Last week, Nintendo revealed its new DLC fighter Byleth for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. At the time, Masahiro Sakurai explained how the latest addition to the roster would take a little more time to prepare and wouldn't be available until 28th January.
Now, in a small update over on Twitter, the Nintendo Versus account has reminded fans the Version 7.0 will be arriving within a week. It's expected to include fighter adjustments, and as usual, replay data from previous versions will no longer be compatible.
Byleth will be followed by another six fighters. There'll even be a new pass called the 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2' made available for pre-purchase on 28th January that comes with the Breath of the Wild Ancient Soldier costume (for the Mii Fighter).

they wont be able to sell Fighter Pack 2 without giving people either the reveal of the first fighter, or a bonus for pre-ordering
Do we know if this 7.0 includes anything else? Like game modes and such.
I absolutely love three houses and I love Byleth, but I don’t think it was wise of Nintendo to choose her/him, given how it’s common knowledge that the Smash/Nintendo fanbase in general has been repeatedly irked due to the fact that Fire Emblem is overrepresented when compared to almost all other series in Smash.
Literally anyone and everyone could have foreseen this blowing up in their face. But oh well, I’ll greatly enjoy playing as Byleth regardless.
@isellpixels The pre-order bonus is an exclusive Mii Fighter costume. Not much of a sell for the majority of the market, but completionists are gonna have to get it. Then again though, completionists would buy the pack regardless as they would get every character anyway to have a complete set.
So excited for Byleth and the 3H OST in Smash. Paths That Will Never Cross, Chasing Daybreak, and Blue Skies and a Battle are top tier music! My absolute favorite DLC content so far!

It has always been said that "Always have to please the customer," "whatever the customer asks," "give preference to consumer ideas," which is correct and fine, if you are looking for your customers, or in this In this case, the fanbase receives what "it asks for" or "wants", you will have more support from them, however, you have to keep in mind that it is not always a good idea to follow 100% what people ask for and also, the developers have right to put something they want, after all, they have planned, spent their time, their life, their money (in some way) to develop the game, why not give them the pleasure of putting, in this case, the character they want to put?; or what?, the fanbase did not have enough with The Joker, Banjo Kazooie, The Hero, Terry and all the wonderful soundtrack and the unique stages, to complain about a single character, which, then, is a new reference in general, has great Soundtrack and a new scenario?
oh well ..
They need to buff Hero and nerf everybody else in this update.
How about adding a spell to his down special where he has a 1 in 1.5102 of gaining a Final Smash?

@GetShulked Agreed, I loved Three Houses but the Byleth announcement was a disappoinment.
IMO, however, it was just bad timing. I definitely would not have ended the Fighter's Pass with Byleth. I would've announced Him/Her first, if at all possible. It was the only reveal that didn't feel like a surprise, compared to everyone else.
That being said, I think that the constant rumors/"leaks" are what magnify situations like this. If you are really expecting Dante or DoomSlayer then of course the Byleth reveal is going to leave an extra bad taste in your mouth. I think that Nintendo Life does a good job, in general, reminding readers to take these rumors/"leaks" with a grain of salt. Although, when you are constantly being bombarded with misinformation, it's hard to ignore.
Byleth... sounds like an anti-consumerism campaign from someone with a lisp.
@the_beaver Almost certainly includes event spirits that were circulating from 6.0 to now. Every major update always adds them in permanently, so the Tetris, Resident Evil, and Astral Chain spirits are pretty much guaranteed. The ones for the Kunio-Kun event are likely to be held off until 8.0 since that event starts only a week before 7.0's release.
I think it made sense for them to do a less exciting character like Byleth as the final of this pass, as it will be more impactful to start pass 2 with a fighter everyone’s excited for. That said, I’m not stoked for Byleth, even tho I like Three Houses, but I’m fine with it. No point in complaining really:)

But here is when there is a problem, if you have already been told that it is rumor / "leak" and you still have the idea that it is true, when the real news comes out and the rumor is false, instead of blaming the one who dispersed the rumor / leak, or, sorry, yourselves of your disappointment, some of you blame, in this case, Nintendo and Sakurai, that is, they pay the problems of others; Do you think that's fair?
@isellpixels I hope the bonus this time is better, the last one (the Pirahna Plant) wasn't bad but not what everyone was expecting either. I still hope for Waddle Dee or Bullet Bill or even King Boo as the pre-order bonus DLC fighter.

True. In general, the "pleasing the customers" mostly works in services that doesn't require higher degree of innovation such as supermarkets and hotels. Game developers don't have that luxury. I think Steve Jobs was absolutely right when he said that "people don't know what they want until you show it to them".
What went wrong with Byleth was most likely the third scenario: obvious advertising for the FE upcoming dlc as the last of the five fighters. They needed to include him/her now if it should get an impact on FE sales, but that costed space for the last fighter. It was obvious that people would not be excited for nother FE character, and what made it much worse was that you're supposed to have a "last surprise" when you present something as a company and not a controversial inclusion.... You do that in the middle of a package where people won't get as focused/miffed. Of course they had a deadline with the FE dlc, but it definitely had some sacrifices.
In short, smart advertising but reeeeally bad timing for the fighters dlc
Redownloaded Smash for Byleth, so I'm quite excited myself. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I can buy just Byleth rather than having to shell out the full price of the pass.
And just in time for my birthday
I'm more excited for the new spirits than the character to be honest.
You may not like Byleth, but we can all agree the stage is very cool?

Sure, I want Professor E Gadd, or Issac From Golden Sun, or Cranky Kong, or Dixie Kong, or Geno, or Tetris Block. Would of loved any of those characters. Those are some of my more desired additions. Though My honest thought is if the team is able to create the character they want, not what CEOs demand or fans demand, the character is going get move love, and the reveal of Byleth shows, they put some real thought into the next FE character. I'm looking forward to trying him/her out.

@the_beaver Sakurai said that the Home Run Contest would be the final new mode. He could change his mind of course, but Smash Ultimate seems pretty complete in that sense.
I've never played a Fire Emblem game, have wanted to for several years, but have NO idea where to start. It seems almost too daunting to give it a go.
@Hordak Just start with Three Houses, plenty of people who've never touched a Fire Emblem game started out with that. It doesn't really matter which one you start with.
