Games are a huge part of the world of Nintendo — no argument there! — but the wonderful audio work and soundtracks from the software itself are just one part of the aural equation. The greatest Nintendo titles are accompanied by a hardware soundscape of mechanical clicks, thunks, ker-chunks, taps, spins, switch flips and the unmistakable sound of plastic gliding over plastic.
Well, Zion — one of our lovely video producers — decided to explore the wonderful world of Nintendo sounds in an audio-visual feast (above) showcasing some of the sounds most familiar to Nintendo fans. This is utterly iconic audio that you'll instantly recognise — sounds that weren't composed by Koji Kondo or the team of musical maestros at Nintendo HQ.
If you're a fan of ASMR (that's Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, or 'audio clips that give you goosebumps or make you feel a bit funny'), we think you'll find this most satisfying. And if not? Well, you'll get to gaze jealously upon Zion's retro collection — everyone's a winner! Nintendo itself has dabbled in the ASMR video game, of course, with its series of Sights & Sounds clips and various Pokémon videos, including thirty minutes of a Charmander sleeping by a log fire. We think its hardware sounds are even more exciting, though.
So, turn the lights down, grab some headphones, sit back and enjoy the aural pleasures of living the Nintendo life...
Gotta love some hardcore hardware fetishism. Let us know below if any of the sounds made you feel all peculiar — we're off to grab our noise-cancelling headphones for another listen...

I felt that right in the joy-cons.
Dude needs a haircut, pronto!
I get goosebumps with car tires going over gravel and book pages being turned.
This was hilarious.
"HELP ME" hahaha.
nicely done
I play Animal Crossing mainly for the ASMR part of it. The sound design in AC is unmatchable. I wish to see the list of sound files and their naming, let alone their programming.
Thanks for sharing this video.
I play Dark Souls mainly for the ASMR features.
Watching a grown man play with Dixie Kong in a mine cart. Nope. Not into that.
Weird...
Zion's zapper has a different sound to it than mine. My Zapper is louder but deeper.
What.....exactly am I watching here....?
ASMR is creepy. Especially the whispering ones.
@Zion, seem like you forgot to add one of blowing into the NES cartridge Used to hear/create that all the time!
Stop.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Agreed. I find it makes me very tense and anxious to listen to stuff like that. Maybe it's because I listen to TOO MUCH METAL
NINJA ROCKING OUT APPROVED
