordered Game Tengoku and Radirgy Swag in July 2019. Their Facebook page has blocked me and basically anyone else who demands to know wtf is happening.
@SpringDivorce I have to admit I haven't checked on a 360, only on an XB1 and Series X, so that's probably why I'm not seeing them
These days I tend to buy digital and if I decide I really like the game I'll then buy a physical copy to keep. I've done that most recently with the Blaster Master Zero games (well actually with most of the 2D games from Inti Creates!)
Sure it's not great that I'm double dipping like that, but at least I get to keep the physical copy in its shrink wrap! 😉
@Orangezap89 Name one, please. And platform it's on. I suspect it's PSN games that are culprits in doing this.
@Damo @SpringDivorce Rest assured, both Afterburner Climax and OutRun Online arcade are, while no longer purchaseable, up and running on my (NA) Xbox 360. I even recorded a new high score on OurRun Online Arcade, updated the leaderbord as well so we know that's working, and put it up on YouTube (not linking the vid for reasons, but you can say "I'm Done (for now)" hint, hint
@MontyCircus I find this confusing, the first thing I did on unboxing was turn on my switch!
Real question: is this hyperbole or have you literally never turned it on out of the dock? And if true, can I ask why not? Super curious.
These guys are crooked shysters.
@HIGHscores85 If you paid with Credit Card, you can get your money back.
I always pay for things Online with a Credit Card for extra protection.
@SpringDivorce having a future proof copy of a game and knowing that you actually own it is important for a lot of people. Also, it's just nice to have a physical copy of a game on your shelf.
Yeah I ordered Game Tengoku from Dispatch a long, long time ago. And of course I haven't seen anything come in the mail. I see Game Tengoku on the eshop and wonder what it's like, if I'd enjoy it, but I have no idea yet...
@jrt87 I've never seen a physical game go for 90 bucks when it's released. And anyone who cares about games as an artistic medium should also care about game preservation.
@shazbot "Real question: is this hyperbole or have you literally never turned it on out of the dock? And if true, can I ask why not? Super curious."
I've used it to access the eshop when the website was acting up. And when I first got it I've shown others "Look, now you can pause it and then clip on the controllers and take it out and play it portably" which is neat, but I'd rather play on the big screen.
I've never owned a Nintendo portable console. It's kind of like how everyone is now able to watch a movie on your phone...that's great but...why would anyone do that on purpose?
@masterLEON Looks like I need to get myself another 360!
@Damo Worth it, IMO. Especially since not 'every' game is BackCompat, as they want us to believe, nor should we expect our delisted games to ever get the BackCompat treatment. I'm planning to get a backup 360 myself.
@MontyCircus Got it. If it was a literal never, would have been fascinating, but understand handheld doesn't appeal to everyone. I dock at my computer monitor at home, but I'll always just carry in it in my bag and get some play time in on the train or bus, or before bed.
