Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander developer Massive Damage Games has just shown off a new animated trailer for its "hard-as-heck roguelite" Star Renegades, which is headed to Nintendo Switch this year, with Raw Fury handling publishing duties.
Described as a turn-based strategy title inspired by classic JRPGs, Star Renegades sees you lead your team of rebel warriors against the robotic evil of The Imperium. The relationship between each team member is of vital importance, as it allows you to unlock more potent attacks and even romantic connections.
The new trailer is focused on the tragic backstory of one of the game's protagonists, Wynn Syphex.

The art style looks nice. I'm always down for a good roguelite so I'll check this out closer to release.
Ohh, will keep my eyes open for this one!
This looks very good, definitely interested.
If the gameplay is as good as this presentation, it is a must have!
I will keep an eye on this one.
Love what I see but want to see more.
So it's a turn based strategy JRPG Rogue-lite... got it. Shame... I was hoping for a turn based strategy JRPG Rogue-lite Metroidvania sim.
Intrigued. Nice!
Man, these games have to stop looking so good. I have a limited amount of money and time and this backlog isn’t getting any smaller lol.
Looks cool!
Would love a physical release.
How to ruin a game concept in one word... I'll take 'rogue-' for $100, Alex.
Shame, everything else about the game looks and sounds great but the whole rogue-like, rogue-lite or whatever aspect is just a way to arbitrarily create replay value with punishing difficulty and progress-wipe upon death. I'm getting tired of it.
Super hard and Rogue Like....two words that equal hard pass. I guess there is an audience for this but it seems like a good way to limit your sales. Not sure how Indie games are going to survive on this rogue like stuff and then having games so hard they just aren't fun. It's a bad trend that I think turns off the majority of players. There are so many good games to play so why bother with these? Interesting that so many devs make their games this way now too. Ah well.
10000000000000000% yes and i detest rogue-anything
@Dualmask Yes, again a roguelike…… I really don't like seeing developers overusing that genre... Especially when they have awesome pixel-art artists of whom the talent should be used elsewhere.
And it looked so incredibly promising when I was looking at the Guerilla Collective stream
@grewupnintendo - Pretty sure you view on hard and the potential market is a little skewed. Games like Demon's Souls and Bloodbourne are hailed for that difficulty. Super Meat Boy is a huge flagship to such a style of game.
It may not be for you, but it sure does have a decent audience for such a title. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like them. For me, it feels budget-friendly way to avoid making new content. But if I can feel the growth each playthrough (Dead Cells) I am far more forgiving.
It's pretty silly how much time you guys spend complaining about a genre you don't like. I don't hop on every FIFA and rhythm game article to complain about how developers are wasting their time. Devs are going to keep making these games as long as people keep buying them (Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon, etc.). The devs aren't "wrong": you are.
@Paraka I guess I should clarify, I have beat all of the Dark Souls games and while hard they don't come close to some of these indies that don't allow a true ending if you continue etc. There are some beasts out there for sure.
@Dualmask Couldn’t agree more. I finally learned my lesson with Dead Cells that “rogue-lite” just isn’t for me. Same with Rogue Legacy, though that game was intensely funny so it made the constant restarts a little more bearable. I’m pretty done with the genre at this point though.
@nimnio
Ha! This.!
@nimnio
👏👏👏 So much truth there. It surely seems that it would be much more beneficial & make more sense for them to just ignore them & just engage in something that they actually enjoy & is more akin to their tastes. All of the moaning & crying because a game isn't catering to them when there's such a wealth of other options out there to enjoy is just pretty darn silly.
I mean honestly I've gotten quite a bit tired & increasingly more bored of sony's approach to many of their games. Where they're almost always single player, over the shoulder, trying mucho hard to be emotional wannabe movie games. Where there's a bow & arrow wielding protagonist running about in a containing average stealth gameplay.
Yet, you'll never see me constantly haunting threads of those games just to whine about them or question other folks enjoyment with them. If they're not enjoyable to me, I just don't play them. Not worth constantly groaning about.
Review please. I’m suffering terrible crashing issues. Need to know if it’s just me.
Why aren’t you reviewing this? Massive Damage and Raw Fury are absolutely ripping of your fanbase right now. People need to know before they buy this terrible, shocking port of what is frustratingly a great game. Do your followers a favour and tell them about this before they buy.
