To kick-off its 2019 E3 press conference, Bethesda announced the free-to-play mobile title The Elder Scrolls: Blades would be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
This version will also be free and will include motion controls, cross-play and cross-progression support - meaning you can swap between the Switch and mobile version. Here's the trailer and Twitter announcement:
This first-person action RPG was released earlier this year on Android and iOS. On the Switch, you'll be able to play the game in either docked, tablet or handheld mode.

No thanks, that game I garbage. They set up thinks to be hyper predatory and get you to spend money.
That said, I DO like elder scrolls.
Hooray, an Elder Scrolls game that actually manages to be worse than Redguard!
Ughhhhhhh. The heartbreak was when they said it’s “the perfect game for Switch”. So the perfect game is a F2P mobile. Great.
Then they went on to apologize for Fallout 76 by not only putting single player content in like a typical fallout, but adding a battle royale. Then moved on. I’m a little salty 😂
Free to play? Pass. That means it is pay to win. Either with actual money, or huge demands on your time.
I'd be happy to throw money at Bethesda. Give me Fallout 3 and New Vegas in a combo pack on Switch. I'll throw money right at you.
But I am not getting sucked into a Free to Play mess.
But does it have 16 times the detail of Fallout 4?
Cool, always great to have more options.
Commander Keen is returning.... as a mobile game.
@Galarian_Lassie Just saw that. This is terrible. I’m happy for folks that will enjoy these, but not me 😭
LOL....No thanks.
It was honestly a pretty bad mobile game (my opinion, maybe not yours) so I have no reason to waste my Switch’s precious storage space on this.
I'd much rather throw money at Bethesda for a good Oblivion port on Switch.
Hmm I’ll give it a go.
"We at Bethesda, just like you, love mobile games"
LOL, nice joke Bethesda
@Galarian_Lassie As the 5 plants in the audience applaud 😂😂😂
@Heavyarms55 F2P =/= P2W, believe it or not.
I tried this game for a bit and it was awful. I would say almost every game is alright on Switch, but not this one. This is Bethesda’s smelly garbage they are just leaving on Switch’s doorstep.
I will slash my storage space on something more worthwhile
I wonder what all this Orion talk is leading up to...
It's Doom on a phone!
Now after all that Orion talk, now it's Doom Eternal!
@nessisonett Aw, I loved Redguard
@Galarian_Lassie : Oh, dear God... NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!
Commander Keen is my absolutely favourite series of side-scrollers of all time and this abomination is worse than I ever could have imagined.
It makes the GBC game look canon.
Doom Eternal is being released November 22nd! Along with a collector's edition.
And now after showing off Doom's Battle Mode, the Bethesda show is (pretty much) over. Pretty underwhelming show.
@Galarian_Lassie Is Switching getting the collector's edition, too?
@Nintendofan83
Wasn't mentioned.
I'll try it, seems cool.
Not really excited for this ,but it free. Still know one game were likely getting next year on switch
A lame phone game , no thanks
The constant screams at Bethesda video games presentation felt like I was watching an American sitcom with pre recorded audience.
Garbage mobile game. Move along.
Not touching their bug filled messes any more.
You can't look me in the eyes after all these years and tell me Bethesda cares about the legacy of that Commander Keen, which is frustrating as a fan of the OS. I can't remember the last time I saw an IP so mishandled. I'd rather they made NOTHING than ruin the Keen name.
This is one mobile game I wholeheartedly welcome too the Switch. I'm sure it'll look and play great and more Elder Scrolls is never a bad thing.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can't stand the mobile controls at all.
I fell like i'll enjoy this game more with a regular control scheme
😂😂🤣🤔🤣🤔🤣😂🔝😂
Hahah serieus tho, a mobile game, perfect for switch? Wow
@Galarian_Lassie
And is it 4 times the size of Fallout 4?
@Reignmaker Aww, it does have a certain charm but I can’t forgive those controls and general direction. It’s still better than the abomination that is Blades.
The guys in the audience screaming at every word said were seriously getting on my nerves on this Bethesda conference lol Maybe it's because i'm a reserved, awkward Brit, but it was way OTT
Why must you do this to us Bethesda, all we want is a Fallout 4 port.
Well I didn’t expect this at all.
