13AM Games has revealed that Dadako Studios' Pirate Pop Plus is coming to the Switch eShop next week.
The faux-retro title previously launched on 3DS and Wii U, and boasts a lovely Game Boy-like art style and Pang-like gameplay. We really enjoyed both of its previous versions, so we can't see any reason why we wouldn't recommend this Switch edition - third time is a charm, we guess.
The game will come with a week-long 20 percent discount when it arrives on May 31st, which makes it even more appealing. Let us know if you plan on buying this excellent title by popping a few bubbles in the comments section below.

This retro thing is out of control. Next thing you know, we'll be playing a non-remastered version of pong on a 4K TV...
I'm afraid of the future of video games.
In 2050 you'll have:
99% games that look like they are 80 year old
The yearly copy and paste like FIFA, Call of, etc...
Skyrim and GTA5 re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-remastered
And a new Zelda, Mario, Metroid, DK, etc... every 5-10 years
I tried this game and got really, really bored after thirty seconds. Would be much better if the in-game art looked like the promo art.
@Rhaoulos I remember when Braid first came out, I was amazed by the painterly look and thought "yes, with resolutions as high as we have now 2D games can all be that beautiful! I can't wait to see what else all those indie devs have in store!"
Turned out it was almost nothing but 8-bits.
I partially blame Cave Story.
Soon there will be nothing but one single little sprite on the tv that wins game of the year or something. How can people buy this stuff? Indie game developers don't even try anymore.
@SmaggTheSmug
It might be cave story or many others. Especially the successful old looking games like Stardew Valley. I also blame it on every VC game being released and Nintendo's legendary old consoles that stir all this nostalgia. But it's not their fault if they made truly incredible games.
1: Developers thought they could easily create a crappy pixel "art" game and surf on that nostalgia wave but most of them are more shovelware than art.
2: Critics acclaim pixelated games because it seems to be the new trend.
3: Users buy these games because of reviews with undeserved scores
4: repeat with even more devs
@Rhaoulos Stardew Valley came out too recently to be an influence. Original Cave Story was from before "indie" was coined and popularized. It was just a "freeware game" back in 2004. I remember it being called "the SNES classic that was never on SNES" or something similar. Since 2009 or so we've been flooded by indies and before the boom most opted for non-retro pixel art or a hand-drawn look, like JJ Soft (now Saito) games.
When Shovel Knight came out 8-bit style was already a trend for a long time. Shovel Knight just did it better than everyone else at the time and was the most faithful.
I understand that people are burned out on retro styled games and that it can be hard to distinguish the good ones from the rest, but this one is actually great and I had a lot of fun with it on 3DS. So don't judge it too fast is what I'm saying I guess.
I'm tired of 8 bit games. Where's my low-poly 64 bit games?
It was cross-buy on 3ds/WiiU, will that work for Switch
Pixel art is just that.. an art style. It's cheaper to make look good and has an audience, why wouldn't you use it?
Have this on the Wii U and enjoyed it a lot! Might pick this up on the switch as well
@Rhaoulos yeah, the industry really needs a shot in the arm.
This looks like a lot of fun ... don't know what 20% looks like for this one, but if it brings it under $10, I"ll bite.
@SmaggTheSmug
That is genuinely interesting. I didn't know about the cave story... story, and the origin of all those ugly and useless pixalated games.
The fact that some games were successful only made things worse. And shovel knight is a much better example than stardew valley.
