More people are more creeped-out by spiders than they'd ever admit, but some are merciful and release them outside when spotted. Others take a more bloodthirsty approach, using whatever's nearby to smit those eight-legged freaks. It's a rough deal for the species, and Casey Donnellan Games is tapping into our fears through Kill It With Fire.
Having launched on PC last August, it's now coming to Switch on March 4th, thanks to tinyBuild Games.
Here's an overview:
To defeat spiders you must exploit their one weakness: FIRE. Or bullets. Or explosions, throwing stars, gettin’ smushed by stuff...pretty much anything, really. But that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy - first you’ve gotta find the spiders. Use state-of-the-art arachnid tracking technology to pinpoint your quarry’s location among hundreds of potential hiding spots - then, torch everything and smash the spider with a frying pan after it runs out. It’s the only way to be sure.
The PC version currently holds a 68 Metascore, but user reviews have been more friendly, giving it an "overwhelmingly positive" score on Steam. Time will tell how it holds up on Switch, but if you're interested now, you can pre-order at a 20% discount for £10.79 / €11,99 / $11.99.

Uninterested in the game. Subheading however, hilarious.
Alternatively I could just go in my shed for free and play it with photorealistic graphics.
It looks like it would get old real fast.
Power fantasies of the Arachnaphobic
Seems interesting, I'll get it when it's half off or something.
I saw Vinny from Vinesauce stream this. I thought it was hilarious. Not for me though. Maybe if it ever goes on sale for just a couple bucks...
I used to be VERY arachnophobic, but I got desensitized (gradually), and now I catch and release spiders instead of killing them. I even encountered a Goliath birdeater at an expo! Spiders are so fascinating and important, if one can overcome their fear!
This game doesn’t interest me, though. Oh, well!
I'm fine with spiders but boy would I love to burn one with a flamethrower
Oh boy. Killing spiders with bombs. WHO NEEDS BROOMS? I'M SO GETTING THIS
I guess this is as close to Earth Defense Force as we're gonna get.
The subheading pulled me to the comment section. Hilariously clever
@CactusMan Mate, I can smell the mailman and plumber from here. You might want to dispose of them.
I wanna get this but it seems like after a few hours i'll get bored
@Lordplops pretty sure torching and frying-panning everything in your shed would come with consequences the game helps bail out on, though.
@MagicEmperor In my case trying to get rid of arachnophobia made it actually much worse.
In the end they concluded that trying to get rid of it will made it worse in my case... oh well I try to live with that issue.
I’ve got severe arachnophobia (seriously I had nightmares after tarantula island on animal crossing) but I recognize the importance of spiders and try to either catch and release or leave em alone. Scorpions however... yeah sorry blame Fallout. I want em dead, DEAD I tell you!
If it has motion controls this could be fun
They should do this in AR with Nintendo Labo or something (I don't know how either works).
I’m afraid of spiders... but I catch and release them.
I've already played ocarina of time, thank you
Is it just me, or would this work great in VR?
I live in the tropics. I keep the giant spiders alive because otherwise the house would overflow with giant cockroaches.
No, just, no. Months ago I had something larger than a wolf spider (3-4") sneak into my laundry. It somehow survived a wash cycle and looked pissed when I opened the lid. Every time I went to reach in to pull out clothing, that thing bull rushed my hand. I really don't want to relive that moment.
Decent idea. Not for me, though.
I loathe the idea for this game and ignorant humans who kill animals wantonly. I logged in just to say that. Don't buy this trash.
conflicted on whether to buy this or not
I don't like spiders either, but that's a stupid game with a very wrong message.
Seen too many black widows and brown recluses where I live. Had a scorpion infestation in my house a few months back. It was weird. They all get the squish as their final wish.
I used to think that jumping spiders were kinda cool until I ran into them in UnderMine.
This seems like a game that would work better in VR
This looks like the perfect game for my mom!
@Rayquaza2510 Sorry, I forgot to stress that I was speaking for myself, and I’m probably lucky. I mean, hey, you tried! And you’re certainly not a lesser person that you still have the fear/phobia. I commend you all the same! 😄
