Chucklefish has announced that the highly anticipated 2D fighter Pocket Rumble is finally arriving on Nintendo Switch next month, now scheduled to release on 5th July.
Pocket Rumble is a streamlined, beginner-friendly 2D fighting game inspired by SNK’s classic fighters on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. It aims to retain all the gameplay elements that make traditional fighters great, while reducing the level of execution and memorisation necessary to the absolute minimum.
The game was first announced way back in February of last year - a month before the Switch released. Originally, Pocket Rumble was going to be available during the console's launch window and was generating some keen interest amongst fans, but the delay has seen it slip out of people's thoughts thanks to the steady onslaught of indie delights on the system since then. Hopefully it can now finally live the life it was destined to.

Here are some of the game's features:
Features:
- Simple 2-button controls with universal and easy special move inputs, involving no complex joystick motions
- Short combos with straightforward timing and cancel system
- Diverse cast of characters, each with their own unique meter and mechanics
- On-screen frame data bar and visual indicators for properties such as invulnerability to introduce players to fighting game basics
- Near-flawless online multiplayer with GGPO netcode
- HD rumble support, specific to the Nintendo Switch version

Yes! It’s been a long time coming, but you’ll soon be mine, Pocket Rumble!
IT'S ABOUT DANG TIME. Geez. Been waiting for a 'coon's age.
right on I'll pick this up.
about time, this has been on my radar since launch!
Finally, but from the new pics it looks like they added a lot more detail.
Can’t wait wondered what had happened to this I remember reading about it when the switch first came out hope it reviews well
Price will play a big factor in how well this does.
I have to admit I've long since lost my interest in this. I absolutely would have picked it up if it came out when it was supposed to, but as it is I already have my fill of fighting games on Switch. I applaud that they took their time making the game right and all instead of rushing it out the door, but the interest just isn't there anymore for me. Depending on the price I may still pick it up though...
@getyourak I’ve heard it’s gonna be $9.99 no word on the Uk or euro price yet tho
It looks cool and all, but I fear its hype has come and gone and that not as many people will be interested in picking it up as they would have been if it had come out earlier.
Really looking forward to this. May have to put my neo Geo pocket down to play it 😉
I feel bad but with all the other fighting games on the system and on the way...I'll have to give this one a pass.
The Neo Geo Pocket has the best stick on a handheld ever. That clicky thing feels so good.
Nice seems like a well inspired fighter. Hopefully this inspired SNK to release the actual NeoGeo Pocket Color classics to Switch someday
Not interested at all but I wonder what the heck happened that caused such a long delay? I thought I read it was an online issue?
Next do Sonic Pocket Adventure and that weird gun rpg with the eggs. Neo Geo Pocket Color has a few more games I'd like to play again.
I'm echoing what others have said. I'm interested in picking it up but I feel like its chance to shine has passed. We now have multiple neo geo fighting games, some of the best in the fighting game genre at that. We also have BB Cross Tag Battle, SF 30th anniversary, and soon we'll have Dragon Ball Fighter Z as well as SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. I hope the devs are able to make some money off of this but man I really feel like they missed their chance to shine.
About time...but that delay and silence on Chucklefish's part of this game has all but killed any hype or interest I had for it. Best of luck to it I suppose.
This has to be the most overrated game in Switch's short history. Why does everyone care about this ridiculous game??? It doesn't even look 8 bit, more like 4. There are far better fighting games out already or coming soon like Smash, Dragon Ball & Street Fighter.
Looks terrible. Was it on Game Boy? Ridiculous.
omg omg omg omg omfg!!! FINAFRICKALLY!!!!!
@BradC40 This game is inspired by fighting games released for the NeoGeo Pocket Color which was an 8-Bit system with 16-Bit CPU and compete with Game Boy Color. It feature games like these:

@BradC40
It’s based on the art style of fighting games on the Neo Geo Color

For a minute I thought it would be Pocket Fighter. Would be great
Pocket Rumble is dead on Steam. Looks like an alright game, but I'm not investing time in a fighting game nobody plays. Also, I doubt this plays and controls as well as most of the Neo Geo Pocket's library. If they make a port for the Neo Geo Pocket, I'd be interested.
I was very hyped in March 2017, but now it's just too late. There are too many games coming right now. Maybe by the end of the year.
But I'm really happy that it's happening.
Gives me some hope that Nicalis’ other long lost game ‘Redout’ might still have a chance.
Oh, Pocket Rumble - do you see that boat? I'm worried you might have missed it. So, so, so many versus fighters on Switch now, with Dragon Ball FighterZ and the SNK Heroines game to come.
See all the “not interested anymore” comments here? That’s how I feel too. But on the other hand, that’s what you get when you have “a (presumably) delayed great game rather than a on schedule bad game”, we’re slowly killing devs who’s putting efforts into their games, damn....
Personally I'm pretty excited for this! But frankly do people still care about this? It's been waay to long.
I may give it a shot
@FTL Oooooohhhh yeeeeaaaaahhj
If this would have been released last year I think it would have been huge, now, not so much.
Sorry but it's released far too late, between all of the SNK games and the recent Street Fighter collection I have more than enough 2D fighters to be getting on with
Was hyped for this and still am. Played it at REZZED earlier this year and loved it. Day 1 for me.
Loved the NGPC, wish I still had mine (had to sell it to help fund a family holiday) or a backlit screen version. The stick was awesome and there were some brilliant games!
@big_bad_bob It's been out on Steam for over a year, i simply cannot see how this port has taken that long or how that is killing any devs at all.
@carlos82 I have to agree with ya. If this was a launch title, it would be a different story. But seeing as SSBBU be out soon, not to mention the few mention fighting games already out, I believe this game is coming out too late.
I'll be grabbing this but I must admit my desire is tempered alot since the Switch is starting to swim in (2D) fighters
The trailer has reignited my excitement, I will definitely buy this!!!
As the proud owner of a NGPC I will pick this up. It at least has something about it to stand out form all the other fighters on Switch. And it'll be cheap.
IS THAT A RUMBLE IN YOUR POCKET OR ARE YOU JUST HAPPY TO SEE ME?
I’ll be picking this up also, can’t wait!
@YANDMAN I assumed it’s delayed on all platforms, didn’t pay attention to steam, my bad.
