If you're craving a fresh take on the Mario Strikers franchise - can you believe that Nintendo only ever released two Strikers games? - then you'll want to keep an eye on Offside Legends.
This new game from indie developer Team Serpico is a fantasy-themed soccer-party game inspired by Mario's very own footie outings. It's hoping to launch on Switch and other platforms in 2021, and a new Kickstarter campaign has gone live to cover the production and development costs necessary to see it over the goal line.
As you might expect, this isn't your traditional FIFA-like experience. Instead, you should expect teams made up of characters like King Arthur, Count Dracula, and Sherlock Holmes, pitches based on quirky locations like Alice in Wonderland's chessboard, and all sorts of distractions like lightning and even flamingos. You can get a decent taste of the crazy action in the trailer above.
Here's a feature list:
Features
- Fast-paced, fantasy-themed soccer-party game
- Teams based in fantasy characters such as King Arthur, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland...
- Inspired by Mario Strikers Charged
- New gameplay mechanics
- Coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC in 2021
If you're intrigued, make sure to visit the Kickstarter page to learn more and pledge your support. The campaign's hoping to generate $30,000 and still has 29 days to do just that.

Not interested enough to support it on Kickstarter but if it's good I might buy it. I really just want Nintendo to make a new Mario Strikers game instead though.
Are you sure that's King Arthur, and not Arthas from Warcraft?
Graphically it looks pretty much the same huh. Like some kind of complete mod
@TechaNinja maybe someday people bring Mario characters as a mod for this game)
give me a new sega soccer slam from the gamecube!
There is no sound on the current demo build, but it truly plays like Mario Strikers. I look forward to it.
I'm intruiged
I'd love a mario soccer, be a day 1 purchase. This looks like a clone but lacking the chaos and intensity.
Reminds me of SEGA Soccer Slam on the XBOX, but not as good.... sadly.
I would love a fun arcadey soccer game.
The visuals on this just look too dark and blurry....
You need a more cel shaded and bright look..
This isn't Mega Man Soccer.
Begone!
Indie developers are giving us titles we've longed for: Strikers (this game) and TYD (Bug Fables). I would hope this is some sort of signal to Nintendo.
Whoah! There are no releases for PS4 or Xbox One! The companies must be asking developers to push for the newer systems so that people can buy them. I wonder how many games will start doing that?
@MysteryCupofJoe Although the article states ps5 and Xbox X only, I clicked the campaign and see the logo for Ps4, so may wanna check that.
@Jayofmaya Thanks. I feel that current consoles still have a long life. The five year life span is ridiculous.
@skycargav2000 totally agreed and bring back the commentary. It was miles better than PES or FIFA
@MysteryCupofJoe It will be an almost seven year gap when the PS5 arrives........that is a very very long lifespan in technology terms.
How long do you think we should have between generations?
I'm pretty sure RDR2 wouldn't play well on an Atari 2600
I don't mind past generations, I mean now. How do you feel about the PS4? I feel that it can totally run that Ratchet and Clank game. It can even handle a new Horizons game.
This looks quite good, don't know why Nintendo haven't made a sequel yet.
The creators have already cancelled the Kickstarter after one day. It appears they did not generate the KPIs they were hoping to generate early on despite having such a modest goal. Their efforts can still be followed through their Discord server, which can be found on the Kickstarter page.
@X68000 They should be supported for at least a couple years after the next console is released. We should have a 10 year life span including post next gen launch. At least, that's what I think. The ps2 saw support for ages after the ps3 launch.
