Anyone who's been to university will probably remember their final projects as a time of huge stress and lots of book-reading, in a frantic attempt to prove whatever thesis you pitched several months beforehand. Turns out, we could have been studying Animal Crossing, like final-year Psychology student Sam Davern, who is doing his final study on the psychology of Animal Crossing: New Horizons players. That's you!
Specifically, Sam wants to know if there is a correlation between the behaviour of the players in-game and their personality types, and the way he's figuring that out is by having you put in your various Nook Miles achievements, and then doing a quick personality test. Maybe you're more into people than art, so do you have lots of Nook Miles achievements to do with visiting other islands, or befriending your villagers? I guess we won't know until the survey is done.
At the end of the survey, you'll get a detailed report on your personality and player type, which may give you some useful insights into how you interact with the world and with games.
It's a totally anonymous survey, of course, and it's even been approved by the UCC Ethics committee, so there's no need to worry about how your in-game stats might come back to haunt you. However, Sam points out that "there has been very little games psychology research outside of the usual "do video games make people more violent" and there has basically been no research on social simulation games," so if the study gets a load of participants, it may very well make it to a scientific journal. Exciting!
The survey is live right now at animalcrossingsurvey.com, and anyone who's interested can also opt-in at the end to enter a draw for a Switch game of your choice.

Sounds good to me.
Finished the survey. Probably not gonna win anyways.
@Northwind It says you can check your latest happy home academy score, so you could just check your mailbox for your last one
I finished the survey but as I am apparently not the doing-things-for-rewards type I haven't entered the prize draw.
The "Deep Dive" cap ammount is wrong, in-game is 2500, on the survey they put 5000
@kategray imagine months from now:
“And the winner is....name withheld due to the anonymous nature of the survey! If you think it was you, please let us know!”
(I know you opt in, but imagine it)
Thank you for participating.
The following are your results on the player type test:
Socialiser: 15 /35
Free Spirit: 22 /35
Achiever: 17 /35
Philanthropist: 21 /35
Player: 22 /35
Disruptor: 13 /35
The following are your results on the personality test:
Openness to Experience: 29 /50
Conscientiousness: 31 /45
Extraversion: 17 /40
Agreeableness: 32 /45
Neuroticism: 22 /40
Hmmm..interesting. <_<
@ares9090 Thanks for noticing that, I'll fix it now!
Taking the survey after work! It would be cool to have a follow up on the results from the author.
I'm going to take the survey later when I'm playing the game and can easily access all my stats
@theriku260 I'll see what I can do However I won't be able to publically release the results until Autumn but I'll look into ways to get them out to anyone who wants them.
I'll check it out after work. Should be fun to see what kind of player I am from a different perspectivee
@DK-Fan
I found the results pretty close. However, for Neurotism I got 40/40. Made me laugh. Due to PTSD, but still...I feel like I should wear a sign or something.
@daisygurl You do know that it specifies "any eshop game", not just Animal Crossing? I can think of a few games I'd like to pick up.
@daisygurl game of your choice though
If I played Animal Crossing I would complete the survey.
Every time I look at Animal Crossing and think that maybe fun to play. My next thought is always, "yes but it looks like a watered-down version of Stardew Valley. So why don't I just go back and play Stardew Valley again." And then I start a new playthrough Stardew Valley.
So if I do this survey, it's going to know I have no friends and a wicked meth addiction? Crazy
Yeah, I created an account just to post something sarcastic
lmao this is from my college, honestly we get some of the wildest surveys
