McDonald's restaurants in Japan are set to release brand new Splatoon 2 Happy Meals next week, and we're not jealous at all.
Starting from 14th June, lucky visitors will be able to get their hands on McDonald’s Happy Meals based on Nintendo's cool and colourful online shooter. The meals come with one of five different colouring pages for young ones (or older ones) to enjoy, as well as the usual portions of food, of course.
You can see all of the different designs below and - if you haven't already - you can watch a Japanese TV commercial advertising the new partnership above.
Nintendo Happy Meals have made their way westwards on numerous occasions in the past, often with cool little figures and toys, so at least we're not missing out too much this time.
Dinner time would be more fun with some Splatoon colouring, though. Oh well.

And the Hamburger will have Squid patty inside with colorful ink sauce. 😂
It called Rainbow Patty.
It’s not gonna be fresh
Soooooooo... There HAS to be some Splatoon2 announcement at E3, right? Between the balance patches, the tournament, and this, Nintendo's putting way too much promotion into a game that supposedly has 1 Splatfest left before they drop support.
Also, I'm kinda glad it's a little coloring book, because if they got physical figurines, I'd end up having to drop a bunch of money to have them imported. It's cheaper on my wallet this way.
EDIT: Well, we got the E3 announcement alright, but not really the announcement I was hoping for. Still hyped, tho
I refuse to eat McDonald's anymore. I kept having the same problem every time I had it, no matter which one I went to. It might as well be a salty laxative!
For a couple years I would try it, hate myself after, give it a couple months and try again to see if the problem repeated. But no, NEVER AGAIN.
That said, Splatoon 2 is still super popular here. So, good marketing idea. And it does seem like they might be planning a Splatoon 2 announcement if they are doing the McDonald's thing now.
@Heavyarms55
Are you having same problem with your stomach with other fast food restaurant such as Burger King / Carls Jr. ?
They are still yummy but better eat them rarely.
@Heavyarms55 I'm the same way. I used to eat at McD's regularly, then I stopped eating fast food altogether for about a year. When I tried to eat a Big Mac again for the first time, my body sent me a message loud and clear that it doesn't do McDonalds anymore, and hosted its own Splatfest in my lower digestive system.
Excited to see this relatively new IP make its way into McDonald's squid's meals!
...I'll see myself out on that one.
@Anti-Matter Oh man I love me some Carl's Jr.
Anyone want to go to Japan to get a Happy Meal?
@Heavyarms55 I only go to mcdonalds if a very specific set of circumstances.
1. Must be Sunday (chick-fil-a is closed that day)
2. Must be in the car at lunch
3. Must be no better options
I don't like them because they don't have a chicken sandwich
Oh thank heavens it's only colouring pages; my wallet was worried for a moment.
@Not-Geno It's the only decent burger/sandwich they have over here. But I generally try to avoid any fast food place.
@Desrever @Heavyarms55 No matter how much of it I used to eat, it'd just come out the other end. My metabolism's always been wicked fast, which is perhaps a blessing as my body's probably really good at rejecting toxins (cough junk food), hence why they have no effect on me (at least as far as my previous efforts to fatten myself are concerned).
The only time I would eat Macca's (as it is colloquially known in Australia) is if it's past midnight and I have no other options for a quick nibble. That rare exception aside, I too have (for the most part) given up on fast food and soft drinks. As bad as it is, I confess that I do enjoy (and simultaneously hate myself) for enjoying it on those occasions for old time's sake.
Can we get fat Inklings and Octolings?
@Desrever could be they’re just trying to market the game in the wake of fortnite
@Not-Geno I’d probably rather starve. Or stop by a supermarket and by something
You would expect some figurines. But nope, just coloring books...
@Not-Geno
Oh! In the UK, McDonald's do a "McChicken Sandwich". I had always assumed it would be a worldwide thing.
I was thinking about Nintendo announcing a Splatoon spin off game for 2020. This is further proof
@LetsGoSwitch For a while I've fantasized that a Splatoon Tactics, similar to Mario + Rabbids, would be awesome.
@Octane Do you mean here as in The Netherlands?
Why must you make us suffer Japan?
That's kind of cruel, promoting a game a month before you're about to stop supporting it.
Japan, I'm on my way.
@Silly_G @Anti-Matter I don't have the issue with any other fast food. It's McDonald's in particular that does it to me. McDonald's doesn't give me a choice, it's like laxative, if I eat it, I'm going, there is no waiting.
@Ooyah It's worldwide but at least to me, It's terrible
