One slightly underrated fighting game on the Switch is Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. When the title made its debut on the eShop back in March, it arrived with a limited amount of content. Since then, nWay has made a serious effort to add more to the game.
The latest update – out now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and "coming soon" to the Nintendo Switch – adds three new characters, four new stages, and a brand new story mode with along with new voiceovers by the original cast. Below is more information about the story and new voice-over work:
"Gamers can now play through an epic storyline written and voice directed by writer/director Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid, Nightwing, Batman: Gates of Gotham). The mode also features original artwork by Eisner Award-winning illustrator Dan Mora (Go Go Power Rangers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Klaus). In this new mode, players experience a re-imagining of the critically acclaimed Shattered Grid event from Boom! Studios’ Power Rangers comic book series. When Lord Drakkon, an evil alternate version of Tommy Oliver, sets off a massive campaign across time and space to destroy all Power Rangers, they must band together and fight back, before all of existence falls to his armies."
The new content includes story and combat voiceovers performed by original Power Rangers cast members, including Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver), Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott), David J. Fielding (Zordon), Kerrigan Mahan (Goldar) and Meghan “Strawburry17” Camarena (Kimberly).
The characters, as previously announced, include Dragon Armour Trini, Udonna and Cenozoic Blue Ranger. Take a look at each one here. The new arenas include two new selectable ones: Corinth, Planet Earth: Cenozoic Era and the non-selectable arenas (exclusive to story mode) are Command Center (Malfunctioning) and Lord Drakkon's Throne Room (Flashback).

I thought the Switch update wasn't available until after Golden Week in Japan?
Mine isnt updating. Tried a few times the past few hours. Really wanted to dig into this. Oh well, back to DD and MK11.
Edit: Checked their Twitter, and it says Switch update is coming soon. No timeframe.
@PhilKenSebben I've added that in.
Great that they're adding free content like this but a shame they're gonna be stuck with those first week reviews for life.
They really could not of held out a bit longer till this Story Mode was done?
I was never allowed to watch Power Rangers as a kid because it was too violent.
Instead I was allowed to watch Dragon Ball and DBZ because those are "cartoons".
I'm not even joking.
Did Rita merge Finster with Alpha 5 or something, who is this Finster 5 in the Story Mode?
@Angelic_Lapras_King I don't personally think it matters or will harm them. It was common knowledge when this launched that it would be something that would be continually built upon. Much like Fighting Layer EX it will get updated and refined and the roster will grow and grow. The core gameplay at launch was fine and that is was matters.
This looks great!
I'll just wait till their done updating it with free and paid dlc and hopefully release a complete edition or something. It's getting depressing seeing more and more fighters getting released like an average EA game.
i'm playing through the story on PS4 and it's not bad actually (although they say original cast then say Kimberly is played by Meghan “Strawburry17” Camarena, she is good but she is NOT the original Kimberly)
one small issue though is that there are characters in the story mode that are not playable in the game (Time Force Pink, Samurai Red for example) but maybe they will be added later
but for a story mode in a budget game it's well worth it AND while the are just images in the cutscenes the art is great to look at
plus it's nice to actually hear the characters say something in battle now (although i think some of the characters such as the Magna Defender are ripped audio from the show but it still works)
and the Corinth map is pretty good, it has a Giant Goldar and the S.P.D Megazord fighting in the background
It pains me as a lifelong fan of the series that I'm still skipping this title until a complete version of it is available. Smash had tons of content even without dlc so when dlc did roll around you had already experienced the majority of the game. This however is dlc the game! With such a small roster available at the start it's going to turn ho hum fast. With over 20 seasons of the show to have less than 10 available characters?! What were they thinking?
@GameOtaku while i do agree with you especially about the character selection i don't think comparing this to smash is fair, smash was a full £50 AAA release while this is a budget £15 one (or just over £30 if you brought the season pass too)
@FullbringIchigo
When the price of all dlc is going to equal the same price as smash I'm sure you'll agree. Even then that's hardly an excuse for the lack of content in a 3V3 fighter. Look at Cross Tag Battle tons of content in the base game (story mode, arcade, online, characters) it was 2 on 2 don't forget. How often will you in this game will you battle the same characters?!
@GameOtaku you do fight the same characters quite often i will admit, especially in Arcade mode
but your right it definitely needs more characters
my guess is they wanted to release before MK11 because they knew if it released after it wouldn't sell so they shipped it unfinished but IF they carry on like they have with the free updates, characters and stages i'm sure it will one day be worth it which is why i took the punt
of course i still feel that if this is all we get at £15 then it's still worth it
Well, the game grows ever closer to being worth purchasing. Corinth was probably my favorite location in the whole series, so that's a nice pick for arena. If we see Time Pink (seems inevitable) and one other of my favorites get added, I'll probably end up buying it.
Devs add "Free updates" to a half finished game. Why, Thank you, Sir!
@Heavyarms55 Interesting heheh
Downloading the update now @liamdoolan
