The list of great Metroidvania games on the Nintendo Switch continues to grow. At the start of last month, we got Timespinner. It's a lovely little pixel-art title developed by the small team at Lunar Ray Games and is about a young woman who trains talented magical youth like herself until one day her mother is killed by the Emperor.
If you haven't had the opportunity to play the digital version of this game just yet, perhaps you can hold out for the physical release. Limited Run Games will be offering a two-week pre-order window for a hard copy from this Friday onwards. Here are the details:
"The Empire has taken everything I love... I will destroy them all!"
Timespinner, the critically-acclaimed Metroidvania from @LunarRayGames & @ChucklefishLTD, gets a physical Limited Run for the Switch and PS4!
This two-week pre-order window opens Friday, August 2 at 10am EDT.
In our review, we gave Timespinner eight out of ten stars and said it was another "top-notch Metroidvania" for the Switch that succeeds in using the popular genre as a vehicle for a genuinely intriguing science-fantasy tale that will motivate players to explore every inch of the fantastic game world.
Will you be adding this physical release to your collection? Tell us below.

Only 2 weeks huh? Why do they never line up with my paydays xD
This is interesting! I’ve been wanting to play this game but didn’t really want to pull the trigger; but with a physical copy I just may cave in. I’m already waiting for my physical copy of Transistor to come in the mail in October.
Ooh, I’m tempted with this one. I loved Timespinner on the Vita despite the slowdown so I might bite.
It was alright, I ain't double dipping on this one.
Well Limited run already got my money from the star wars games the past few weeks, but this one is tempting also..decisions
@Nerdfather1 I don't do LRG often but holy crap I have never hopped on something as quickly as I did the collector's edition for Transistor.
I wonder, are Metroidvanias the most common genre on Switch? If not then my guess would be Shmups or fighting games.
@ReaperExTenebris I wasn't complaining, I am just curious because it really does seem like they are the most common genres on the system.
Uh, I've been waiting so long for this. Definitely getting it. <3
Looks similar to Iconoclasts, I'm in..
Well fantastic, I loved this on Steam and was precisely waiting for a physical Switch release.
What surprises me if that this happened so soon after it launched on Switch, it can sometimes take a much, much longer time.
I have it on my watchlist awaiting a decent sale! Now I am torn
Good Me Vs Evil Me. Fight! Good Me - Don't do it, you already have Celeste & Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty pre-ordered from LRG, Ultracore & Vasara pre-ordered from Strictly Limited Games, Guacamalee Collection pre-ordered from Video Game Plus and Links Awakening Collectors Edition pre-ordered from Amazon. Your wallet, and backlog, can't take it anymore. You need to stop! Evil Me - Yeah, but one more won't hurt. Plus it does look very good and, the sucker punch, it does comes highly regarded by Nintendo Life themselves. Pleasssseee!!! Good Me - Arrgghh, you raise very good points godammit. (Throws in the towel and wallet) I. Am. Weak. You. Win. Victory Evil Me. Finish him!
@Heavyarms55: I WISH those were the most common genres on Switch, it seems jrpgs are the most common... BLECH! (IMO 😇)
Not a bad game, but that box art is absolutely terrible!
I would LIKE to get a hard copy of this one... but usually some prohibitive factor or another interferes, from outrageous prices to SOLD OUT before I knew it exhisted. And on principle I won't buy from scalpers. This whole "limited edition" game publishing thing is bull💩!
👎😠
@nin10dobot
When it comes to Switch or PS4 games on Limited Run Games, standard copies of the game have an open pre-order window of 2 weeks.
It's the collector's editions that sell out within minutes or an hour usually, and especially true of PS Vita games as these can only be produced in very small quantities due to manufacturing having ended.
To get a standard copy of Timespinner for the Switch will probably only cost $30 with shipping, and you have a lot of notice and time to pre-order it.
Wut is physical?
@Heavyarms55 there aren't a lot of games like Hollow Knight on Switch considering the fact that HK is so incredibly good. But, no, it isn't the most common genre. Switch has a wide variety of genres though.
@ReaperExTenebris Not sure why people seem to think I have anything against these genres being common, I don't. I just feel like we've gotten a lot of them on the Switch.
