Following on from Capcom's May announcement, it has now been confirmed Devil May Cry will be arriving on the Switch eShop in Japan, Europe and Australia next week.
The title is due out on 25th June locally and will be released a few days later on 27th June in Japan. The Switch eShop exclusive requires a massive 9.2GB of free space and will cost ¥1,990 / £15.99 / $29.95 (about $20.00 for the US).
More details regarding the price and release date of the North American release are expected to be revealed soon.

20$ for a Ps2 game is WAY too much. 10$ at most should be the price. Now I'd pay 20$ if it was physical. But we all know Capcom with physical, lol.
Well at least it isn't $30 like the RE titles.
I may pick it this up even though I have the HD collection on PC.
@Morrow Gotta pay that switch tax.
@Morrow Naw I wouldn't mind that price point for a PS2 era game - if it was one I liked. Not interested in Devil May Cry though.
I'm fine with this price, so I'll make sure to pick it up, but I don't get the size since the HD collection on PS4 is about 12 gigs all together
I finished the first one on PS3 but I was told by basically everyone to skip 2 and go straight to 3 but unfortunately it doesn’t support the DS4 so I’m out of luck. Looks like I’ll have to get the PS4 version or a DS3.
Yeah...I won't be picking this up. Cost too much just for convenience of portability. If it was the HD collection then maybe.
@Kalmaro Right? Lol
Never played a devil May cry game and I was slightly dissaponted with the re ports because of price, it being digital only etc. Not to mention I was kind of frustrated going back to the archaic way of saving with ink ribbons. Granted i beat re years ago. Going back to it was not fun. Does anyone know how devil May cry will be able to be saved? Quick saves possible?
Edit: on second thought id rather grab bloodstained instead
@Heavyarms55 If it was an RPG it would be worth it. But this is a short action game that has been ported many times. If this was the DMC collection, it would be worth 20$, but DMC 1 by itself, isn't.
@Morrow I'm still floored by Ni No Kuni on Switch being $50. Loved the little I played on the PS3....but it's still a PS3 game.
Even the remaster with upgraded visuals on the PS4 should be $40 max.
Or just wait till the next time the trilogy collection is discounted on PS360, often for under £4.
The article asks if I’m picking this up for the massive file size at the price it is for the game that it is. My answer: NOPE.
@Morrow Ehh I understand where you are coming from. But for me, since this game doesn't interest me, I wouldn't pay $1 for it. However in general I think, if it were a game I liked, I would pay $20 for a game of from that generation of consoles. There are plenty of Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox titles I'd be interested in playing again, on the Switch.
I don't know if I would pay as much for the same titles on PC however, because the convenience factor isn't there.
@LOGICWINS I'd pay 50 for Ni No Kuni 2, but yeah, 1 should be 39.99.
Yeah, I'm interested in this. I wonder if it's got a huge file size to help loading times be quicker? Like less compression? Maybe also high quality audio throughout the game, unlike Dark Souls? It would also be great to have a physical release of this.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, I get that. Same way with me and animal crossing or GTA. I wouldn't take keep those games even if someone gave them to me.
True.
Og Xbox -Dino Crisis 3 and Conker Live and Reloaded
Gamecube-Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online 1 episode 1-3
Are the titles I'd like to see from them
They should include dmc 1,2 and 3 on a PHYSICAL cart then MAYBE it worths the price.
@Morrow I literally don't have the time right now to list off all the titles I would want. XD
So DMC costs twice as much as it should, and for some reason it is 9.2 GB in size when the entire DMC collection on PS4 was 12 GB.
lolololol
$20 is fine and it gives them some wiggle room when they eventually discount it.
I played the Hell out of it on PS2 (pun intended) and once on the 360, and I'll STILL show some love to enjoy it on the Switch. Bring it on!!!
@NintendoByNature I would hesitate to recommend this game because of the price and the fact that later games in the series improved the formula. It’s a good game, but the camera in this first DMC game and the 2nd is positioned so you often are slashing away at enemies offscreen.
Hopefully the Switch can get 3, which is my favorite. 5 is great as well but let’s face it, Capcom has little interest in porting over new games to Switch. That may change later but for now that’s where we are at.
Astral Chain looks great though and is only 2 months away!
Can get the entire collection for $21 On PS4 - and read a book on the bus.
