UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 16th January, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still sitting pretty at the very top of the pile.
The game is now enjoying its third consecutive week at number one in the UK as Switch owners across the country jump in for the very first time. It's remained in the official rankings ever since its launch last March, and it's looking ever more likely that it'll stay in a charting position for the remainder of its debut year.
Animal Crossing isn't the only success for Nintendo this week, however; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains in second place for a second week running, and six of the top ten are Switch exclusives. Even Just Dance 2021, one of the few titles not exclusive to Nintendo's platform, still sold best on Switch this week.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
1 | 1 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
2 | 2 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
3 | 3 | Just Dance 2021 |
8 | 4 | Grand Theft Auto V |
7 | 5 | Minecraft (Switch) |
4 | 6 | FIFA 21 |
10 | 7 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War |
11 | 8 | Super Mario 3D All-Stars |
9 | 9 | New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe |
6 | 10 | Ring Fit Adventure |

Of course, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling like crazy... I'm still baffled by its success compared to other big AAA titles.
Why is minecraft selling well just for the switch?
Fifa is marked red to indicate a switch title. Is this the multi format total because according to ea, no one plays it on switch
@Timtomclap
family game, family console.
@BigE It's marked red to show that it has its own page on the website (as there's a Switch version). It'll be multi-format in the chart
@BigE
It includes the Switch version. If no one actually bought it for Switch then EA wouldn't even bother with the legacy editions.
EA gave up after one Fifa title on Wii U.
Another great week for Switch and I can't see this changing until Sony and Microsoft sort out their supply issues for their new consoles (hurry up Sony I wants my PS5!).
I hope Nintendo announces a strong line up of first party software soon to build on the current success.
Mario 3D World will fly off the shelves next month.
Go, Nintendo, go!
Tomorrow will be day 300 on my island, with some Nook miles for that. Besides missing a few days for a camping vacation in August, I have played every day. Now, I am slacking off, playing maybe 15 minutes a day. I have cleared a big chunk of my island, letting it go to weeds. And I am still enjoying the game.
I absolutely remember getting the switch in the first week of launching and wondering when an Animal Crossing game would arrive. Happily, the game did not disappoint.
This game deserves the sales and the accolades.
The charts nowadays sure are pretty much an alternate reality Wii U era where the Wii U was a gigantic success and the only popular game not on the Wii U doing well was GTAV (don't forget that back in the Wii U era, Wii U actually got CoD).
Considering 3 of the top 10 has Mario in the title, I think Super Mario 3D World will probably join the list as a long term member of the top 10 club when it releases.
Can you imagine GTA V being on switch.
The charts would explode!
@NathanTheAsian it’s newcomers to the Switch. If you are going to buy two games, it’s going to be AC followed by Mkd8 deluxe.
@TheFullAndy I am afraid they are just going to largely coast on ports and remasters. They have about a release every other month. 3D World, BOTW2, Zelda Remaster. My guess is that we get three new games tops. The only question is are they substantial or filler type games?
@rockodoodle New Pokemon Snap and BotW 2 aren't fillers. I'd expect at least three more small new games in addition to these two and maybe one other mid sized to big game.
would be nice if rockstar brings over gta5 to switch along with past entries.
@TheFullAndy Thanks! Have a great day!
@Timtomclap
You too bud!
Weird to see NSMBU DX suddenly rise up the sales charts into the Top 10.
Bodes well for the launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
Saw the charts and had to remind myself it's not long before 3D Allstars won't be available anymore. Might grab a collector's copy.
@westman98 That is odd, I thought people might go for Super Mario Maker 2 instead of NSMBU DX but it's not in the top 10.
@RiasGremory I would definitely love to see that, but there is one very scary issue that they would have to face: Storage.
Take-Two doesn't exactly have a good track record in terms of keeping the storage occupation low. Most of the ports I've seen tend to ask for microSD's, and GTA V would be the biggest of them all in that case unless they decided to port the original Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and work off of that.
Animal Crossing deserves.Is a great game.
If GTAV ever leaves the top 10, we know the apocalypse is on its way.
@BTB20 so my guess is that with what we know and have listed, we get two more surprise exclusives.
@Bizaster
Do you really think it is only the UK that has these games in their top 10?
Also this is the first time in years Just Dance has been this popular.
Aside from Japan what country's charts do you say would be much different from the UK?
@wazlon
NSMBU DX has been outselling Mario Maker 2 since late 2019.
@NathanTheAsian
It's not "selling like crazy" it's just evergreen. It's never going to stop selling at a pretty solid rate, so on weeks where no other big releases are out, it's always going to be on the chart.
Nintendo is the KING of evergreen games (I don't think any other developer really has one), which is why in the slow weeks they always dominate the charts.
