It's the spooky season once again, and that means Haunted Hallows is returning to Psyonix's Rocket League.
Charge up your Proton Packs, because this year sees the return of special Ghostbusters content. There'll be event challenges to complete - unlocking specific themed items, like Ghostbusters Wheels, a Slimer Topper, Mood Slime Boost and more.
There'll also be two limited-time modes - Haunted Heatseeker and Spike Rush. In addition to this, the Item Shop will feature even more Ghostbusters themed content such as the iconic Ecto-1. Psyonix also noted how other licensed cars would be returning to the Item Shop in the future.
Haunted Hallows starts later today and will run until 2nd November. The developer has also rolled out a new patch.
As a reminder, Rocket League is now free-to-play across all platforms - will you be participating in this year's Haunted Hallows event? Tell us down in the comments.

Wow. No comments.
Guess this article doesn't contain enough cats.
I'm joining this event.
I heard Rocket League is/going free to play, is the Switch port also going to be free to play?
@Tourtus it already is!
I already have most of these items... unless these differ slightly for whatever reason... but I'll probably still play a few matches. I loved the proton courses from last year, I hope that's the Heatseaker mode it's talking about.
no mention of how much these Ghostbuster themed skins will be......no doubt very expensive like many of the skins.
Love the game but hate the pricing of the add ons, luckily they are just cosmetic and don't add anything more.
Are they free?
Love the game, hate the matchmaking. I rage-quit the game for 2 years, came back this week hoping something would have changed... LITERALLY nothing has changed with matchmaking, instead they keep focussing on more cosmetics. Solo queing on casual always sets me up against a pro team who's already 5 goals ahead. I'm no pro, never gonna be pro, don't have the time, hence the queing for casual. It leaves me disappointed every darn time
So glad I got the Deloreon and the JP Jeep before they went away. So many people got the JP Jeep for the badass T Rex goal explosion
@SoapMonkey Honestly, you're better off queing for ranked. You won't get matched with pros nearly as much, and people don't ragequit as often because they get banned if they keep doing it. It's still not perfect but it's so much better. I was exactly the same as you, then ended up playing ranked by mistake (didn't notice I wasn't on casual anymore) and didn't look back. It's amazing how much you improve when you can actually complete games and don't start 5 goals down with AI teammates.
@SegaBlueSky Oohh that's a great tip man, I'm gonna try it out tonight thanks!
@Lynox Thanks!
@Scrubicius "There'll be event challenges to complete - unlocking specific themed items, like Ghostbusters Wheels, a Slimer Topper, Mood Slime Boost and more." "In addition to this, the Item Shop will feature even more Ghostbusters themed content such as the iconic Ecto-1."
To me, it sounds like some items can be unlocked for free by playing and others can be purchased.
@SegaBlueSky Good post, I have been playing for 3 years and totally agree with you.
Is there any sign of local co-op returning yet? That was pretty much the only way I played.
@SoapMonkey
It must be your region?
I’m in Oceana region and match making for casual and comp for me is excellent for all match types.
I have no idea on how to get items in this game! Also, I don't want to spend money on Rocket Points or whatever and I don't know how to unlock ranked mode.
@LatsaSpege Items are unlocked via the various challenges. Some are free, while others are only available with Rocket Pass or bought with points. Once you've unlocked an item it'll usually ask if you want to equip it immediately. If not you can just go to the garage later and equip any of your unlocked items there.
With the recent Fortnite challenges for example, you could unlock quite a few items for free, including the Battle Bus. They were pretty easy to get, and each challenge told you how to unlock the item and whether you needed Rocket Pass to do so.
I hope Netherworld boost comes to the Item Shop for real this time. I bought it there last week & used it for 3 hours only to find it removed from my inventory the next day. I like psyonix, but that was a cold blooded move.
I'm ready for haunted hallows since I missed the event in previous years.
@SoapMonkey Yeah, you want to play ranked for more balanced matches. Took me a while to figure that out. Ive got several hundred hours in RL, and casual matches still match me against very overpowered players and teams. Casual= random, mix of newbs, low rank, and very high rank experienced players.
@LatsaSpege You get items just by playing, as many of the challenges are things like 'center the ball xx times, have xx saves, xx clears, use the chat', etc. Most, not all, can come naturally the more you play. I've never spent anything and honestly I have way more items than I need.
Has anyone reached Diamond rank or higher on Switch Rocket League?
@Mr_Humpf unbelievable we are a month into this not being resolved. Most of us PAID for this function. Crazy it’s still not addressed.
@WoomyNNYes SAME!!! I thought it was a glitch. It still shows up in my inventory, but when I use it, I only get orange smoke.
@SoIDecidedTo I emailed psyonix when it happened. They said it was a mistake, removed Netherworld boost from inventory, and the 300 credits were given back. All my cars set to Netherworld boost had defaulted to standard boost(orange).
Good to know. Love me some Ghostbusters!
@Patendo Hey, don't know if you gave it a shot, but I played 10 games last night and got 7 of the items. This is MUCH easier than events in the past where you got about 10 to 14 candy (whatever it was) and then each item costs between 75 to 150 candy. This is pretty dope to me. I'll get the rest of the items tonight.
