The next episode of the anime to air in Japan, called Guzma the Undefeated!, will reportedly feature an announcement that could very well be worth your time. The news comes from Serebii, who says that the summary for the upcoming episode states that there "will be a major world exclusive announcement within the episode".
So, what is the big announcement? Well, at present, your guess is as good as ours. Whether it'll be linked to the anime, the upcoming Switch games, or something else entirely is unclear at the moment, but we'll make sure to keep an eye out for any news as it arrives. The episode will be airing on 1st September in Japan.
What do you think it could be? Or should we say, what do you hope it might be? Share your wildest hopes and dreams with us in the comments.

There goes my English street cred, but... what's "world exclusive"?🤔
Sword and Shield are delayed until next year <---joke
@nhSnork I really do not know... I guess the aliens in Area 51also have their own home planet and Nintendo knows about it.
Hence “the world” as in our world...
Probably the Sword and Shield anime announcement.
High quality animations
Sword and shield delay announcement please
Mini Pokemon Direct.
Another Pokémon Mobile Game maybe? Please not...
The announcement: Pikachu won't be in Sword & Shield due to developers not having time to animate all its 3 thousand variations.
Sad but true.
Probably a first trailer of the upcoming anime based on Sword and Shield. But I heard this anime will be very different from the others.
“World exclusive.”
Heh, sorry Mars. Earth only.
It will be an announcement for the next story arc, “The Death Of Pikachu” followed by “Pyre for a Pokémon” followed by “Reign of Team Rocket” and finally the conclusion “Rise from Ash”.
More like “Hey! Here’s some new Pokémon for Pokémon Go!”
They finally kill off Ash Ketchum.
Probably a new Pokémon that will be shown in the cartoon that we haven't seen yet from screenshots of Pokémon sword/shield. Maybe even a new mythical Pokémon.
Please don’t display said new Pokémon in the article thumbnail for those who don’t want almost every monster revealed before getting the game thank you.
@nhSnork @KoekiieWoekiie
Probably just Serebii being Serebii, he seems to often have typos and weird wording.
The line from the JP summary:
"世界最速!重大発表も!!"
"Also, an important announcement revealed for the first time worldwide!!"
Ash and Brock are gay. Calling it. S/
Complete National Pokédex, or I don't care.
@bluesun 世界最速 means "fastest in the world".
I'm starting to think this is all a mistranslation. There is no mention of any announcements on the actual next episode preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1zdvXLN04Q
Pretty sure since its the anime, its gonna be the first details on the Sword and Shield anime. Anyone will good memories might recall that the Sun and Moon anime was revealed during the Kalos League arc. So probably your usual "Oh Ash lost, boohoo, here's the next series of the anime you're gonna have to get used to for the next 3-4 years!").
I do hope they return to the format of Ash on a journey again. Sun and Moon was a change up, but now we need to go back to adventures in the region every week. Too early to call this but considering the region is based on the UK, it be nice if one or more of Ash's new BBFs had a British accent/voice actor for the dub. It probably won't be Scottish for the trainer girl like everyone wants but close enough. XD
But yeah, given how much of a change from Kalos to Alola was, I'm very curious to see what the transition this time's going to be like.
It's probably just gonna be a pile of sludge, or a bunch of eggs, or magnets, or some fat chick who's bruised all over.
I don't think that whatever they announce can excite me at all with how poor everything about SwSh was since June.
100$ says we will see one of the starters final evolutions
I heard that the current Pokemon anime is no longer in the top ten in Japan. Which is shocking since Japan is the least region I would think that would happen.
@SamusLv7 Well that's less about a drop in viewerbase, and more so on all of the recent anime that has been hyped up. One Piece just entered a new arc, then there's anime like Demon Slayer and Fire Force which have been hyped up a ton. It's just been a good season so far.
@RazumikhinPG
最速 fastest is being used here as in 'quickest to release', 'fastest-available'.
In English, a 'World's fastest announcement' obviously doesn't make any sense.
This is, I assume, how Serebii ended up with 'world exclusive' - if it's the first announcement of whatever it is, it's 'exclusive' to TXN.
There was nothing in the preview — but it was mentioned in the sponsor card immediately following the preview.
"Next time: An important announcement! Don't miss it!!"
The note about the announcement I mentioned is from TV Tokyo's website summary of the episode, which actually came out before last week's episode aired.
@bluesun I got it from the TV Tokyo website too, which is the only place it's mentioned. It's not on the official Pokemon website: https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/pokemon_sunmoon/episodes/
The sponsor card just mentions there will be a big announcement in the next episode. Nothing about worldwide anything. Sounds like it will just be a anime related announcement.
