A few months ago, Paramount Pictures announced it was developing a sequel to the live-action family comedy, Sonic the Hedgehog. Once again, Jeff Fowler will be directing it, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be writing the script.
Although the movie is still believed to be in the early development phases - according to Variety, Paramount has now gone ahead and locked in an official release date. Despite the coronavirus pandemic currently sweeping the globe, the film studio is confident it can get Sonic's movie sequel out the door by 8th April 2022.
As previously mentioned, a sequel is no surprise after the film's ending. It also managed to bank close to $210 million in just 10 days - outpacing Detective Pikachu in box office earnings. Are you ready for Sonic's second big screen outing? Tell us below.

I knew the movie will have a sequel judging from the appearance of Tails and bald Robotnik at the end of the movie.
I watched the movie two times right before my country Indonesia got infected by Covid19 virus.
That sounds great, I am legit hyped for it! Hopefully COVID19 is long gone by then cause i ain't going to no movie theater if that's still an issue by then...

Seems too fast, IMO. Holiday 2022 would be the better pick - not only would it give the cast and crew some breathing room, BUT they'd have the time to give Sonic's world the proper, big-screen effort it deserves.
(Or at the very least have more and/or more impressive action scenes. For a movie from the guys behind F&F about one of gaming's most infamous action games... there was surprisingly little action in this last one.)
@TG16_IS_BAE Why? Because the first one didn't meet your expectations? (It's loads better than what the hacks at Sonic Team could've come up with.) Because the fanbase is full of creeps and weirdos? (Mainly because... most fanbases are?) Or because you don't view it as "artsy" enough for the big screen? (Neither is Star Wars, when you think about... it's just cowboys v. Nazis IN SPACE!)
That feels overly ambitious. I suppose they could shave off a lot of time since they already have the design work done and can just reuse it from the first movie. That doesn't feel like enough time for the writing/filming/editing though. I'll not be surprised if it get's pushed back some. They certainly earned having a sequel, hopefully they make the most of it.

Great - loved the first one except for Jim Carrey
This movie and its sequels never needed to exist.

I disagree, he was nothing like German - he played the character as any other Jim Carrey character. The rest - especially Sonic - was enjoyable

@RareFan averagely entertaining is the best one can hope from videogame film adaptations AND Sonic games these days I'm afraid. Unless we are talking Christian Whitehead of course 😁
How and why are they filming this during the pandemic? Are they gonna be wearing masks in the film? If so, then this will not age well.
The first one was great, lots of fun, and Jim Carrey was great as Robotnik!

The original movie was so intolerably awful, i recommend avoiding any possible viewing of this sequel.
I know its a movie for kids, but, kids movies dont need to be this lazy and mind-numbing. See pixar for more information.
