Nintendo has shared a list of the top 30 most-downloaded games on the Nintendo eShop for November 2019.
As you can see, Fortnite has once again taken top spot thanks to its free price point and huge popularity, followed by a list of Nintendo first-party favourites. It's interesting to see that the two Pokémon games couldn't topple Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the eShop considering their formidable success in the physical charts. Although, having said that, the games' sales are split three ways when factoring in the double-pack.
This list comes from the Nintendo Switch news channel, distributed specifically to users in North America. It notes that the ranking is "based on Nintendo eShop unit sales", which includes games of all prices (even if they're free to download) but discounts demos.
Here's the full list:
- Fortnite
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Pokémon Sword
- Pokémon Shield
- Luigi’s Mansion 3
- Minecraft
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Preventive Strike
- Untitled Goose Game
- Rocket League
- Cuphead
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Mad Age & This Guy
- Overcooked! 2
- Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Double Pack
- Just Dance 2020
- Stardew Valley
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Super Mario Party
- Quest for the Golden Duck
- Overwatch: Legendary Edition
- Crypt of the NecroDancer: Nintendo Switch Edition
- Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
- Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
- Unravel Two
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
- Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun!
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
- Asphalt 9: Legends
Any surprises? Did you download any of these titles from the eShop last month? Let us know in the usual place.

Oh right, there was a substantial discount on Preventative Strike.
Did not expect Fortnite on top, as I never think much of it.
Am I so out of touch?
No. It is the children who are wrong.
Oh no! Hollow Knight and Castle Crashers aren't on the list anymore 😰
@Pod nothing wrong with liking fortnite. You dont have to like it, I personally dont like it. But hating on it just because is objectively wrong. Let these kids play their games. You were once a kid too.
Of course, Preventative Strike ranks high because it cost two cents, haha.
Quite interesting also to see that Crypt of the Necrodancer is listed, and Cadence of Hyrule is not.
Are we seeing CoH players returning for more by grabbing CotN at a discount price?
Nice to see Untitled Goose Game in the top ten. Soon PlayStation gamers would soon be able to play this awesome masterpiece.
@PickledKong64 it’s due to massive discounting.
@PickledKong64 I believe @Pod was making a joke and referencing Mr. Skinner from "The Simpsons."
@Pod LOL. I used to hate Fortnite soooo much but it’s actually a really good game (which I would NEVER have expected myself to say). Never really played it until this latest season, but now I have 50+ hours in it, lol. Super balanced and the fort-building actually makes the game better (I always thought it should be removed) and is worth learning to do.
It’s also got the best Battle Pass I’ve ever seen for $10, since not only can you unlock all the skins in like 30 hours, but the skins are actually good (as opposed to pallet swapped trash in other games), and if you complete the pass (which presently you have until February to do), you’ll get enough in game money to buy the next season’s pass (so you can play off of that $10 forever, technically).
TL;DR Great game, actually. Highly recommended.
I wonder if Sword & Shield would be the actual number 1.
Still not a fan of counting Fortnite if it's free.
Minecraft just never ends does it? Amazing. I’m glad a creative game is doing well.
Must get myself Orli for a Xmas gift too.
@PcTV with physical sales inclusief, probably
@Pod, the reason it's #1 on the list is because it's free and immensely popular.
@keihtg, that's a bold opinion and I respect that. I too used to be into fortnite but I've gotten bored of the game now so I don't really play it anymore. One of the main reasons so many people isn't because it's a dry game or anything but it's because of the people playing it like kids and streamers, and because it's "too popular" so anyone who legitimately likes the game doesn't have to feel bad about it.
Preventive Strike wasn't worth the 2 pennies I paid for it...
Warms my heart to see Cuphead still selling well. I love that game to pieces!
There is a digital sword/shield double pack? Thought the point of the double pack was to give the other copy to a friend or for siblings... why would anyone have two copies under the same account?
I am STUNNED that the FREE Asphalt 9 isn't number 2. Sublime arcade racer!!
9. Peace was never an option.
@keihtg awesome to see someone not trashing the game FOR ONCE lol
@PickledKong64 I agree with you. I don't get people who have to make the biggest deal over a video game that oh everybody should hate it and it should even exist, but a lot of people enjoy games that other people may or may not like. I do enjoy fortnite a bit, I don't like the game very much but I like to play it with my cousin and my brothers from time to time.
@Pod Love that last part of your comment, I needed a good chuckle.
I'm surprised Smash Bros Ultimate is that high, beating all 3 Pokemon versions and Luigi's Mansion 3.
Weekly eShop rankings show Smash Bros Ultimate much lower on list, so I wonder what the discrepancy is.
Despite being released in November, Smash Ultimate is still beat SwSh. Not knocking Pokemon, it just shows how freaking great a game Smash Ultimate is.
What the heck is Mad Age and This Guy? Some 2 cent game?
@Pod It's also free. That really helps with "sales". Free to download games should have a different list.
No surprise I’ve only played 2 of the games on that list
Surprised Quest for the Golden Duck was beaten by FE:3H, but it was VERY close
I love Fortnite, have hundreds of hours in it. I have 25 games on that list, don't play many of them though.
Interesting that Link’s Awakening is nowhere to be found on the list, though maybe it’s because there weren’t any discounts on it in November?
I'd love to see BotW being in top sales charts decades from now. Even aliens should play it once everyone on earth has a copy.
@Pod top notch reference, and I just wanted you to know at least one person caught it.
@Audiogore0733 thank you man. Hate will only breed more hate
@progx @Dustopolis
Principal Skinner tought me not to try and be "with it".
