Smash Bros and Splatoon 2 are close to 3 Million!
Wait, Doraemon games already released on Nintendo Switch ??
Edit:
Ah, Never mind.
The game looks mediocre even on Nintendo Switch.
Typical Doraemon games.....
Both Smash and Splatoon seem like they’ll hit the three million mark before long. I don’t recall ever seeing any console games on this list hit that number in Japan. Does anyone know the last game to sell those kind of numbers?
I guess there is still a small market for 3DS, I didn't even know that those things were still selling.
Dead or Alive 6 - Square Enix? Since when?
Also, people need to stop buying games like that. Base game (digital, via PSN Store) €69,99.
Season Pass €89,99
For real?
And what do you get... 2 characters. TWO!
And a bunch of cosmetics. For ninety euro's... The worst part, people keep defending this kind of BS.
"DOA5 also had over 1000 euro's of DLC"
Aaahhh... okay... in that case, this is 100% okay to do... right? RIGHT?
/rant
Smash has been my favorite game on switch, and it is always great to see it selling so good!
Don't Wild: King of Blast come to west?
Switch is up! Very healthy numbers.
@Trellgoth Never underestimate people desperate to see virtual boobs.
@thesilverbrick My guess would be Monster Hunter World but I don't recall where sales left off in Japan.
I wonder if Microsoft will bother releasing the new Xbox One All Digital Edition in Japan?
@thesilverbrick
For Nintendo home consoles? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those are Wii-level game sales. Comparable to Mario Kart (Wii), New Super Mario Bros (Wii), and Smash Bros Brawl. Though, I think both Splatoon 2 and Ultimate have surpassed Brawl's numbers in Japan.
What's crazy is those games will still continue to sell well. Smash and Splatoon have crazy good legs in Japan, and the Switch is only on year two.
Splatoon 2 is on the brink of being smashed as the top seller in the charts. Didn't see that coming so quickly!
@Spoony_Tech @thesilverbrick I don't think Monster Hunter World got anywhere near 3m. My best guess for the last 3m game in Japan would be one of the Pokémons. Or Dragon Quest XI - but that was multiformat.
@Trellgoth agree 100% people should just not buy games like this it sends the wrong message to the publishers if you look up doa 5 on the PlayStation store it’s just page after page of dlc it’s insane people even give things like this the time of day someone said on here the other day they would love to see doa 6 on switch but no just no
Masterpiece at the top
The 3ds just keeps on generating $ for nintendo
Gap between PS4 and Switch units sold in Japan: 358,425
Gap last week: 407,234
Catherine Full Body on Vita bombed. At best it sold about 12,000 units by its third week, meaning it has sold worse than M+L BIS 3DS.
@Anti-Matter Did you see the new Story of Seasons / Doraemon crossover game? It looks like it's going to be really good.
@Gs69 With DOA5, there is an option to buy things per piece. There are tons of "DLC", where you - as a consumer - can decide if you want just one outfit (99 cents), or a single character. There, you actually have the choice to spend as much or less as you like.
With DOA6? If I were to get the game, I would be interested in the 2 characters only. (know thy enemy, and all)
Playing fighting games on higher lvl, you NEED all characters to know how they play.
If I want those characters, I am FORCED to spend a mere 90 euro's, which is actually 1,5 times the pricing of the base game. And people simply accept it, draw their credit card and pay without doubt.
Common sense? Gone.
But by all means, keep supporting these kind of things ;p
@Anti-Matter you calling off Doreamon being mediocre while giving a chance to Marios / Kirby and especially PokeMon??!!
Left Alive seems to be popular. As a very bad game. Another rubbish exclusive besides The Quiet Man.
@Trellgoth I’m enjoying DoA 6, but I refuse to buy the pass at $93, so either that comes down or I’ll just purchase the content (the ones I want) separately. Especially Mai Shiranui.
Also, I bought the deluxe version for $70; the standard version on steam was less than $60. This is the digital version.
@Trellgoth They are still releasing the season pass content separately
@link3710 Wait, what? That’s amazing
@Gs69 They aren’t forcing anyone to buy the DLC; they’re also going to release each piece of that season pass for separate purchases
Despite that DoA is at the top spot, that’s not very good launch numbers, is it?
@Antraxx777 what's the source of the content be available separately? Couldn't find anything on that.
As it is now, you either buy the Season Pass, or you won't get anything at all.
And that is just pure and simple BS. This should not be happening in the first place.
@Antraxx777 yeah I’m not saying they are it’s just bad business practice if a game has a $90 season pass then the game itself should be free what exactly are you paying for when you initially buy the game people go mad at Fortnite cos of the micro transactions and season passes but it’s free I play it occasionally and it hasn’t cost me a penny
I betcha if Final Fantasy IX for Switch had a physical release, it would had sell way more than all those games up there.
@Gs69 The DOA DLC is typical Koei Tecmo. It's not anything new. Most of it are costumes as usual that you don't really need.
Kirby’s epic Yarn on Wii sold 92,280 copies in its first week in Japan.
Curious to see how Extra Epic compares.
@HollowGrapeJ yeah thought it might be but it’s a shame as the base game is good it’s a series I have always played up until 5 when I saw the overwhelming amount of dlc on PlayStation store
@Gs69 Each of the characters has 15 default costumes (some are just palette swaps, but there’s still plenty); the game also has a cast of 20+ characters, 10 stages and tons of scattered cutscenes through story mode. It’s definitely a full game already without the season pass.
$93 is bad but it’s not forced on anyone.
@Trellgoth https://www.pcgamer.com/dead-or-alive-6s-first-season-pass-costs-dollar93/
They mention the DLC being sold separately in the third paragraph.
@Antraxx777 Not an actual source, though. The assumption is made everything will be sold separately later on. But neither Koei or Team Ninja have announced anything on the matter. Therefore, people are "forced" to pay full Season Pricing if they want only the two characters.
But, this is my (salty) opinion.
@Antraxx777 My guess is that if DOA6 ever got a release for Switch later on, it would be the definitive version with all DLCs included. I hope so cause having the incomplete version with paid DLCs is lousy.
wait til joker (and maybe the guy from dragon quest (to me he is FLY)) appears... the sales in Japain will increeeease!
Nothing to see till Devil May Cry and Sekiro come out.
Broken ANTHEM at the verge of breaking 100k in Japan is funny - the power of flying robots 🙂

Here ya go. Probably won't be localized like all things Doraemon, but I'm hoping for a southeast Asia English release anyways so I can import.
@thesilverbrick
New Super Mario Bros Wii sold ~4.5 million in Japan. That was the last time a home console game sold 3+ million copies in Japan.
If you include digital sales, Smash Bros Ultimate reached 3+ million copies sold by the beginning of January 2019. Same with Splatoon 2.
@retro_player_22 It does suck but something has to pay for all those hard work hours put in designing, producing and testing all those costumes (costumes that now have various damaged stages). Seriously, there are few other games that have so many different outfits to dress the characters in.
@link3710 Holy crap I have to play this. It’s beautiful. I’m also a huge fan of Harvest Moon / Rune Factory / Story of Seasons
