UK chart data is now in for the week ending 28th September, revealing that The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has dropped down to second place.
Considering this week's competition, a second place finish is still mightily impressive. Anyone who follows UK gaming trends won't be surprised to hear that FIFA 20 has jumped straight to number one in its opening week. Only 1% of sales were on Switch, with PS4 being the platform of choice for most players (61%), which perhaps isn't all that surprising.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age was a new entry this week, managing to debut in 11th place, narrowly missing out on a top ten spot.
Here's a look at this week's top twenty all formats chart:

1% of sales on Switch is not surprising since it is literally last year’s game
Not too surprised by this chart, but it is encouraging to see Link's Awakening at second. (Start stupid here)Probably would of been first if it launched the following week... unless there is a release this week that I am forgetting about.(End stupid here)
Edit: Derp. This is the week following launch. Not with it today.
All is lost! All is lost! The end is nigh! Nintendoomed and so forth!
Good result for Zelda. Didn’t expect it to hold top spot with fifa coming out(despite me not understanding why people buy it year after year). Think that’s pretty good sales for dragon quest on the switch as well. They really did a great job with that port with extra content so I really hope it does well.
I’m surprised even 1% have bought it on Switch but then that’s what EA want to happen so that next year they won’t bother at all. They shouldn’t have bothered this year either!
@jarvismp They are contractually obligated to release FIFA for all systems by their contract with the football Association. They aren't purposely releasing poor versions in order that the don't need to continue to release FIFA games but rather it is the very minimum work they need to do to fulfil their contract obligations.
@sixrings The problem is though that EA use Fifa sales figures as 'proof' that it isn't worth their time to bring other, more complete games to the Switch. Not that we're particularly missing out on anything I suppose.
Seems DQ will do much better in the US and NA markets, where it has held the #2 video game sold on Amazon for a week now, and has been in top 30 ever since Hero was revealed for Smash.
Should do around 200k in Japan as well (would be more but the 3DS/PS4 versions already released there).
UK just isnt a big market for the Switch, though the staple 1st party franchises seem to do much better there.
@jarvismp It, unfortunately, does seem like that typical setup to have reason to say 'see? It doesn't sell' when -they- are the ones ensuring that by releasing shady bs. To think it seemed hopeful after the system got momentum...
I mean just look at TT w/Wwe games. They released a pos with Wwe 2k18(which they quickly abandoned after it was already late and they likely could've at least fixed; had promise) and we haven't seen '19 or now '20. :/
Haven't looked at Nba '20 yet but it looks like all we have left rn so I hope at least that sticks around.
It will only be number one until COD comes out, then it will be 2!
Everyone who loves football needs to play Fifa. Fifa is friendship
Just amazing. Fifa... I mean.. Why? Who buys that trash anyway.
Link's Awakening is great! Ten days later I am still playing it and loving it! What is a Fifa?
@Cyrax77 great avatar!
Disgusting. Well done UK.
@Dugan,
Thank you very much. Same to you.
Links Awakening is an amazing game. I love it, just love it.
Stupid world
@sixrings It’s just laziness! Pure and simple.
@GX_64 tbh it is still tooooo damn high! should be around 0.01% or so, only from revierwers.
Links Awakening should be number 1!It's such an awesome game.
As for Fifa it's probably just friends and family of EA that buy it..
DQXI would have been in the top 10 if I had bought our 2 copies on Friday instead of Monday.
Sorry about that!
DQ XI will be my #1 for some time.
I’m really enjoying Links Awakening, never played it first time around.
Laaaaaame EA garbage takes #1, as usual. 🤮
No accounting for mass market taste but not surprising given the UKs love of “the beautiful game.” Personally I think link’s game’s way more beautiful
@MrGawain great game though. I'm having a good time with this one!
I'm glad that you all across the pond aren't falling for EA not updating the Switch version of FIFA. Good on you!
How did Sea of Thieves wash up in the top 10? DQ XI S is fine in 11th for a late port - Squenix shouldn’t be too disappointed (but I bet they are). Code Vein, on the other hand - ouch.
Shame to DQXI start so low. On PS4 it was #2 and the one game that was ahead of it was Spider-Man, an absolute sales colossus.
DQ11 sold about half the PS4 sold in first week.
Just another example how gamers do not wait. Switch games need same day release.
Not surprising, FIFA is a beast. With the Switch version at 1% - EA, really should just kill it.
Even considering the competition, I'm surprised DQ XI didn't chart higher. Props to Link's Awakening for maintaining excellent momentum though.
You Europeans and your silly soccer games.
Stupid people still falling for EA. Priceless.
Fifa being 1 proves the human race is devolving
It's always the new games get top first lol
Great job. Now they know for sure they don’t have to make any more new Zelda games, as rehashing a 25 year-old game (or a Wii U game) and selling it for $80 is just as good.
@Wazeddie22 Then they have a lot of friends and family lmao
@hoopderscotch It was rebuilt from scratch, which takes far more time and money than a simple port. I’d rather have that put towards a new 2D Zelda game, one that nobody has ever had the chance to play. That would mean two new Zeldas coming to the Switch rather than just one. Two is better than one.
Been gaming (with Nintendo always being my number one brand) for 29 years, and have barely ever so much as touched a Zelda game as they were just never fully my thing, and I generally lose interest once I get majorly stuck on a bit.
However, I started to get into them somewhat with the Windwaker HD on the Wii U, and then some 3DS Zeldas, and bought Links Awakening HD the other day, and I absolutely love it.
I may be around 25 years late with this one, but it was definitely worth every penny
@Cyrax77 The general masses who don't really care about quality in... well anything.
The exclusive deal that EA has for officially licensed sports games shouldn't be legal. Even on PS4 the games they release are full of gambling mechanics and abhorrent amounts of DLC.
They only get away with this business practices for two reasons:
1. Legacy brand awareness - even the most casual gamers know what EA is and know its been around for a long time - thus they assume they ship quality products
2. Because EA has no competition for most of its titles. Especially the sports titles. No other company can go out and make a football or NFL game with all the actual teams and players because EA is the only company with the "rights". It's a monopoly.
