If you're a diehard Pokémon fan, you'll no doubt be aware that this year has seen a celebration of all things legendary, with proceedings aptly named the 'Year of Legendary Pokémon'. Well, the month of September brings with it another duo of legendary beasts for your collection: Latias and Latios.
These fan-favourite Pokémon, who first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, will be available for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, as well as Pokémon Sun and Moon. Their stats will differ depending on which game you plan to send them to.
Latias is exclusive to the Sun versions of the games, while Latios is exclusive to the Moon games. Here's all the info you need on which creature you'll be able to get your hands on:
US players will need to visit their local participating Best Buy store between now and 29th September to receive the Pokémon; UK players can simply access the Mystery Gift function in-game.
Will you be adding either of these Pokémon to your team? Which one's your favourite? Tell us below.

Download month - woohoo!
I hope with the 2019 game we will finally be done with going to random specific stores for these kinds of things. It'd also be nice to see all Pokemon obtainable through normal game play... These two are no problem. But ever since Red and Blue, I have been annoyed by the fact that most event Pokemon are never catchable via normal gameplay. I think Deoxys is the only event Pokemon to have become obtainable normally, in ORAS. Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy/Phione, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Genesect, Diance, Hoopa, Volcanion, Meganera, Zeroaora and Marshadow are all Pokemon that have been only ever released via special events.
I know they aren't required for anything in game. But I dislike that they are in the game, but locked behind an outside event wall. Imagine buying a new Mustang, but you can't use the radio unless you go to a special dealer and have them unlock it! It's right there, in the car you already bought, but you can't use it. They aren't DLC, they are content in the game, you just can't access it until someone at Game Freak feels like letting you, and if you miss it, you're out of luck.
UK players... what about the rest of Europe?
@Fandabidozi No, you have to go to BestBuy.
@Heavyarms55 I agree and I wish event Pokemon actually felt special instead of just something you get from Mystery Gift then stick in a box and never use. It would be much better if they still had special in-game events to acquire them that give you a bit of backstory on the Pokemon, like with Celebi in HGSS and Shaymin in DPP (although I never got to play those events because my internet connection wasn't compatible with the original DS).
@Luffymcduck
Should be mystery gift as well
Yessssss! Two more free Gold Bottle caps!
@Dogorilla I would go a step further. I want no more distribution exclusive Pokemon. They could still do it for Pokemon with special moves (preferably ones without competitive value, like Celebrate) or be shiny Pokemon, or even signature Pokemon of world champions like they did one year...
But every Pokemon in the Pokedex should be obtainable in game without any outside source. It doesn't and probably shouldn't be all in a single game, but in A game. If over the course of Switch's lifespan we get like, 2 or even 3 generations of Pokemon titles, they could slowly roll them out. The could be awesome, secret post game quests, or maybe not even post game things, just deep secrets that everyone will just look up on Serebii and Bulbapedia but whatever because that's still much better than going to Best Buy and getting a Shaymin...
But my point is, in the Pokemon series, in my opinion, every Pokemon needs to be obtainable without an outside event. The event exclusives are inherently unfair and directly promote cheating. Cheating that I sympathize with.
If you pick up a copy of Pokemon Platimum or Heart Gold, or Black version, just for example, there are several in game events, actual story things, that are just not playable anymore. Battling Geovanni in HG, catching Shaymin and Arceus in Platinum(the Arceus event NEVER got released!) and the Keldeo and Victini missions in Black... And that's just a handful of features that are dead now, without cheating.
@Heavyarms55 Oh, good point. I suppose they've been starting to do something like what you suggested, with all the legendaries available via soaring in ORAS and the Ultra Wormhole in USUM, but they're not the same Pokemon that are normally locked behind timed events. I agree that the whole event-exclusive thing is unnecessary.
If only my city had any of those places nearby
Apparently from what people have been reporting, most Best Buys are abusing the codes and making you purchase a copy of Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Moon in order to get one, now that is complete garbage.
Even GameStop isn’t that low.
U.S always stinks when comes to Pokémon gifts. Why can't they just be a mystery gift like uk. Not everyone is able to go to store. For me I'm not gonna go to a store just for a Pokémon code. They need make them Available as mystery gift instead of store codes
Whatever happened to Pokemon distributions via the Nintendo Network here in NA? Last time they did a "Year of Legendary Pokemon", most of the events were available online and not via serial code.
Looks like I'll be sitting this one out too. The closest Best Buy to me is about as close as the nearest Target (over an hour's drive).
@PigmaskFan
My nearest Best Buy is 6,500 km away, so I hope not. 😅