Better use of Time and money 🙄
Capcom should release Viewtiful Joe 1&2 for switch. I’d probably pay $20 to play and replay those on the go
The file size is actually putting me off more than the price!
£16 for a game that I have on PS2, I don't think so. If it was 1 & 2 i might have thought of it, but ah well
Gah, I really wish this was getting a physical release.
I picked up the PS3 collection for 4 quid a few months ago.
It does seem expensive for just one game when the collection is available elsewhere, but it’s a great game and will go on sale I’m sure.
Ni No Kuni is a huge game and I love Ghibli, I’ve really wanted the Switch version. That will be day 1 for me. I’d prefer if it was cheaper but I won’t want to wait for a sale. So value can be a personal preference I suppose.
@Heavyarms55 Fair enough, lol. I just listed my most desired xD
Physical copy of the entire HD trilogy with all 3 games on the card. Why even bother this just releasing the first game digitally?
I do not pay for Capcom games without physical.
I love the series, but Capcom is high, for thirty (US) you get all three original PS2 games on four,
maybe five other platforms.
I’m going to buy a ps2 and a copy of devil may cry for $20 or less to highlight the craziness of that price.
@NintendoByNature it is a great game, but it definitely feels like a game from 2001 you know? It also founded this sub genre of hack and slash, and while there is something to be said about that, it also means tons of games have out done it in the combat department. Unlike DMC3, the first to me, seems more suited to hardcore and the nostalgia crowds.
9.2GB is massive?
It isn't massive. And if it was: I prefer a bigger file size over crappy compressed audio
I will pay 30 EUR.
For the whole trilogy, remastered, on a fricking cart.
This will go on my wishlist and sit there until 50% sale, for nostalgic reasons...
or maybe they release a physical collection later, testing the waters now?
We have to support the thirds when they do it correctly. This is CLEARLY not the case. Tipical Crapcom behaviour.
I like the game, it'd be nice to play it on the go, but being only the first one at that price and with that file size, it's definitely a NOPE.
@Wavey84 I actually enjoy playing bad games, if there is a good sequel. It makes me appreciate the improvements and often some obvious design choices are skipped because they don't want to repeat themselves.
sigh
I called it unfortunately. This is CAPCOM at their laziest and to pay a premium just because it's a switch release is a joke. Especially as it's digital only. No physical cartridge release to up the digital price.
Ehhh.... No Thanks.
@LOGICWINS that is quite a bit more than it should be but the again Nintendo do exactly the same with their Wii U games
£15 is cheap for a game of this quality. Much better than RE price point. Would have liked trilogy at £30 on a cart but tempted to pick this up even if it does finally get a physical release.
I will wait for the sale.
Funny how people complain about the prices, though not cheap all the ports of classic AAA games, real full games from real developers are all worth buying for me. I wish there where more ports. But I only buy "full" games. Yay to buying the same games 2 or 3 times on different ports, including the original full price releases.
Yay, finally Capcom brought Devil May Cry V to t... oh, they still are not in a hurry to port their newest outing and RE2 Remake to the Switch, despite the Switch even able to handle Witcher 3 now... guess I won't buy this one...
I will get it to add to Onimusha. Just wish Res1 and 0 were cheaper as I'd love to play them on the go. Already own them on ps4 but would pay £20 for both, not 30 each
@Dustopolis @NotTelevision thanks guys I'm going to wait for a Good sale to try it out. Got alot of stuff to play at the moment anyway.
$20 for this, or $10 on Xbox for the trilogy (it's on sale every month, I swear)
hmm
$20 for a nearly 20 year old game?
@Lemmy_the_Koopa I really don't think Switch can handle the RE2 engine, but I'd like to be proven wrong
@XBontendo Well if that is the case, Switch owners won't see a lot of new games from Capcom as the reportedly said that they want to use this engine for more games... Not gonna cry over spilled milk, but also not gonna support them with my cash if they can't be bothered to make the effort.
I don't think Capcom will be loosing any sleep over my personal decision, given by the success of those titles.
There can always be the chance for dedicated titles, but given the onslaught of ports so far I am not holding my breath there.
While I do lament not being in a situation to play those titles, I would also admit that other companies give me cool experiences and Astral Chain at least will probably scratch the DmC itch, the same goes for the still upcoming Bayo 3.
@Morrow remastered from the U.S. collection same one that's on ps4.
And just like Onimusha, I will backlog it and wait for a hard sale. Good thing I have millions of other things to play as I wait.
