Update (Thu 15th Oct, 2020 09:05): This demo is now available across all regions - including North America. Enjoy!
Original article (Thu 15th Oct, 2020 03:55 BST): While there's no sign of the mainline Kingdom Hearts series showing up on the Switch anytime soon, next month Square Enix will at least be releasing its new rhythm-action game Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.
If you would like to try before you buy, now is the chance - as a demo has been uploaded to the Switch eShop in select regions (sorry, America - you'll just have to wait a little longer or alternatively access it from another eShop at the time of writing).
When the full game arrives, it will include over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters from the beloved and long-running series.
And if you are still wondering about the chances of the main Kingdom Hearts entries eventually coming to the Nintendo Switch, in an interview last month, series director Tetsuya Nomura said there were "no specific plans for more" Kingdom Hearts games on this system.
Will you be trying out this demo? Tell us below.

Ironic how Nintendo of America is saying it is out now, when it isn't actually out in North America. Might be a tweet scheduling error or something.
Reminder: This is not the Kingdom Hearts I wanted. And I'd be you 100 dollars that if asked - most people who wanted a KH game on Switch would have said a KH JRPG or maybe an action RPG or something. NOT a rhythm game.
Maybe this game will turn out great for the people who enjoy the genre or the really die hard fans who will play anything with the KH label. But I'm neither of those. I like the series because KH 1 and 2 as well as several of the spin offs were great RPGs.
Sadly, if this game does poorly, SE will probably say "Switch fans don't want a KH game - see, look at these poor sales!" Even though this game is a completely different genre.
I understand that KH 3 is probably too much for Switch. But they could have given us the PS360 versions of KH1 and 2. They could have given us several of the spinoff titles.
Who knows? Maybe that'll come down the road. Or perhaps we'll get the whole darn series on the rumored Switch Pro/2/DX/Mega Switch Prime MK. 7.
This game looks fun.... But with my backlog and just busy with college (especially since everything is online).... I'll probably get this game later next year, hopefully at a discount.
Sick Dearly Beloved remix on the title screen.
I wish the gameplay or graphics appealed to me, I play loads of rhythm games and I’m about as lapsed a KH fan as I am a Catholic, I might slag them off but you can’t deny they’ve both produced some bangers in their time. Actually, just give a hymn rhythm game (rhythymn?). All Things Bright And Beautiful (Donk Remix)? Ave Maria (Possilpark Diss)? Now that’s a game I’d play.
@Heavyarms55 I don't think a reminder is needed. This is literally what almost everyone has been saying about this game being on Switch, and it's literally no different than KH's past appearances on Nintendo platforms.
@nessisonett
<<Reverend Nessisonett, in effect on the pulpit>> : "Dearly beloved... let us start this sermon with a right banger... All Things Bright And Beautiful! HIT IT!!!" 😆
Please, Disney and Square Enix... put Gargoyles in KH someday. It fits like a glove.
Enough with all the mobile games being released on switch, far out id rather pay full price of a new game for a port of an actual 10-15+ year old game console game than waste money on mobile games. Oh I already have multiple times on remasters and ports and deluxe editions. And they're better by far than most new games anyway.
Not really for me this
I don't mind that the mainline games aren't coming to Switch, because Kingdom Hearts is corny and silly. Just keep giving us the Dragon Quest games.
The article says the demo is not available on America but the Nintendo of America tweet says it is. Confusing.
Why on earth would they release THIS and not a true Kingdom Hearts game on switch?! Seems like a slap in the face to Kingdom Hearts fans.
Will this game have the orchestrated theme from the first game in it?
REMINDER: Stop reminding me this exists.
I guess I'm in a minority here, but I'm actually looking forward to this. Played through the demo earlier and any doubts about how this game might play out were pretty much put to rest; in fact, this could be up there with Theatrhythm for my favourite rhythm game at the moment (though it obviously lacks the variety of music that comes from a series as varied as FF).
@Heavyarms55 this is exactly want I wanted
Gave it a shot, As I suspected it is very much Theathrythm with a Kingdom Hearts coat of paint, which isn't the worst thing in the world.
I'm not the biggest KH fan in the world (As in I really only like the first game) but the soundtrack in this series is undeniably solid (though still nothing compared to the FF offering in theatrhythm), I will probably buy this just so I can finally have a rhythm game on the system that has more than just a few tracks I enjoy.
@Heavyarms55
With the exception of Atlus, I can't think of a more tone-deaf company than Square. There was no demand for this game.
@OmegaDestroyer Atlus literally puts like 80-90% of their games either on Nintendo platforms or as Nintendo exclusives and you think they're tone deaf because they put ONE other series on another console. Jeez.
@Heavyarms55 i'm buying it on switch, not on ps4, soooo 🤷♂️
Anyone who wanted to play KH has already done so in other platforms. It's not the end of the world if the games arent on Switch, we got our fair number of exclusives (some permanent, some for a few years) on nintendo consoles throughout the last 20 years or so
Really wanted the HD Final Mix games
Put them all on Switch!!!
I hope they are not using this to test whether KH would be popular on Switch (and worth porting over). I absolutely suck at rhythm games, I always have, I just can not get the timing down. I tried the demo for this last night and as thought, I sucked at it - I lost halfway through, on an "easy" level. This is one game that I will not be buying.
I do love the KH games though, I have played every handheld game (all the games that came out for the DS and even the PSP one). If the actual KH game(s) were to be released for Switch, I would buy it / them in an instant.
This demo rules and I am now officially 100% excited for this. I didn’t know I needed a KH rhythm game, but now I’m glad I’m getting one.