I still have no idea what they mean by "sekai saisoku" but my japanese knowledge is very limited.
wasn't a huge fan of sun/moon anime. I think it might be time for a reboot for Pokemon, get a nice fresh crisp anime closer to x & y series and start fresh with new people. Ash deserves a chance to grow up beyond 12, maybe you could have the new people fight ash, but go with a grown up version.
@RazumikhinPG
Eh, it's just marketing-speak in the end.
I've seen TV Tokyo's airings of movies labeled the 'world's first' TV airing even if the movie aired on CITV 8 months earlier... xD
@patbacknitro18 I see. Since I haven't watched the who animes are in top ten in a while, haven't know much of the new things 😅
Grand finale Disney ending. Ash evolves his Pikachu and catches Ho-oh.
@nhSnork Never seen before
OMG THEY'RE ANNOUNCING SNES GAMES DURING THE POKEMON ANIME
Sword and Shield anime confirmation seems likely. Probably revealing some new Pokemon too.
I'd guess at a mobile game announcement, but we've already had several of those recently so I doubt that. A spin off game announcement is possible or maybe a Pokemon Retro collection of the first 3 generations on Switch. Seems unlikely but I can dream.
I really hope it's not the delay that the haters are calling for, I'm looking forward to SwSh still quite a bit.
@dougphisig I didn't like the S/M style either. But they're never letting Ash age or replacing him. He is ageless like Shinichi/Conan in Detective Conan(Case Closed in the west) or like the Simpsons. You're never gonna see Bart Simpson grow up either. Ash and Pikachu will forever be the face of Pokemon just like how Mickey Mouse is the face of Disney.
That said though, I would very much like to see a return to the style of either XY or the 3rd gen anime.
boy I sure hope they listen to us and add the national dex!
@Bunkerneath hahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahahh
Sword and Shield will have the national dex /s
@MarioFan02 or finally made him a teenager
Hopefully, the Sword and Shield anime will have a better art style than the Sun and Moon one. It's awful.
And maybe it's time to retire Ash. Having him wobble back and forth between naive youngster and seasoned veteran is ridiculous.
I'll be so glad to leave the Sun/Moon anime behind, it's been the worst one so far for me, Unova's season gets a lot of hate but it was miles better than the last two seasons, i hope the next series returns to Ash catching more Pokemon, he's not even had a full team for the last two seasons, i really liked that he caught more in Unova and switched them out regularly, a return to this style would be very welcome.
Ash losing another league is not exactly a special announcement.
@Angelic_Lapras_King How about they actually make Ash win a league and end his cycle of failure? This is where X/Y failed and how it was ruined by the ending. So far Sun/Moon have no sign of fixing the problem.
@Dog Not that kind of anime.
Pokemon is an anime who's job it is to sell trading cards and videogames, not like say Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece etc. that while it has merch, its purpose is more about the story with a beginning, middle and end (Eventually in One Piece's case).
Pokemon's not going to have an end unless the ratings really tank or the Pokemon Company gets into money trouble, which given the recent live action movie deal won't happen anytime soon. Japanese kid shows like Doraemon, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider have been on the air for 40-50 years.
Its better to just enjoy it for what it is, a show with no conclusion, or move onto better anime that tell a complete story.
Well, announcement ended up leaking yesterday lol, so TV Tokyo weren't the first to announce it.
The announcement: "Pokémon Sun & Moon" is being replaced by the new series "Pokémon". New series "Pokémon" is apparently set to cover every region from Kanto to Galar. Full details to be revealed on the 29th.
@Angelic_Lapras_King
I seriously hope that today's announcement is actually going to end Ash's cycle of failure. But the cynic in me thinks this will be a spinoff series akin to Origins and Generations.
@Dog The anime start that way because the writers had no idea how successful the show was going to be and had intended it to go 1 season. Obviously, it blew up in popularity and carried on to this year, with not as many highly praised or remember episodes as Bye Bye Butterfree and Pikachu's Goodbye, but kids and older fans still watched. Can't exactly change Ash's motivation when its already been set in stone.
A lot of other shows have had downright crap episodes or seasons/periods, but no matter how much fans complain, they still show up every week a new episode airs. The only way they'll listen is vote with your wallet/viewership, which you currently do, but waaaaay more viewers have to do what you're doing and being a kids show with new kids being born and becoming new viewers, its not going to happen anytime soon unless a whole generation of kids just "doesnt get Pokemon".
