Meh. Pass. Dragon Ball releases a new fighter every year or so but they all seem the same to me. Maybe more or less characters, maybe a different visual style, but just another Dragon Ball fighter. They can be fun, but the novelty for me wore off around Budakai 2 on PS2.

As much as I do remember loving DBZ as a kid, Dragon Ball Super struck me as corny, inconsistent and boring. I am sure if I took off the nostalgia goggles I'd not like DBZ as much as I did as a kid either.

That said, I know the Dragon Ball fandom is one of the most loyal around, so I bet they're bursting with excitement for this game, and I wish them all the best.

Cooler is correct. As a holdover from the series' more comedic tone in the earlier arcs, pretty much every character's name is a pun of some sort.

Freezer (officially translated as Frieza to make it sound a bit less silly in the west), father King Cold, and brother Cooler.

Son Goku is the Japanese pronunciation of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King in the Chinese fable Journey to the West that Dragon Ball's first arc is loosley based on.

Sayains are all named after vegetables (Sayain itself is derived from the Japanese word for vegetable). Vegeta-Vegetable, Kakorot (Goku's Sayain name)-Carrot, Nappa-a type of Chinese Cabbage, Radditz-Raddish, Broly-Broccoli, etc.

Forget Freezer this guy is Cooler. Glad he finally made it to the game alongside Broly.

@RR529 Also all of Goku and Vegeta's earth descendants are named after food and household items for example Gohan (rice), Pan, Bra (Bulla), and Trunks. Goten is the only exception for some reason. I find the Namekian had better names: Piccolo, Kami, Slug, Nail, Majunior (Piccolo's fake name), Dendei, Guru, etc.

Cooler's gonna be an awesome addition to this. I hope him and Frieza have some interactions.

At some point I'd like to see Jiren, Roshi, Kefla and Janemba added too.

Cooler has always been...well...cooler than Freezer. He has so much potential, I hope he becomes canon someday, just like Broly will be in the next movie.

Yes. I always found Cooler to be cooler than Frieza. Some people think that Frieza was cooler and Cooler was frieza.

@Heavyarms55 They hardly release a new DBZ fighting game every year. This is Dragon Ball FighterZ that came out last year that has become the definitive fighting game for DBZ fans. You should really check it out. Incredibly fun and just oozes with the charm of the series from the developers.

Everything is painstakingly made and really the game looks just like the show. No other DBZ fighting game has been made like this one.

Cooler is one of the few movie villains to really rise up and be as well known as the main series characters, so it's great to see him join the fight.

Being included in the roster doesn't mean you get revenge, cooler. if vegeta hasn't gotten his revenge on goku, then you've got some slim chance bruddah

@Heavyarms55 shouldn't have stopped at Budokai 2. Budokai 3 is my favourite PS2 game, spent literally 100s of hours playing with friends, also in my opinion had the best amount of single player content in a fighter I've ever seen. God I love that game so much.

@retro_player_22 Goten the odd one out because thematically he's named after his Father. Goten's first name means 'Perceiving Heaven/Awakening to Heaven' while Goku means Perceiving Air/Awakened to Emptyness. Also Pan is a threefer on the naming convention as Pan can refer to Food(bread continuing the Son Family theme), The Devil[Videl and Hercule's Japanese name are both anagrams of the Devil and Akuma(Hercule's name is Maaku in Japanese, Mr. Satan is a Stage Name)], and a Music instrument(as Piccolo and his family are all named after).

Now that I think about, every db group has a theme. The Ginyus were dairy, the Pride troopers were Kitchen stuff, Nameccians excluding Piccolo were Slugs, most of Universe 2 are named after Meat, Universe 3 is Italian dishes, universe 9 is herbs and spices, the GoD and Angels is Liquor based and the Supreme Kais' theme are Mythological God's.
