A Limited Edition Fortnite Nintendo Switch Bundle Has Been Announced For Europe

Gross, why Fortnite. Why not a sweet luigis mansion one with vibrant green joycons or somehting?

I hope this isn’t the only bundle Nintendo does this year, especially as they have 2 big releases in the Mario and Zelda franchises. This one looks kinda meh but then, I’m not a a Fortnite player.

It makes sense that the most downloaded game is turned into a bundle for Switch.

However, lots of other bundles also make sense and it is baffling that Nintendo hasn’t capitalised on that more.

@Kienda There's always a risk of flooding the market with too many custom Switch. This one makes sense for this part of the world, the same way as much as I liked it a Dragon Quest version isn't going to be a hit outside of Japan.

Of the less limited edition Switch's that exist I certainly did not expect Fortnite to be the next.
For that matter Mario does not even have a custom dock or console.
Although I do not play any Fortnite anymore, I got to say that it looks pretty good.

I like this just for the joy con alone. And fortnite is a great game we play a lot too... Is this the "newer" model switch?

I'm no Fortnite fan but that actually looks quite nice, a lot better than the Pokemon one for sure. The Animal Crossing Switch is still the best I've seen

Well now that they're off the Apple store, they've got to make up for that lost revenue somehow.

It actually looks pretty nice and I like the colours. Weirdly the pictures make the left con look orange from the front but yellow from the back. Very odd.

@Kiz3000 No, there was a pair released with Smash that had the Smash logo on, but the design on this one ~is~ a bit more detailed.

@Kiz3000 the disney tsum tsum edition had already mickey's ears on front of right joycon as well as pattern all over.

Not for me as I don't play Fortnite, but I have no doubt that this will sell like hotcakes! I'm actually amazed it has taken this long to be honest!

I have no interest in Fortnight, but they have done this well and the JoyCon colours are great. The idea of owning a console branded with a game that won't be playable on it down the line when the servers have shut down seems weird to me though. But then, I guess the people buying this will have dumped their Switch in an attic by the time the servers are shutdown.

I don't like Fortnite at all (absolutely hate it, in fact) but I'll be damned if that isn't a sweet design.

I feel sorry for those people who feel the need to own every variant of joy con.

I have absolutely no problem with the colors or the fact that it's Fortnite themed. Not every damn thing is about me. Reality, folks. I'm not huge on Fortnite myself, but many are.

What does bother me is that this is just more scalper heaven when there's already a dirtbag scalper issue with Switches. And there's an existing Switch supply issue. Why are resources being thrown into special editions when the average gamer/family can't even get a regular Switch for retail $$$. It's all kind of obnoxious.

I like the colour scheme and just in time for Xmas. Fortnite has been brilliant this year. I gotta stop playing my SNES and do some leveling though.

Slightly off topic but does Nintendo take a cut of the online purchases in Fortnite on the Switch or is this just Nintendo letting them keep all the money just so that they can say, "Fortnite is available on the Switch".

@syrupdash Nintendo absolutely takes a cut from everything sold on the eshop including fortnite. My guess is they take a smaller cut than google and apple do (30%) and hence why epic don’t seem to have a problem with Nintendo...

Maybe, Archius9, Fortnite is a massive game that could shift units, with millions of players consistently for the last, like, 4 years.

That's what they need, a "MUM, LOOK" item. And, especially after a year of being released, I can't imagine anyone saying that to a Luigi's Mansion themed Switch.

Not a fan myself but my two older kids play it on the PS4. One of my nephews plays it on the Switch.

Im not a huge fan of Fortnite (my kids are) but this is actually pretty damn nice.

Still hope we eventually get a Zelda edition. We at least got a Pokemon Switch Lite & Mario & Luigi themed joy-cons. Zelda gas got zero love. Maybe the give us BotW2 & Zelda themed Switch when the “Switch 2/Pro/4K-ready” version comes out?

