Those of you that check up on the News tab on the Nintendo Switch have likely seen something about the impending summer update for Kirby Star Allies, one which will add in a new batch of characters to the cutesy 2D platformer. We already have seen footage of Daroach and Dark Meta Knight, but there will apparently be more Dream Friends in this update.
The official Japanese Kirby Twitter has Tweeted out an image showcasing the silhouette of the next Dream Friend, showing off a distinctly rotund character who appears to bear more than a passing resemblance to Kirby. It seems unlikely that the character will turn out to be mere a palette swap of the pink puff, so it seems that there’s some shenanigans being pulled in terms of the angle of the silhouette. The character should hopefully be revealed in the next week or so, and then perhaps we’ll finally get a release date for that update.
What do you think? Who’s the silhouette? Which other characters would you like to see? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I haven't touched this game since I beat the final boss. It was fun enough but nothing special.
There's a Kirby game on Switch?
Jigglypuff from above.
Mr. Game & Watch Kirby
Waluigi from above.
@Aozz101x He has arms though..
I don’t get the slow release strategy for this game, it has little to no replay value.
I just recently got this game and completed it. Fun, but it felt kinda short. I just need to collect a few more puzzle pieces.
@INKT That's why they're working on a big update to give the game that replay value?
Oh my god!!! Could it be the Fake Kirby from Kirbys Dreamland 3?
I spent 5 hours with this game, beat it, and never looked back. I don’t understand what’s the point of these new characters, do they add anything to the gameplay?
Batamon, that's the name of the characters. They're from Kirbys Dreamland 3 and they look almost exactly like Kirby, except they have these weird cute anime faces.
@SuperWeird Ya in the side-character storymode each dlc character adds new stages, and even adds new sections to existing stages. So it feels like their own unique story mode. Just with the same boss battles and half of the stages being the same.
@BezBot oops, my bad. (i guess my brain was in some other place. XD)
no idea, than.
Or Sakurai could be trolling us and that's the painter from Kirby 64, just seen from a weird angle.
It's Lolo!
100% complete already, but the new characters might help convince me to replay sooner rather than later.
@SuperWeird And they're trying to hype it up like it's some big update, but afaik, it's an excuse to run through the game again as another Dream Friend. I beat the game three times--once as Kirby to unlock Guest Star, again as Birdon because Dream Friends are off limits for the first GS run, then as Marx, who I would've chosen instead of Birdon, so it's kinda hard to get excited about beating the game again. If they announced a second campaign, which could also be played in Guest Star mode, then I might be more enthusiastic.
If Marx didn't get me to buy this game yet, I dunno who will. Maybe Ribbon from Crystal Shards, but I don't think that's her.
@Heavyarms55 so you beat the super secret boss
Anyone who saw the datamine already knows who this really is.
@Varkster In this case, I don’t know that I would call a batch of new characters much of an increase to replay value. The game was fun but felt lacking in a way where just having more characters and new abilities wouldn’t be enough for me to want to play it again over other titles. A new difficulty setting or mode would be a better draw for me personally.
@Varkster New characters don't really add much replay value. They're fun for a few minutes, but once you've finished messing around with them you're out of things to do again. If they want to extend the replay value they should add new levels or minigames. The game could definitely use more of the former, the game is shockingly short for a console game. I couldn't believe my eyes when I reached the final boss after a mere 4 worlds, it felt like the game was only just getting started.
@INKT None of us can say if they're working on new levels yet for the update because we don't work at Nintendo, I understand peoples' frustration with the game being awfully short.
I personally dont have an investment in this because I never bought the game myself so my judgment is universally irrelevant, however I like the idea of free content through updates. Regardless of what it is - the developers receive a thumbs up from me.
I am seeing this for sale around the internet for around $30 right now.... once it drops to $20 I will certainly pick it up and it will be a nice bonus to have these characters included!
will wait til deep sale and when all the "dlc" is released.
For the most part, I can understand why people are lukewarm to this game, and to the updates. As someone who's played through Guest Star mode with every character so far, I can attest that the levels are generally pretty repetitive, and the characters are more like additional Kirby abilities than actual characters. So I get the apathy.
But...I still get unreasonably hyped every time they show a new character. And I fully intend to play through Guest Star mode with all of them when they're out. Why? Couldn't tell you. I'm just a massive Kirby fan, and I'm blown away by how many of my favorites from the series that I'm getting a chance to play as. And it's not like they're charging for it, either--though I'd likely still buy if they did. Maybe I'm crazy...but this Kirby fan is happy with these updates.
Oh, and if you want replay value...I will direct you to the Ultimate Choice. Chasing faster times against the bosses with different abilities has always been a Kirby series highlight post-game.
@edgedino If there is one, probably not. I collected the puzzle piece in each level and hit all the switches. I am not interested in time trial modes or challenge runs as specific characters.
name that Pokémon!
@Heavyarms55 there is he is in the highest difficulty of boss rush but it has unlock requirements but it really is alot more fun and alot more difficult.
@Philo That may be the problem, because Kirby is all about swapping abilities, being limited to one doesn't hold as much appeal. Even if it was fun to smash through as Meta Knight in Nightmare in Dreamland. But in that game Kirby's abilities were much more limited than in Star Allies, without combos and such.
@edgedino Meh, not my thing. Replaying the same content at a higher difficulty doesn't really interest me. But all the power to those who enjoy that!
@patbacknitro18 Sakurai left the Kirby franchise ages ago, he had no part in this one!
@Varkster I agree, and didn’t mean to come off as unappreciative of the free content or the developers efforts.
Shadow Kirby.
Well, we already know it's Adeleine from Kirby 64, and it actually looks like her model viewed from the top.
@SuperWeird They do, yes. Other than being awesome fanservices (some of them haven't appeared in a Kirby game in over 20 years) with abilities that are inspired by what they could do in those games, they also add their own Guest Star playthrough with some exclusive stages and at least two pieces of music, they add their own Ultimate Choice playthrough (which is usually one of the best parts of any Kirby game, previously known as The Arena/True Arena), and the previous bunch also added a brand new artwork you can collect puzzle pieces for, as well as transformations for the Stone ability that are based on each of the new characters.
@patbacknitro18 Sakurai's last Kirby game was Kirby Air Ride on the Gamecube 14 years ago, and his last mainline Kirby game was Kirby Super Star on the SNES 22 years ago.
They hid the real shape before, so my bet is prince fluff.
@whitemaskedhero its adeliene and ribbon
@edgedino
Well now I know, they already announced it
@patbacknitro18 You mean Batamon?
