Nintendo has shared a list of the top 15 most-downloaded Switch eShop games of June 2020 in Europe, and you won't be surprised to learn that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has once again returned to top spot.
The game managed to earn itself a place just ahead of Minecraft Dungeons, while Nintendo's new release 51 Worldwide Games has debuted in third.
You can check out the full list below. It's based on the number of Nintendo eShop downloads (so no physical sales) in European territories during the whole month:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Minecraft Dungeons
- 51 Worldwide Games
- Minecraft
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Pokémon Sword
- Star Wars Episode I: Racer
- SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated
- Cuphead
- Stardew Valley
- Super Mario Party
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
- Super Mario Odyssey
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
We also recently shared our June 2020 edition of the Nintendo Life eShop Selects - our list of the very best eShop games that launched last month.
Did you download any of these titles on Switch last month? Any surprises in the top 15? Tell us below.

Looks about right. Can't say that anything in that list particularly surprises me.
Seems par for the course. I was sort of hoping for Ep1: Racer to be higher, but then again, it is practically a straight port. Would of loved some new tracks and graphical improvements other than the filter, but ehh. It is still good.
Still shocking me that a game like Mario Party has never received a single DLC update.
It sold more than 10 million copies and Nintendo couldn't care less about it.
So much potential and room for improvement on that game.
Haven’t even read the article yet and I KNOW animal crossing is still on top. That game is immortal lol
@tourjeff I agree. More boards, or more characters, Music, at least? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That’s why I stopped playing cause it just got boring playing the same thing over. And over. And over.
@tourjeff Honestly I'd kinda prefer them to just abandon it and develop a new Mario Party that doesn't kind of suck. Low chance of that happening though, good Mario Party games are probably just a thing of the past. At least it's better than 9 and 10.
Anyone here that would particularly recommend Minecraft Dungeons?
Not the best top ten one can imagine, specially since many awesome games came out recently, like Bioshock, Borderlands or XCom, and they are nowhere to be seen. But oh well, I hope this doesn't discourage third parties from supporting the the console with big enough titles. It'd be a pity, but seeing this, it's something I think we all could understand.
@brunojenso for a low price, yes. It's a pretty decent and fun game, but I wouldn't pay more than 10€ for that hehe.
I played of PC, though. I don't know how the Switch port look and run.
My Switch is the first console I've owned where I've gone totally digital. About 90% on Xbox and I'm more than happy this way.
Hm, no Duke Nukem. I mean, for 5 bucks it’s a freaking steal. Lot of content and good port. Just buy it.
@the_beaver that was indeed what I was thinking too. I bought all 3 and had a very good time (except bioshock 3). I was hoping these would sell very well so developers would release more nice Xbox 360 generation ports.
Is Shield included with sword or is noone buying it:0
@Apportal_SMM2 exactly!
I'd be happy with a few more boards and mini games.
Heck, even if they brought back some classic boards and mini games it would be better than nothing.
By now, I think, the momentum for DLC has passed and they won't invest in this game anymore.
I've learned my lesson, however, and won't buy this sort of games as soon as they are released. I'll wait and see how it goes...
@BenAV this one for me was quite alright.
The main issue is the lack of content really.
I feel that it is not a complete game, you know?
In my view, what makes a Mario Party game are the boards and mini games.
This Switch version is lacking on both fronts.
No Duke Nukem?! It’s been right at the top for a while now on the eShop!
@tourjeff I never got to the point that the lack of content became a problem because the content that's already there just wasn't enjoyable enough for me to keep me playing. The mini-games are mostly fine but there's a lot of design choices with the board part of the game that completely ruins it for me.
Minecraft and Stardew Valley are some of the few non-Nintendo games that is almost always in the top 15. The only times I haven't seen them on the list are during months with major discounts or launches.
What a waste of a #15 spot. I truly hope this is the last NSMB game ever released.
I've never understood the love for Mario Party. Just a bunch of button mashing. Never have found it fun.
Then again, I also don't get Animal Crossing, Pokemon or NSMB.
@dewokkel @the_beaver There has been mixed results when it comes to 3rd party support on the Switch, and while I can understand people not picking up something like The Outer Worlds, ports of Borderlands, Bioshock, and Duke Nukem have been excellently handled, and reasonably priced (i.e as cheap as the xbox and PS versions).
I understand this is just a digital list (though you might as well buy digital with these games anyway) but if Publishers turn round and say that their games don't sell enough on Nintendo platforms to continue to support the Switch as next gen comes round, Switch owners won't even be able to argue otherwise.
@Richnj @dewokkel @the_beaver Nintendo first party exclusives are always going to outsell third party games on their consoles sans Minecraft and FIFA.
I've heard titles like Ori, Cuphead, Bloodstaind and Witcher 3 have sold very well on the Switch. 2K so far I heard is "pleased" with the results of Bioshock, Borderlands and XCOM games on the console. Outer Worlds I know has gotten a ton of criticism, but I picked it up, played it, beat it and loved it. It's still a very playable game even with the downgrades. Now I'm playing Burnout Paradise, which is awesome and Duke Nukem, which is the video game equivalent of a popcorn flick.
I'm one of the few who actually likes the Switch more for playing mature titles both on my TV and handheld than for the Pokemon or Animal Crossing games. Loved Mario Odyssey and BOTW, and looking forward to Metroid games when they arrive, but I also hope the strong third party support continues. It's the best Nintendo has had since the Super Nintendo.
@kingbk you’re not the only one. I also like to play games like Burnout and bioshock etc. I’ll buy every port because I hope they will keep putting them on switch. There’s al lot of games from the Xbox 360 era I would love to see on switch. They usually run pretty well and I think there’s a lot of people that are interested in those games. I have a fairly good pc, but playing handheld beats sitting behind my desk.
@BenAV yeah I kind of know what you mean. It's missing a 'spark' that the previous games had.
I played it and opened the mini games but didn't even bother to get the extra characters. Just got bored.
@dewokkel Nice. I quit gaming for a while after the PS2. My gf (now wife) had a Wii at her place, so I played that occasionally. I won a Wii U at a work holiday party, so I got a couple of games for it. I thought it was fun, but didn't love it like I did the NES, SNES or PS2. The Switch made me fall back in love with gaming again. It's now my favorite console of all time. A lot of these older ports people complain about, I'm playing them for the first time and find them so much fun. Playing them anytime, anywhere is icing on the cake.
@kingbk cool. I’m playing a lot of them for the first time too. I’ve had every Nintendo console ever made, but the switch is by far the best one. I just like to play handheld on the couch so I still can sit next to my girlfriend and have a chat now and then. When you play console or pc you’re just a bit more isolated I guess.
@tourjeff I agree so much. It seemed like they were planning to as well. I wonder if something happened with the development team behind the scenes.
@ryancraddock important to note this does not include sales of titles that were purchased while discounted, which explains the absence of Duke Nukem as it was only £3.99 if you pre-purchased. I think this is the first monthly chart like this?
So now we know most with a Switch did not care about all those overpriced old games - Digital or Physical (Called it ages ago)
Vocal minority defending and asking for games nobody actually buys in large numbers. That always ends well.
Windwaker would have cracked the top 5 if Nintendo would pull Thier heads out of thier @$$€$!!
@brunojenso yes it’s pretty cool, when you get it maybe we can link up?
@tourjeff what you mean Mario Party???
Man MARIO Kart should be getting a DLC at least ones a year!
@Scrubicius Mário Kart should get a new entry at this stage.
So that's what mediocre looks like
@Scrubicius That'd be cool
