It would appear that Nintendo is still confused over the official release date of Streets of Rage 4 on Switch, following up on its initial erroneous eShop listing with a new, incorrect news post.
You may remember that at the start of the month, the Nintendo Switch eShop updated to reveal that Streets of Rage 4 would be coming out on 23rd April. At the time, the game's publisher DotEmu said that this date was incorrect, causing quite a bit of confusion. We must say, we initially thought that Nintendo's listing must be correct and that DotEmu was simply trying to hold back on announcing the release.
Soon after, though, it was revealed that the game would be launching on Switch a week later than the eShop listing first told us, with a new 30th April date being given. We were finally starting to feel content about having a solid date as a result, but then this showed up on the Switch's News Channel:
Seemingly only viewable on Australian accounts at the time of writing, this message from Nintendo once again says that the game is out now, lining up with that incorrect 23rd April release. Going to the eShop shows that, actually, it definitely isn't.
We're not sure why Nintendo's systems seem to be so adamant that the game's coming out, well, yesterday, but we promise it's officially due out on 30th April. We can't wait for the game to finally be in our hands - partly because we're eager to play it, and partly so that this is whole mess can be over once and for all.

Sad to see the game get delayed. But I've never heard of the developer, so they probably just experiencing issues. I'll be wary of this game, hope it reviews well, but I doubt it.
I wait for reviews. Don't like the art style at all, but wait for review about gameplay and possible sale price.
@mesome713 It was never delayed because they never gave it an official launch date in the first place. I played this at EGX last year and it is a brilliantly faithful homage to the original and assuming there aren't any technical issues it will review pretty darn well I reckon. Day 1 for me.
@mesome713 DotEmu made the great Wonderboy: Dragon's Trap game on the Switch, so I don't doubt their ability to make great games. Why do you think it will not review well?
Really not sure about this game yet.
@Axlroselm Exactly my thoughts. To be honest, playing through SOR on the SEGA Classics Collection never gets old anyways.
@stocko Lizardcube developed Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap. Ive never heard of any games developed by this company, so I have zero trust in them.
@mesome713 Streets of Rage 4 It is being co-developed by Lizardcube and DotEmu. DotEmu published Wonderboy, so I hope it will be on the same level as that!
NOA's site still says April 30th. It seems as though there's some misinformation, but I'd probably take that date to the bank. My guess is that some or much of the Nintendo News app is tied to a calendar tool and that the automated tool that posts game release updates is just posting that erroneous info.
@stocko Nice, I didn't know Lizardcube was developing it. This is good news.
@Axlroselm @scollurio you can play with the classic character sprites if you want.
@Tim_Vreeland And the classic music too!
It's exactly how I felt about River City Girls: I love old-school beatemups, but that asking price is crazy.
@mesome713 Game was never delayed, but anyway, Dotemu is a really well known and trusted game company. A lot of triple AAA studios have used them on projects too. They are mostly known for bringing classic games to modern consoles.
Heres some if their work you may have played or heard of:
Double Dragon Trilogy
A Bunch of Final Fantasy ports
Bunch of SNK ports such as Metal Slug and KOF
RType ports
Ys ports
Windjammers 2
X-Men arcade game on Xbox live and psn
wery of streets of rage! Now thats a new one but honestly you cant go wrong with streets of rage.
Proof that Nintendo staff look at the Switch news app about as much as I do (next to never).
@mjharper How did Nintendo go from having a legit news app on the Wii, to that “news” app on the Switch? Smh...
Streets of Rage 4? Completed it....
I'm SO looking forward to playing this game!
I still have at least 3-4 months waiting on limited run... If they're allowed to post to the UK by then...
Doesn't look very good imo. Which is a shame. I loved this classic series back in the 90s.
I'll play this one on Game Pass first, then I'll see what I'll do about it
New equals bad so I wont buy. Its not like my game on Sega Mega Drive .
/s
Capcom beat em up bundle has 7 of these games and is on sale for $13 in canada.
If you like these types of games, I’d pick that up instead.
@stocko because he's having a sulk about the art style.
Streets of Rage always felt like the perfect candidate to get a movie adaptation to me. Like it could have been the perfect cross between Die Hard and the Warriors. Too bad nobody else ever saw that potential.
I should REALLY play thru SoR3 before i get the copy in the mail. Although the copy probabaly won't be in my hands for at least another month.
So basically, game was delayed behind the scenes and they didn't say anything about it, only to claim that everyone saying the original date is a liar, when they hadn't themselves updated anyone?
For this game i dont care for the reviews. I just want it in my library.
@Axlroselm I don't like your way of thinking.. Every review and game n stleplay vid shows this as the best streets of rage ever... Yes HD fluid sprites would be preferred..but it still looks fantastic in handrawn style... And u can unlock pixel versions of the old characters... If u really can't get around it then go find streets of rage remake for the pc... That game is free and perfection of the classic games
@NintendoByNature Don't.. You will frustrate yourself to no end... That game has multiple endings and its hard asf.... Music also sux.. Game play is good tho
@BlackStar9000 I played it as a kid but never finished it. I play it in small chunks on genesis classics for switch
@NintendoByNature same... I couldn't beat it u til I played it on streets of rage remake... Which is the best version of all 3 original games with tons of extras... Free on pc... But I have this one now and game play wise it's great... Only cherry can run with I don't like and there are no dodge rolls... But it feels really good to play and looks much better in motion. I dont care much for the new music.. But stage 11 is something kinda special in that regard. I think it needs some more tweaks because there are certain enemies and aoe attacks that are very hard to avoid without a fast character leading to deaths.... And bombs hit u while ur down leading to combo explosion death... Very lame.
