Have you been wanting to test out a new VR game with your Nintendo Labo Goggles? Then it might be worth taking a look at Spice and Wolf VR. It's coming to the Switch eShop next week on 5th September and will set you back $24.99 USD.
The game is based on the popular light novel series of the same name and is about a travelling merchant and woman who can transform into a wolf. During their travels, the pair are halted by a downpour, so they stop off at an old abandoned water mill in the woods. Here's the full description, courtesy of the Nintendo website:
Kraft Lawrence is a traveling merchant who meets Holo, a beautiful woman who can transform into a wolf. As they travel together they face many hardships, such as having to walk in the rain. In order to avoid the sudden downpour, Holo and Lawrence take shelter in an old, abandoned water mill in the woods. They huddle around a small fire and enjoy a slightly strange but relaxing time together. You are able to share that time together with them.
And here's a bit more about the actual gameplay (thanks, Gematsu):
In addition to the main mode, where you can enjoy anime within the virtual reality space, there’s also an “Interactive Mode” where you’re able to pat Holo on the head, pet her tail, and just have fun examining and moving other objects around the room. Please try it out and see how wonderful the feeling of being inside a 2D world can be, an experience unique to virtual reality animation!
The "Interactive Mode" mentioned above, will reportedly be limited within the Switch release. This mode allows the player to pet the wolf goddess and interact with items.
Is this a game you would be interested in trying out on Switch? Have you been craving more VR games? Tell us below.

,can't say I am too interested, though I did like spice and wolf.
Finally, a way to master my microeconomics skills.
Looks cute, haven't seen the anime though I've heard of it before
I desperately want more Labo VR compatible games, but this just isn’t for me. Here’s hoping this will open the door for more devs to support Labo compatibility! I’m hoping SUPERHOT will get Labo VR functionality...
Face hardships, such as having walk in the rain.
Gave me a chuckle this morning
I remember talking with friends about this anime. It's... not really what I'm interested in at the moment, but damn it's a cozy, heartwarming type of anime.
Cool, this may get me to finally buy Labo. But where’s season 3 of Spice and Wolf?
At least it’s not as sinister as some of the other games on Switch. Spice and Wolf was kinda heartwarming so I can see the appeal of patting an imaginary girl on the head... I think.
I'd love a Spice and Wolf visual novel or some kind of game that isn't VR. Spice and Wolf is a great anime that I really need to watch fully. I had an classmate in university that stinking loved the series like nothing else. Really surprised me because he wasn't much of an anime fan otherwise.
I am a huge Spice and Wolf fan but I have this on Steam and it is very very shallow and short.
@MH4 Same here! I’d even take some small games like sudoku or Picross. Phoenix Wright would have been neat with a layered effect.
Honestly... I feel however they utilize VR in this game, it will have already outdone everything Nintendo has done with VR yet, sadly.
They've obviously removed the suggestive themes & partial nudity as this game is rated Pegi 3. There's also a Steam release, although I don't own the VR gear.
A Spice and Wolf game sounds wonderful!
...Although I wasn't expecting VR. And it seems to focus more on simply spending time with Holo rather than all the merchantry and economics stuff that was going on in the anime. Holo looks younger than she did in the anime too.
Hmm, it sounds like a cute idea, but I'll probably give it a miss.
Especially if they're cutting out content. I thought Nintendo was already passed that?
Typically terribly named Japanese game. ‘Spice and Wolf’? Ooft. That’s awful.
Also, As they travel together they face many hardships, such as having to walk in the rain. is the most first world problem I’ve ever read.
Junk. Next!
@HappyMaskedGuy I read the manga based on the novel, the game seems to be based on an early scene where they're caught in a rain and discuss wheat trade while changing into dry clothes (really). The story itself is more about multiple mercantile plots and the duo figuring out how to profit from them. But they usually miss the big picture until they're in deep and have assassins, inquisitors or crooked merchants on their backs. The waifu part is more plot B or C.
"Spice" refers to spice trade and "wolf" is Holo.
Yes,finally!
The main characters got so much troubles in the story and solved them, the description makes them sound like lazy idiots.
Oh, there's an actual game in there!
A game that has a whole separate interactive mode (implying the MAIN mode isn't interactive) doesn't sound any fun at all.
@SmaggTheSmug
Too bad they didn't make a game with all those elements, that actually sounds interesting.
I can't believe the show is ten years old already...
@DDFawfulGuy, the removed/limited content is necessary due to the limitations of LABO VR (likely has to do with it's lack of head tracking), and not because they think the Nintendo version will sell less.
So none of the series's trademark adventures in economics? Even recreating something like that sounds more exciting than a boring simulator like this! This is a shallow stain on the name of the excellent "Spice and Wolf" light novel series!
@RR529
Oh, I see. Well if that's actually the case then that' s understandable.
I was a bit worried after seeing the post above mine.
Thanks for the heads up.
