UK chart data is now in for the week ending 16th May, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has managed to keep hold of its number one spot for another week.
It's a familiar top four this week, with Animal Crossing once again being hunted down by Grand Theft Auto V - which is still selling well on PS4 and Xbox One - and the latest Call of Duty and FIFA titles making their usual appearance.
Both Pokémon Sword and Shield saw a significant boost this week, both rising to 12th and 13th respectively, while a total of three Nintendo-published titles made it into the top ten.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
1 | 1 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
2 | 2 | Grand Theft Auto V |
4 | 3 |
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare |
3 | 4 | FIFA 20 |
5 | 5 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
6 | 6 | Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order |
7 | 7 | Luigi's Mansion 3 |
11 | 8 | Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy |
8 | 9 | Red Dead Redemption 2 |
12 | 10 | Just Dance 2020 |

Did you buy any of these chart-topping games this week? Let us know down below.

Do the people that buy GTA V just go on a monthly ritualistic run to get another copy? This genuinely confuses me. There have to be people in the UK who have 10 copies of that game by now.
Good to see AC still at the top. I think next week will be like this too, but it will be interesting to see the week after when Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition releases.
GTA V....that game just prints money. Great to see AC:NH doing so well though.
GTA V currently free on pc
It might play a part here
Why would people be paying for GTA V? It's free on the Epic Store this week...
Why is it surprising that a new game is outselling a game released seven years ago? I mean, I know it's popular and had lots of updates but surely the majority of fans have it by now.
I don't play it, did Rockstar stop supporting the older version and push everyone to rebuy it on newer consoles or something? Even PS4, which isn't backwards compatible, surely most people have upgraded by now.
@Tantaini would the free downloads on PC count toward this list though?
Wow either animal crossing sales are poor or GTA V is still selling thousands a week for a 7 year old game
@playstation_king
It's the latter.
@Heavyarms55 Well, that seven year old game happens to outsell all the other games except Animal Crossing. So it's not news that AC is outselling it. It's news that it's outselling all other games.
@Playstation_king You can't tell by this chart whether AC sales are very good or are poor. Who knows, AC might be selling millions a week? Or it could be selling just a few It's above GTA V, that's all the chart is saying.
@playstation_king I mean...none of this is an indication that Animal Crossing is selling poor - it's literally in top spot with no discernable way to tell the difference in numbers between it and GTA V.
Keep in mind that there are also massive shortages of both the Switch and Animal Crossing in the UK which means a lot of people are probably sticking to buying games on other systems.
I remember thinking Crash Team Racing may actually challenge MK8Deluxe sales wise due to it being available on multiple platforms. Not even close in the end. Mario Kart is King.
Green fella continues to surpass all expectations.
@Varkster yeah that's True, though I suppose animal crossing is the kind of game you keep for life so maybe most people are buying it digitally which I think is counted in these charts
@playstation_king
Nope Nintendo doesn't provide digital sales info in weekly charts. Physical sales only in this chart.
@playstation_king As the person above stated, Nintendo doesn't reveal digital sales until their own business reports later down the line (I believe usually only in investor meetings and at the end of financial year).
To answer a few comments above, GTA V being free on PC this week has no impact on this chart. These UK chart updates only ever take into account physical sales and all of GTA V's sales this week came on PS4 and Xbox One. 🙂
@Tantani @Heavyarms55
@ryancraddock I know
But if someone gave both console and PC and you want to buy a game and it is free on the pc, you will just probably take it on the PC
I dont get the GTA V thing
By now everyone in the UK should have a copy, with me being the only one who doesn't.
But man I bet Rockstar North are laughing all the way to the bank, Surely if they bought it switch they could rake it in.
@Bunkerneath
I think GTA V is like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch in that if you are buying a PS4 or Xbox One it is the defacto game to buy with the system.
Luigi mansion 3 still in the top ten wow. Got to go back to this one day, I always give up after an hour. One day x x
Ouch, both FF7 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake no where to be found. Sad to see such poor sales from such expensive games. Congrats to Luigi Mansion and Animal Crossing, truly amazing numbers.
Is it still the case that UK charts are made of up of:
1) All new physical copies sold
2) Digital copies from all major publishers on PSN, XBL and Steam
??
If so it's pretty remarkable that Nintendo consistently commands so many top 10 spots.
I always wondered why this game never made it on the Switch (GTA 5) but looking at the bigger picture. They don't need to put it on the Switch. Third party games don't sell well enough on the Switch to merit them bothering and week in week out their still on the top 10 list with this game.
Not like they need the Switch's sales for this to happen, which would be a drop in the ocean for them at this point.
GTA5 is just mind blowing! That must be the most successful re-release of all time?
Poor people that payed for GTAV just before they gave it for free on the PC lol
@PretendWorking
Not convinced digital sales on Playstation and Xbox has overtaken physical just yet.
@PretendWorking
Please point out in either of those articles where it says games now sell more digitally than pyhsically on Playstation or Xbox because I cannot see it.
You said above "even Xbox and PS are more digital than physical, only Nintendo is still more physical than digital."
Neither of those articles you linked to say that.
@PretendWorking interesting, any official leads I can find as to what the data includes implies that digital sales from PSN, XBL and Steam from pretty much all major publishers began to be included from early 2019.
@PretendWorking Yeah, most of which were Fortnite downloads. Lol. And FF7 Remake would be lucky to get Luigi Mansion 3 numbers. Which it wont, which makes it a flop. This game cost them so much money to make, yet it's selling horribly below expectations.
@PretendWorking
Well there you go. I will point out Nintendo recently confirmed 50% of Animal Crossings sales were digital so Nintendo not as far behind as some would think.
@PretendWorking Just saying, your PS4 digital downloads includes free games like Fortnite. Show us a game that has 50% plus digital downloads like Animal Crossing. Until then, counting free downloads is a disgrace.
@PretendWorking
Don't know, but it is the most recent article about digital sales on a Nintendo console and as the game is still number 1 in UK and Japan and likely many other physical charts as well as being a massive seller digitally it shows Nintendo is raking the cash in either way.
Also since the start of the pandemic pyhsical games sales have gone up in the UK compared to this time last year for all 3 consoles so who knows how the digital/physical balance has been affected.
I feel like I'm the only uk resident who doesn't own GTA 5 at this point.
The fact it's GTA V that it's having to fend off is actually more impresse, in GTA V's favour.
@PretendWorking Your still counting free game downloads. That's sad mate.
@PretendWorking I'm not twisting anything. Your article stated in 2017 Sony had more digital games downloaded than Nintendo. They were counting free downloads. It's such a silly and weak Stat is means nothing.
@PretendWorking It stats downloads. Which include free games. Show us one game where the digital sales are higher than the physical. Well wait for your data. Good luck.
Animal Crossing is only big game that has higher digital sales than physical. Sony don't have a single big game even close to such amazing stats. Get that free game propaganda out here.
@Kimyonaakuma yeah that’s crazy it’s high up and people didn’t see it is free this week. It could be that lots of people don’t use the epic game store? I use gamepass PC, steam, and epic game store. I figured those were like the main ones everyone uses.