With Bethesda, a massive catalog of games and series at their disposal and all they can come up with is a port for a terrible mobile game. I'm disappointed, I didn't expect the new Skyrim, but Jesus, I expected something to show some faith in the console.
It is a joke that this game is coming to The Switch.
So people want Fallout 3 and New Vegas, maybe Oblivion and NOBODY wants Blades so of course we get Blades!
This game is a terrible, predatory cash grab. The loot system, and the controls are awful. Unless its heavily retooled, no thanks.
They always make the weirdest musical choices for their trailers. Mess.
No thanks. They could've released Obivion IV from PC or Xbox 360 port game of the year edition. Would've been a better game to give us. Well sigh. I'll stick to my PC version
@Zuljaras exactly. Oblivion would've been a better choice. They gave an easy just hack/slash version of elder scrolls... boring
A terrible free mobile game is the perfect game for the Switch LOL
This or legacy Fifa...
The support for Switch is terrible..
@MsJubilee Granted, despite the name, Blades isn’t exactly cutting edge. But remember, they’re also bringing Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein Youngblood to Switch. So it isn’t all bad.
@Edu23XWiiU it’s really not cool, unfortunately
@koekiemonster How can you say the support for Switch terrible when we are getting both Wolfenstein and Doom Eternal day and date with the other systems?
this game is utter garbage, i really dont get your excitement
Great another mobile game port, brilliant <---sarcasm
Watch any video on this game and you can see it's complete garbage and this should be mentioned in the article
Meh. While I've not played this current Elder Scrolls game (can you even, isn't it in a closed beta?) I assume as it's mobile that it's a loot based, free to play / pay to win style game. The game play looks janky and not free roaming like Skyrim - I'm very confused by it. It doesn't look appealing at all.
"And it's free!"
On the surface, yeah.
When I read that it is free I already stop reading. Ha ha, imagine there would be a publisher giving games for free just because they love us so much! Unfortunately that's not how a healthy economy works. "Free" means gems, period.
Why is Liam so excited it's a game no one wanted or cares about. Might of been ok if it was half decent but it's garbage, but suppose it's still better than fallout 76
Calling this complete garbage is all a matter of opinion and not a fact, albeit a very popular opinion. At least they're showing support for the switch, as opposed to what they did for the WiiU. No one likes micro-transactions or anything, but thousands upon thousands of hours go into making these games and to offer it for free is a gift.
If I like the game, I might be willing to pay something to go towards development costs, but only within reason. If I don't like it, no one's forcing me.
@Highlar seriously? Of thousands and thousands of games they got two games in the lowest resolution day and date and that makes you happy?
Good to have low expectations, but I expect more. Even Vita got better support.... pff
I tried to like Skyrim. When you’re used to zelda that combat is awful. I’ve no idea what this new game is.
"Free to play mobile title."
Pass.
Huh, at least it will be something new to play until the micro-transactions become overbearing. Given the comments above, I might get a good 15-30 minutes out of it. Given that Paladins is probably my most played game on the system, I don't necessarily have anything against F2P models. The issue is when they skew the balance to favor spending money to get past unentertaining grinds.
Being free is still too much
What about The Elder Scrolls: Legends?
It's a crap game. No open world, no sense of exploration ! Which is what the elder scrolls games did great.
It doesn't particular great to me, but I do like the inclusion of motion controls. That does make me a little more interested.
@konbinilife seems everybody who has played agrees it's not great. But I will say it looks quite nice. If you played on a decent tablet the game is very pleasant to look at.
It just doesn't feel like an elder scrolls game. Too narrow and shallow, with standard mobile free2play gimmicks.
I tried it on my phone when it was first released, and while the graphics are gorgeous, and the performance is outstanding (at least on a Pixel 3), the actual gameplay is pretty dull. It's essentially an on-the-rails hack-n-slash and doesn't have the wide open freedom you expect from an Elder Scrolls game.
@luke88 Still, I'm downloading it, just to try it, maybe I'll like it.
I'm gonna try it out when it's available but I won't be expecting much from it.
I’m going to try it; it looks fun for a minute.
@nessisonett Based on the applause all over the place even during things that most people were not happy with I felt like the entire audience was a plant!
Oh joy I've always wanted to wait 5 hours to open a chest. Mobile games on Switch make me sick...