Side note: The best themed Switch/Bundle is the Dragon Quest one. Absolutely beautiful 😍

Yeah, the thought of purchasing a console branded with a game that will cease to exist eventually just seems odd. However, they will most likely make lots of money I am sure doing this.

Clever Nintendo, with Fortnite blocked on iOS and removed from Google Play store people will be looking for a cheap Fortnite machine. Series S requires Xbox Live Gold to play FTP games (like Fortnite) so Switch is the cheapest Fortnite machine.

It says Fortnite is pre-installed, but the game is already free to play so... this is the stupidest bundle ever! Atleast bundle it with a physical copy so it be somewhat worth buying, what a rip off!

@LilMuku, nothing against those who truly enjoy the game. My experience, through my son's friends and acquaintances, has seen some kids literally pour hundreds of dollars into this game, buying all sorts of skins and other in-game purchases. I've also heard of instances where kids are bullying one another over how much swag they've accumulated.

The problems with Fortnite aren't Fortnite specific.
Bullying for not having certain popular/expensive ones? Literally any toy craze, and clothing brands too
Expensive to maintain an interest in? Literally anything collectable, like Thomas & Friends, Pokemon cards, LEGO, the physical Fortnite toys, toy cars etc
By your logic, All toys, clothes and hobbies are bad. Which is basically nearly every single thing a child shows an interest in

I have almost all of them except the grey pair (which I don't want), the Smash pair (which are grey with lines), the Tsum Tsum console pair (I already have the Joy-Con colours; the Tsum Tsum variants just have patterns/logos on them), the Dragon Quest pair (I already have a plain blue Joy-Con, though I'm not sure if the Fortnite bundle is the same shade as the one I already have). I can't recall any other non-exclusive variants (such as the Labo pair).

I'm not fussed about the ones I'm missing, though this bundle is tempting for the custom dock and Joy-Con (to complement my Right Pikachu Yellow and Left Blue Joy-Con). If I do end up buying this, I'll likely sell everything else as I don't need any more Switch consoles.

Put a bunch of sticker type things all over the case. It's a special edition. I do like the controller colors but those decals just make it look like they would be Nintendo characters...and they're not.

Bad move of Nintendo to partner with such a volatile company, these guys would try throwing Nintendo under the bus with a premeditated PR attack that tries weaponizing children against them because they won’t allow Epic to bypass guidelines.

They really don’t know the PR nightmare on their hands if and when Fortnite gets massively exposed for it’s practices like loot boxes were. When Epic sees the headlines about kids being bullied because they don’t have the latest dance emote or whatever they clap.

The cut is 30% which is standard, Epic just uses that as a smokescreen as their actual intentions are murky or else they would be attacking the entire entire gaming/retail industry, they seem to have a active interest in trying to undermine iOS and not just Steam but PC gaming in general, Epic’s store exclusives have hurt the sales of those games and lead to privacy or simply getting the games on consoles instead which is very unhealthy in maintaining the PC as a viable platform. If Epic’s goal really is to sabotage PC gaming it’s no surprise why they’ll never attack the big three of console gaming.

@Madder128 If you can judge it purely on it's design as a game, not the way it's monetized, I absolutely see the appeal for kids. It's got all the pop culture, lots of silly action, humor and creativity.

But the way it is monetized means it's free to get hooked and pay far far far more than you ever would, with a traditional "premium" game. You can spend literally thousands of dollars and never unlock everything. And it's heavily marketed at children too young to understand the value of the money they are spending or want to spend.

The marketing is evil genius. It's on everything from YouTube to cereal boxes and back again. Anywhere a kid might see it, it's there. With comics, movies, YouTube celebrities, toys, merchandise and more.

@Madder128 Well the game play itself isn't gambling really. But the way you unlock stuff is almost all based around microtransactions. Even the things you can get via level up, you can pay to unlock faster. And everything is an unlock, skins, dances, emotes, gliders etc.

@brickmason61696 The Mario switch did not have a custom console or dock if I remember correctly. It only had those limited red joycons. Therefore I said custom dock or console instead of bundle.

