Switch already boasts a plethora of Prinnies in the three Disgaea games already on the system, but the Prinnies are irrepressible and NIS America has announced that it is bringing two spin-off platformers from the PSP to Switch this autumn in the form of Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded. Dood!
Combining both humorously named entries (Prinny 1: Can I Really Be The Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn Of Operation Panties, Dood!), this new compilation will also include all the DLC in a double dood-filled Disgaea-y dish.
Where the mainline Disgaea games are hardcore SRPGs in a fun-loving, irreverent package, the Prinny games are platformers starring the series' eternally loveable battlefield fodder. For the uninformed, these endlessly enthusiastic penguin-like little guys provide much of the comic relief in an excellent strategy series which doesn't take itself too seriously in the first place. TLDR: Prinnies dive into battle with gusto and say "dood" an awful lot.
Both these Nippon Ichi games originated on Sony's PSP but after 10 years it's great to see them again on Switch. Here are a few key features as per the official press release:
- Two in One...and More! - Two action-packed chapters of Prinny’s rise to become a hero, plus an expansive post-game chapter featuring... Asagi!? ...Who was that again?
- The Netherworld, Only Better - All the dark comedy and explosive action you love from the Disgaea series, now with newly remastered graphics.
- Prinny Power - Jump, slash, explode, and Hip Pound your way through chaotic and vivid levels, and unleash powerful special moves to devastate your enemies!
Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded will be getting a deluxe physical release known as the 'Just Desserts Edition' featuring a variety of goodies, as you can see in this delicious pic:
Had you hoped to see the remaining Disgaeas on Switch first? Played the original Prinnies on PSP? Let us know your thoughts below... dood.

These games were great. Tough as nails too.
+1 For not having the stupid steelbook. Looks to be a good set, $59.99 would be a great price for this. Wouldn't pay a dollar more though.
I don’t like Disgaea, but I LOVE the Prinny spin offs. This news rules.
Er....um, okay then...? o.0
YES! very excited about this, absolutely love this series on the psp
DOOD!
Nice. I've never played them but I was expecting to see them on Switch sooner or later.
Alternative title: I Wanna Be The Dood
Awesome! I've played the first one's undub (so I dare hope this compilation may grow the option officially) but didn't get far due to trying not to waste lives in the first chapters... and you can guess how it went in the very second one. Seriously, you have literally 1000 lives and you will literally need them all. These games are often deemed spiritual successors to Ghosts'n'Ghouls for a reason.
Glad to see someone around here is willing to revive and bring back their great games to unshackle them from long dead hardware. Can't wait to try it out!
Disappointed. I was hoping we'd hear about Ys IX.
My Disgaea backlog was bad enough as it is!
I think these would be lower down the list for me.
Now the only major ports Switch or PC left for the disgaea side of things are:
Disgaea 2-3, D2*
Makai Kingdom*
La Pucelle Tactics*
Phantom Brave*
Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman
Soul Nomad
And i guess Marl Kingdom games/ Witch Hundred games, but im fine with not getting em.
When Disgaea 6 and Labrinth Refrain 2 tho, lol.
Well...I can still play this games on my PSP. If be honest, I am bit tired of all this ports. There is new games?
DOOOOOOD it looks real RAD!
@Anvold Ya, my PSP still has this and a bunch of other games sitting on it's SD card haha.
Very cool. Excuse me, I need to go place a preorder.
I had both of these Dood! Can't wait to play them on new hardware! We must protect the pudding Dood!
YES! I've missed out on these on psp (got into sony's handheld way too late) woo here is to more psp ports. Buying these day 1!
It’s Prinny Time
Have both games on my PSP but haven't played, silly backlog. Will give them ago before I decide on the Switch version but looks fun.
Interested in Pinny games for a long time.
I don't mind that the art hasn't been redrawn for modern resolutions so much – but I do hope there is an option where we can remove that nasty filter and see the game in it's original 480 x 272 pixel-art.
I hate it when they don't let the pixels shine.
@Ardisan Someone remembering and wanting a ZHP port on actual gen can only be a good and wise person. I hug you and wish you a good night I'd so much like that game to be available again (and I played thousands of games, including those Prinnies games).
The only thing I care about is asagi!
Never cared for PSP but I love Disgaea and always wanted to play these 2 games. I knew they were going to port these at some point! Sweet, dood!!
@RupeeClock
I wanna be the dead ?
( dood is dutch for dead. Considering how hard these games are, I wouldn't be surprised if that was intentional.)
@Arkabed Ayyy!
I'll happily add this to the backlog eventually. Dood.
As long as they change the god awful voice cast of Prinny 2, I'll be ecstatic. Nothing pissed me off more than the Prinny Hero's voice in Prinny 2.
Always great when “new” 3rd party announcement on Switch remind me I have a VITA in my closet 🙄
@Agramonte Always great when a "new" comment reminds me that people believe asinine things like games stop being good or worth playing after they're a month old or get ported to another system.
Definitely will pick this up for sure.
@PanurgeJr Always great when a "new" comment reminds me that people believe asinine things like games that people have sitting in their libraries (and ignored for years) magically become "worth playing" again because they get ported to another system.
@Agramonte How you got that from my comment is beyond me. That you did isn't, however.
I'm looking forward to seeing you bring up Final Fantasy 7 constantly and never once explaining why it is exempted from your disdain for old games. (If you want, just ask and I'll explain it to you. Your motivations are quite simple, really.)
@PanurgeJr I am not buying FF7. The demo looks great - and this is the amount of "work" an old game should get to justify $60 price.
But i am not spending Hrs of my free time leveling a jRPG I already know how it ends. Just like Tokyo Mirage FE.
I did not get Bayonetta 1 on PS4. I have a Switch that can play 1, 2 and soon 3. And a PC that can play it also. That is not "disdain" for the PS4 or Bayonetta... I just do not need 3 pieces of hardware with the same 1 old game. This is not "Disdain" for Prinny or Switch... I also do not need this game on 2 hardware in my house.
Not a Disgaea Dood, but the Prinny games look fun.
