Nintendo Switch has plenty of exciting titles headed its way in 2018, including a flurry of new racers looking to give Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a run for its racing money. That includes the gravity-defying action of GRIP, which is due to burn rubber and level buildings later this year.
YouTuber duo The Nintendo Power Couple was able to capture some footage of the game running on Nintendo Switch (it's also coming to PC and other consoles) and you'll be pleased to see it looks smooth, fast and furious (although we did pick up a little slowdown when things got hectic on screen). They also spoke with Chris Mallinson, the lead developer at Caged Element. Check it out below...

So what do you think of this GRIP footage? Will you be playing it on Nintendo Switch when it speeds onto the handheld later year? Share your thoughts with the community below...

Hm...
No Mario Kart games, No buy.
@Anti-Matter - We all love Mario Kart, but limiting your racing game interests to a single series isn't a position anyone would or should defend.
@Folkloner
Um...
Actually i had ever tried Maximum Tune 5DX Arcade for Once.
I had ever played that Normal Racing games, but.... Never be my interest.
Still never like Realistic racing games.
I felt bored.
For me, Racing without Cartoonish looking & Items to be smacked onto Opponents = Birthday cake without Icing & Sugar.
Smooth? This looks like a Powerpoint slideshow. It's so choppy it gives me headaches
Still waiting for RedOut on Switch.
'Rolling the Cage' is a reference to Rollcage? That game was amazing on the pc. Too bad a 18 year old game looks more smooth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXfbo9JPM9U
@Anti-Matter That's great but maybe clarify that preference instead of saying "No Mario Kart games, No buy." because it comes across as rather sh-tposty.
I remember playing Rollcage on the PSone when I was a kid. I think I still have the same copy.
I'm definitely interested in Grip simply because it's a spiritual successor. I'll keep my eye on it.
No sense of speed. Rollcage runs at 60fps on a slow computer, this is just unoptimised crap.
Nope
@Nincompoop He does specifically mention that it needs optimized for Switch, and that there are already newer builds that run better. There's parts of the video that certainly look like it's hitting 60FPS (Not consistently) so my guess would be it will be fine by release.
"See How Well Gravity-Defying Racer GRIP Performs On Nintendo Switch"
Not very, basically.
Can't wait. Optimization should've been further along before footage was shown, most folks can't read or dont understand that that comes later.
@Agramonte Same here, hopefully this year alongside Dragon's Mark for Death and Pocket Rumble.
@Anti-Matter But this game isn't realistic?
Looks pretty neat! I'll look out for it!
I think it looks fun and a nice alternative to Mario Kart. Also any wonder game devs would be reluctant to show their games before they are ready because so many people seemingly don't grasp it is still in development.
@Folkloner
That's all that person's posts ever are!
This game has potential.
Rollcage : An awesome, but completely uncontrollable racing game from the PS1era. I had a lot of laughs as I rammed uncontrollably into the many walls, and ended up driving backwards an insane amount of times.
But it wouldn’t be Rollcage without... https://youtu.be/JyMhbc6SoGM
I'll buy any racing game on switch that has online multiplayer & looks fun, so I'll be getting this game.
I don't care bout graphics & as long the frame rate is decent , even when it slows down that's fine.
Looks great.
giving 8's like they are 6's
Buying this... I love the look and feel this gives off. Kind of reminds me of pod racing with wheels.
Looks very dull.
Dat framerate....🤢😫
Could be fun. I'll wait for the review.
@Agramonte: If you're holding your breath for RedOut, I fear you'll have to change your avatar to Inky . . . . .
. . . as for the framerate, it is stated in the beginning of the video this was an "earlier build" and the game is still being optimized.
This game looks incredible. I've been following it since it was announced. Yes, it's a spiritual successor to Rollcage.
Looks so fun... this will be day one.
I am super excited for this game. I hope they get it running smoothly on Switch, but if not I'll buy it for PS4.
well nothing spectacular but the more Rollcage-esque games, the better
the video isn't even in 60fps so maybe you shouldn't judge the framerate
Some people are just ... unique
A man can like cute stuff (not outloud in my case) but yeah, a mix between language barrier and weird sense of humor or lack social experience (real socializing) makes me and maybe others scratching heads
Foe a dev to come and read comments like that it doesn't help at all, it doesn't help you to express that either, or your friends to have a narrow opinion like that.
We have a saying here "if words are made of silver, silence is made of gold" and some people should follow this or at least think of what are you going to write and how people will interpret it and how will you look saying that and everything should look respectful and "normal"
Bless you all lovely people
@Anti-Matter It means no F-zero for you??
Looks like a good distraction until F-Zero eventually hits the Switch. Unfortunately it doesn't look like anything better than just that - a distraction.
that dev looks so happy to be sandwiched between those two:(
@0muros
Never played F-Zero.
Just only know from Youtube.
Well, F-Zero looks too fast for me.
Developer:"Ofcourse this is an older build, the newer ones are much better"
Comment Section:"Ugh why is the framerate so bad?"
For the right price I would certainly give this a go... I hope they improve the frame rate by launch though, yikes that was choppy!
@bluedogrulez lol! yeah probably... Amazon not canceled my pre order yet - keep hope alive.
"...speeds onto the handheld..."
Still being ignorant, I see?🙄 By the way: The Wii was also a handheld, right?
Racing games on Switch are at an instant disadvantage on Switch because they have to compete with one of the best racers of all time in MK8 Deluxe. Games need to be either sufficiently different, or actually on the same level of quality, with an additional twist to make them notable.
@MrBlacky I could not take the Wii with me and play on the train, or at the cafe, no the Wii was not a handheld.
@Heavyarms55
And the Switch is also 100% a home console. But that gets ignored here frequently by calling it a handheld. I also often read, it shouldnˋt be compared to the other consoles, because itˋs an handheld and the 3DS successor.
@Majora101 DM <3
@MrBlacky The Switch IS a handheld that you can plug into the TV, it is the successor of both the Wii U and 3DS and rightfully should NOT be compared to dedicated home consoles. A PS4 or Xbone are easily 4 or 5 times the mass of a Switch and SHOULD be more powerful. They also are chained to a TV.
The Nintendo Power Couple are so ‘handsy’.
They need to restrain those hands a little. They are stealing the show.
It's too fast it makes some dizzy
Also not cute enough lol 😁
For me I'll take every good game loud and proud