Makes sense from a business perspective, but this continued normalisation of microtransaction-reliant games isn't what I like to see. Appreciate I'm in the minority, but I haven't played Fortnite and don't intend to. Gave up on freemium games a long time ago.

@Archius9 Because this game is mega popular and all the Apple mobile users are locked out of the new seasons, because of the ongoing lawsuit between Apple and Epic, might be looking for a new "mobile" place to play. Nintendo is hoping this will help steal kids over to a "mobile" version via the Switch. However, what makes this gross, and this comes from a dude who played Fortnite on Switch for 1250 hrs...the game has gotten increasingly worse on the platform and is BARELY worth playing on there now. Frames regularly dropping to 17fps, builds not coming out when they should, etc.

I despise Fortnite and its fanbase. Wish it would frakkin’ disappear already.

@Heavyarms55 If one can manage the attraction of all the custom skins and accessories...it's an amazing game for free (the experience on Switch is dreadful though). Battle Passes are only 7 or 8 bucks now and last a few months with tons of content in them (look at the current Marvel themed battlepass, like just a TON of good skins). I don't mind dropping money into the game since the game itself holds my interest more than anything else does, beyond 20 or 30 hrs like most games I end up dropping. All that money getting dropped in the game gives us constant refreshes and new content. I'd DIE for some sort of microtransactions or battle pass for Splatoon2 so that game wouldn't have dried up or lost my interest. But after awhile it just felt like the same thing over and over with no new gear as well. Really sad, because that game was my jam for a quite awhile.

@Jakiboy fortnite has been downloaded millions of times and it's one of the most profitable games of all time with a massive fan base. It would make sense that a character from the series would be in smash. I'm not a smash fan, but I find it odd that so many of you are complaining about the characters... Like, almost every single dlc character makes someone upset. Aren't all of the characters what makes the game fun?

@Jakiboy Pretty sure Steve means Fortnite isn't happening because Steve covers a similar target audience (in fact, probably a greater one given many people who grew up with Minecraft are older while Fortnite's audience is still on the younger end) - and Nintendo never adds a new third-party series that isn't firmly established to Smash with a character. There is only one Minecraft, but there are spinoffs and it's been around since 2009. Fortnite is essentially just the one game right now

Not being able to wrap my head around Fortnite was the moment I realized I'm old and not with it. You kids stay off my lawn and leave me and my Resident Evils and Lunar Silver Stars alone.

@Dang69 Proper V.R, I use an Oculus Quest, is an adjustment that your head and body makes. When you first begin some things will definitely make you a bit giddy. I've been playing for about four months now and i can do anything, it just comes. Some people are good to go from day one. I absolutely 1000000% recommend it and the new Quest 2 is super cheap and powerful. if you remember what it was like playing older consoles when the new one launched and you were like "WOAHHH" V.R is exactly that, it's futuristic.

@Enigk I hated Fortnite when it first came out. I remember telling people "it feels like you're walking across town for a half hours, then you see someone and you die or they do." For me the "reboot van" feature made the game more appealing. Then, I dunno, one day in 2019 I wanted to shoot something in a game, heard about the Batman event, gave it another shot and fell in love. I've played it almost everyday since Sept 2019, recently moving onto Ps4 with it for the added frames. To your Splatoon question, not JUST new outfits, just....new something. Bringing back the Splatfests definitely helps, but given HOW STRONG that community is or was, it is just a shame they stopped adding anything to it. Fortnite is always adding stuff and refreshing stuff, and adding and removing things to change the meta. I don't expect that for free either. A battlepass with some rewards, challenges you unlock in matches, maybe limited timed weather effects on maps, new maps, remixed maps, a lite storyline, anything.

@PikaPhantom Fortnite also hasn't been around as long as Minecraft. Even if Minecraft stopped being payed entirely tomorrow, it has left a legacy. Fortnite is heading there. I'd love to see the Fortnite building and shooting mechanics reworked for Smash tho.
