QUByte Interactive has revealed a brand new original game called 2120 MARS: Project Colonies, a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure game inspired by the likes of Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Guacamelee!.
In the game, players take on the role of Lt. Anna “Charlotte” Right, a member of an enhanced elite group of Space Marines who's been sent on a mission to the first Human Colony on Mars. She's there thanks to a distress signal that was received on Earth and must used her enhanced abilities to traverse a large, interconnected world while fighting enemies and bosses alike.
We have a story synopsis for you below - it all sounds rather intriguing:
In the 22nd Century, mankind has developed the technology that made manned missions to other planets a reality. Following these developments, the UN led a treat signed by governments all over the globe to start investments on building Colonies on our nearest planets as means of addressing the issues with overpopulation and lack of natural resources on Earth.
The treat was a success and the program, codenamed Project: Colonies, produced inhabited colonies in several planets, the first of which Project: Mars, followed by Project: Venus and Project: Jupiter.
After going unresponsive for several weeks, the First Colony, in Mars, sends a distress signal to the UN on Earth which, in response, sends a group of Enhanced Elite Space Marines, led by Lt. Anna “Charlotte” Right, to identify the source of the signal and find out what happened to the Colony.
Upon descent on Mars their Spaceship is shot down, leaving just a wounded Col. Right to explore the Colony in pursuit of the truth of what lies behind all these incidents.
Other than the teaser trailer shared above, further details are still rather sparse. We do know that it's expected to launch on Switch later this year, however, and that gameplay details are expected to be released "soon".

If this is what it says it is,it’s really jumping waaaay up on my list. I wish I saw some gameplay in that trailer but it was impressive nonetheless! I like the character as well with those “coattails.” There’s something about needing a cape or trailing thing attached to you for Metroidvania style games.
I’ll be keeping both my eyes balls on this!
EDIT: really hoping this game looks more like, say, The Messenger or Shadow Complex and less like, say, Eliot Quest or Hyper Light Drifter. Although I really love the latter, Especially Eliot Quest, that faux-pixel style really really irks me.
Looks cool! And everything inspired by Metroid gets a plus on my list.
But the camera in the trailer is a bit wack. First first person, then a zoom out once the helmet is gone? Is the camera flying away with the helmet? Do you have a little Lakitu in your helmet?
Need to see actual gameplay to have an informed opinion on this one.
Seeing as Nintendo don’t seem to want to give us any Metroid, I’ll probably be all over this like a bad rash if it scores well!
So, no release date, no news on how far this is into development and no gameplay...
PRE-ORDERED.
@ChromaticDracula damn I’d love a new shadow complex!
I got PN05 vibes from this. (Which reminds me Capcom, there is a game that could do with a re-release!)
Honestly the whole game should had been like the trailer, well the 1st person section of the trailer that is. If it's like that it'll definitely give Metroid Prime a run for its money, that'll likely persuade Nintendo to finally give us that Metroid Prime Trilogy that we really wanted. Sad that it won't be that though.
I just hate movie style trailers for games...
Games should have gameplay ONLY trailers unless you are interested in intros, cutscenes and outros...
Nintendo is so inspiring, it's awesome.
This looks pretty good but I'm gonna need an explanation for why she took off her helmet on mars
Was totally into it until the trailer ended without showing gameplay.
I wish they would have shown more. I'm all for a sci-fi adventure with a female lead, but I want to see what the game is actually like. I really wish developers would stop acting like movie makers. Your objective is to sell us a game, not a setting or a story. That's all seasoning and icing on the core element: the gameplay.
And I'm not a fan of them using the FPS perspective in the trailer when the game is supposed to be a side-scroller either. It's almost using the Super Metroid/Halo inspiration in a disingenuous way.
I'm curious about this game, sounds interesting.
So many news lately! Have I missed a Direct??
That trailer revealed too much, to the point of spoiling the game for me! Shorter and less revealing trailers please!
More like, inspired by the worst part of third party E3 trailers - no gameplay!
They made a mistake thinking they were Ubisoft marketing because when you’re indie, you need to make a good first impression/splash
Whats the point in showing a fps movie trailer and telling what kind of game it will be?
Not many games are realy metroidvania anyway, yes there are maps and sub levels, but where is the atmosphere?
Only hollow knight comes close
Where's the gameplay footage?
Before I read it was 2.5D, the video almost looked like it would be inspired by Metroid Prime. And now I can't unthink it. Why haven't Indies attempted a Metroid Prime-like?
Game play footage would be nice not just a cut scene.
@aetios Have you never seen Total Recall?
@segamegadrive I have not.
Well that teaser showed me nothing about the gameplay to know it's a 2.5d Metroid.
