Numskull Designs has announced a brand new steering wheel accessory for the Nintendo Switch that's set to launch next month.
Housing each Joy-Con on either side of the main unit, the wheel sticks to tables or other surfaces with suction cups on the bottom, ready for you to take it for a spin in games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Essentially, then, it's a fancier version of Nintendo's own Switch racing wheels that simply holds your controllers in place, rather than something that plugs into your console and works independently.
Here's an official description and some product images:
The finish on the steering wheel itself allows players to enjoy added grip while zipping through to victory. The suction cups underneath the unit allow this ergonomic and lightweight unit to be picked and placed elsewhere without having to through any complicated processes. Compliment your Nintendo Switch with this steering wheel and give yourself the competitive edge.
- Official Numskull product
- Designed and engineered by Numskull.
- Realistic design and resistance technology lets you steer like the real thing making it perfect for Mario Kart and other racing games
- Features durable suction cups for easy attachment to tables.
- Specially designed soft mounting brackets for Joy-Con controllers to prevent damage.
It retails for £14.99 / $14.99 /€15.99 and is available to pre-order as we speak. Delivery is estimated to arrive by October.
Alternatively, if you're looking for a more traditional racing wheel that connects directly to your console, you might also want to check out the officially licensed Mario Kart options from Hori.

laughs in Nintendo Labo Motorbike
Because steering controls are always good and not horrible at all.
I remember entire clearance aisle crates of these for various systems about a decade ago. Didn't they learn then that almost no one wants these?
Don't really care about this big piece of plastic, still setting my sights on one of the Hori Mario Steering Wheels
My kids would love to play Mario Kart with something like this. We have the little "floating" wheel shells but they're just as happy holding a pro controller as the steering wheel. Something like this might be a little more fun and the price is right.
But are there a levers for having a saw come out the side of your car, wiper blades, and changing the radio station?
You all mock Labo but the vehicle kit car steering wheel is fairly impressive. Sub and plane get the job done but that's about it, car is the star, until you need to fill up the petrol tank. 😝
This is just a big hunk o plastic far as I can tell.
My father might like this. He's really into racing games.
Believe me, still, Hori Pro Deluxe Steering Wheel is the best way to play Mario Kart 8 deluxe... with pedals, and 3 kinds of sensitivities... you already knew this if you own one.
Hmm seem like a nice waste of momey
Meh the fact that it requires joycons attach means it's really $85. At this price point you may as well just get one of the two Hori steering wheel set instead.
Cool for a little bit but too much.
@GilbertXI The Hori wheel would be better if he is really into racing games but it costs a lot more.
@Andigaming I'll check it out, thanks.
When using the previous wheels, I have often been thinking: "You know, individual Joy-Cons are pretty small. Why can't we have frames for Joy-Con pairs or Pro Controllers?" Looks like my dream has come true!
Does the wheel come off though? I don't have a table at my sofa...
@Retro_Player_77
Well, you need a Switch as well. And a racing game. And a house so that you can charge the Switch. So that's hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Perfect for a game that came out 6 years ago on a previous console 👍
How many racing games on the Switch support motion controls? Genuine question I'm asking here firat without delving into the research myself
@KevTastic84 It's only a minority of games that supports motion controls.
@XBontendo Unless you buy a wheel with force feedback and at least 180 degree rotation, yeah, a steering without those is pointless. But again, you don't need this for Switch racing games, unless maybe you want to play Grid Autopsport, closest thing to a sim you can get.
@Ooyah You don't need a house to charge a Switch as long as you go to a place that had powers and WiFi you could game just fine but yeah you do need the Switch to play.
has it got pedals? it will be difficult to use it withouth foot pedals.
