It would appear that Nintendo of Europe has accidentally revealed the release date of the upcoming Version 4.0.0 patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Going on the game's update history, this would suggest that the release date for the next DLC character, The Hero, has also been revealed ahead of time.
Just hours ago, the US Nintendo Versus Twitter account announced a new video presentation to be hosted by series director Masahiro Sakurai. The presentation will reveal the release date for The Hero, give us more details on the character, and potentially provide more info on the upcoming Version 4.0.0 patch.
Even more recently (just over an hour ago at the time of writing), Nintendo of Europe's official channels also joined in on the action, sharing the same news. This time, however, a secondary tweet - which has since been deleted - appeared to reveal the release date for Version 4.0.0. We managed to grab a screenshot of the tweet below.

Version 2.0.0 introduced Piranha Plant as a playable character, and Version 3.0.0 introduced Joker. We can't confirm that The Hero will launch with Version 4.0.0, but as you can see from past updates, it seems extremely likely.
So, will we be seeing both The Hero and the new version update on 31st July? Share your current hype levels in the comments below.

Suspicious...don't believe everything.
Yeeehaw! Just bought the Fighters Pass yesterday and busy playing with Joker. Would be nice to get another new character on the 31th!
Seems like this is definitely it - there was a small chance that 4.0 might not have come on the same day as The Hero but the fact that they’ve now deleted the tweet pretty much confirms it!
I am not a smash fan but anyone who is must be over the moon with THE incredible content it has got! I think it is amazing just how much they have given to this game and to the fans. Nintendo pulled out all the stops for the Smash community and I think that is wonderful.
I can only wish for the same treatment to Mario Kart which got some DLC but then nothing further. Perhaps the next version will get this level of content
lol numpties. Love a good slip-up like this. Hope no one gets in any trouble though...
Also, I've got zero levels of excitement for this anyway.
Whoopsie, well done Nintendo Europe.
Still will not be playing Smash again until Banjo turns up to be honest.
What I want to know is what the Gift feature in the specials menu is. We haven't received a single thing in the Gift menu, and the game has almost been out for a year now. Hopefully, we finally get to see what that'll be used for in the 4.0 update.
I hope there's a new mode included! I would go nuts if Smash Run were in...More likely to be Home Run Contest though.
@Patendo Got all the veterans back to patch up the gaping voids in the amiibo collection, the new default fighters, and Banjo-Kazooie are almost here - it's been a truly fun game experience! Gameplay/single player might need some revitalization (strong case for it) and the franchise might even need rebooting (debatable), but it still just can't be beat!
@patbacknitro18 We have. That's how the Partner Pikachu and Partner Eevee spirits were originally given out.
I dont have either of the Let's Go games, but I read that was the case.
@Giygas_95 Smash Run will most likely not be returning due to how much effort would need to go into it, when Sakurai already has enough on his plate creating the new characters, stages, etc. Home Run contest is almost certain at this point as it was datamined alongside Stagebuilder.
@patbacknitro18 A man can dream...
Joker was released the day after his presentation and there's one confirmed for the Hero the day before this supposed release date... It makes sense.
I can't afford the DLC, but it's always nice seeing new content coming to the game. Hope they introduce more than The Hero (new modes, minigames, or something), for people who doesn't have the DLC to enjoy.
Well, I lost. Thought he'd be released mid-August, before Link's Awakening.
@Giygas_95 Smash Run is all I need to make Ultimate 100% perfect.
Anyway, why delete it? Is it really so important to not reveal a release date if it's 2 days earlier? Jeez
@MH4 Absolutely. I just want a good single player mode with high replayability. World of Light and Classic mode ain't it. I wish Classic mode were randomized.
Nice, definitely more excited for this than Banjo since I never really played the banjo games on 64.
@Giygas_95 Themed Classic Modes are a good idea, but I agree that there should’ve at least been a randomized option. Random fights, bosses, or maybe even the option to tackle a different character’s route (like maybe playing Inkling’s Classic route as Joker or something).
I like what Smash 3DS’ Classic Mode did with the paths, where there were different paths of difficulty you could select.
We will find out tomorrow I guess
@MH4 Yeah, I had hoped that completing all the Classic routes might unlock the option to do each one with different characters, but that didn't happen.
@patbacknitro18
It’s used to get game specific spirits used from game saves. Lets go Pikachu and Eevee we’re both gift spirits.
"accidental" tweet leads to viral news fervor "coincidentally" decreasing the cost of advertising.
NintendoMx account also revealed the date, but it says it arrives in 7 days so...

@Bliquid Oh yes, let's forget the several times Sakurai has been hospitalized from working on Smash. To the point that he had to wear an IV drip during some of Smash Ultimates development. When the man is literally working himself to death, do you even have to question why fans would be concerned for his well being? Also, Sakurai is working mostly alone. Sure during Smash Ultimates development, he had a much larger team of people helping, but with the DLC he has cut down the development team considerably. Also you act as if adding in Smash Run wouldn't be a difficult task, when you have to factor in every element of Smash Run. All of the enemies, the stat boosts, mini games, world layout, etc. It's a mode that would require a ton of effort put into making it work, alongside Sakurai already having to add in the DLC characters.
once again another mistake with release dates.
is it just me or is nintendo enjoy yelling out a release date for games for fun?
didn't the last update come before Joker? 4.0 may arrive before the Hero does
Nintendo did another oopsie.
Isn't this the third time Nintendo slipped up on SSBU upcoming content?
@Mando44646 No, Joker was part of the 3.0 update