@LOGICWINS
Even the remaster with upgraded visuals on the PS4 should be $40 max.
What upgraded visuals? Ni No Kuni Remastered isn't "remastered" at all. It's literally the exact same version Switch is getting, but running at higher res and framerate. Which, that's a given for any game.
Its enough for them to slap "remastered" on the box though, and naturally, without it there's nothing left to leverage to call it remastered.
@Agramonte
Or you could play games on the bus, at work, at your brother's house, the hotel, back porch and anywhere else on the planet you want, and just watch movies at home.
Better use of time and money.
Or better yet, dont play video games at all and just read books the rest of your life. Then you'll really be saving money.
Or maybe... that money is worth less to you than playing games. Be it home or anywhere else. And maybe, saving a few bucks but being restricted to only playing games in one particular place isn't worth it at all. Getting handheld + console versions double the value of any game. Maybe it's better to spend $20 on a game you can play anywhere than $10 for a game you can only play in one spot, and if you're REALLY cheap, just wait for a sale. If you waited several years for the other versions to go on sale, you can wait a few more months for the Switch version to drop. Then you get a low price AND double the value.
@Morrow It's a Capcom game, it's one only a matter of time until it's on sale for half price, so at least there is that.
@JaxonH Yes, to all the combos. It is the Mobile Age, tons of options.
Nop, We been able to read a book or watch movies on the couch, toilet, plane, bus, or even underwater for ages now. Always follows the same rule - what we read and watch in those situations still needs to be worth the investment. Videogames are no different.
And not about "saving money", in the end can cost more - yet be more worth the time and money.
Sure, wait for a sale. Same concept as getting the HD Collection for home and watching Crunchyroll on the bus. They picking an option that makes it worth playing.
@nab1 True. Since it's digital only, it loses a lot of value to me, so I might just buy it when it's like 5$.
@Slim1999 It's still a ps2 game though. Remastered use the same engine, just clean it up by making it less pixelated. Also, it may be from the collection, but it ISNT the collection. It's just DMC 1 for 20$. No thanks, lol.
Other consoles get the collection in Hd and we just get the original game? I’m not supporting Capcom’s lazy cash grab. Either pony up with the whole saga or flock off - this is the same scenario as when BioWare released only Mass Effect 3 and the other consoles got the trilogy.
I’ll stick to Bayo for my hack n’ slash itch, and I’m happily looking forward to supporting Platinum with Astral Chain.
should be 3 if its going to cost that much.
The real question is why the file size is 9.2gb almost as large as the collection itself which is around 12gb? Does this mean Capcom is also throwing in more extras and unlockables in the game or maybe make the port look awesome and ran more smoothly on the Switch on both modes? It's a strange facts that we probably won't know until we try it and test it for ourselves.
why is this one game almost the same price of the entire HD Collection on PS4, Xbox One and Steam
better yet why does it take up almost as much memory space as the HD Collection does on Steam in general
too expensive. Hard pass.
@BlueBlur101 That's what I'm saying LOL. It's a terrible deal. Capcom being Capcom again.
@BlueBlur101 why does it matter? They can price it anything they want and people will decide whether it's worth to them or not. That's how it works. If you paid for it it was worth to you more than the price you paid. So it's either worth to you because it's on the Switch with all the Switch advantages, or it's not. As long as Capcom doesn't whine that "sales are bad on a Nintendo console" like some crappy developers did in the past, then it doesn't matter. If it doesn't sell enough, there will be a sale like people said etc.
@dumedum I have no problem with DMC coming to Switch, but if there already exists a superior version of the game, or a collection of all 3 mainline games for other platforms I find it baffling that Capcom is still "testing the waters" with their franchises after the sales of Ultra Street Fighter II, the Mega Man Legacy Collections and MM11, the Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle, Okami HD, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, not to mention Resi Revelations 1 & 2, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4 and the upcoming releases of Resident Evil 5 and 6, as well as technically the cloud version of Resi 7 in Japan.
I'm not saying it is wrong to just want the first game, but it feels like a slightly backhanded effort from Capcom given their emphasis on supporting the Switch with a mix of remasters and legacy content in the form of collections. Why does DMC get excluded? Especially since it's a franchise people have wanted to debut on Nintendo platforms for years, going as far as to even request Dante as a playable Smash fighter, myself included.
Just my two cents tho.
@BlueBlur101 you are right on that front.
