Due to arrive in 2018, Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture's latest opus - the genre-mashing world of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes - is already shaping up to be one of the year's most unusual Switch-bound games when it eventually hits the Switch eShop. Check out the trailer from the recent Nintendo Direct if you need to catch up.
But will the game ever get a physical release at retail? The question was put to Suda51 during an interview with Siliconera, who - in true Suda51 style - left things tentatively open, saying: "Maybe. Grasshopper Manufacture is handling publishing for this title." Sounds like Suda is more concerned with getting the game right than worrying about special editions and physical boxes. But still, there's hope if you're a collector.
Would you want to see Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes at retail? Or would you be fine with an eShop release only? Let us know what your take is...

If a game is under or just slightly above the 10GB threshold I prefer going digital...I'm really not a fan of swapping cartridges every time I want to play another game, and that's what my 256GB micro SD is for
If Sine Mora got one...
Honestly I’m completely unbothered by games not getting retail releases, I’ve made the decision to go all digital-everything starting with the Switch for the next generation. I know some people may not like it, but you may just need to accept it by now, we are nearing a digital age, it’s time to be current with times.
Gamestop put up a physical listing the day after they revealed this one for $40. After pre-ordering and checking the next day, it shot up to $60 lol. Safe to say this is up in the air right now.

"Lets get physical, physical"
Well if there's no physical copy, I definitely won't be buying it.
I hope so. I'm not buying it digital after having the first two ones on Wii discs. Sorry.
I'm gonna nab it digital anyway, always want Travis ready!
I’ll get this regardless, but I’d much rather have a physical copy.
This was the biggest disappointment of the year. Hype announcement trailer, comeback of NMH.... And then it turns out to be a basic top down slasher.
Contrary to the above comment, what I saw of the game really made overly excited. There is a huge Furi vibe to the whole thing that equals day 1 for me. Would love to have it at retail, but it would seem with each passing week that more and more digital is gaining momentum on the Switch.
Oh come on! I really dislike digital.
A big shame if not, I'll have to pass if digital only. I have a finite amount of cash, and I'll be using it to buy games with physical copies.
Besides, who's to say this won't get a retail version months, or a year even, after its Eshop release?
Again with the 'physical'. Christ! Yes, for games heavy in gigabytes, you can make an argument for it. For games weighing in at under 2gb (for example), all that unnecessary packaging/plastic...
There are at the moment TOO MUCH good games on Switch, so for me, if it does not have a physical release it is a no go for me. This helps to control my list of games to buy...
Hard to imagine that saying Yes would be that difficult. It's just a one syllable word, less stressful than a Maybe.
@Cartune in the current times we have a choice. The choice exists because not everyone is willing to move to digital-only. Not yet. I’m a mixture of physical and digital. I want the big games on cartridge for preservation sake and possible resale value, and smaller games I’m happy to download. Vinyl is making a resurgence. Wasn’t that dead a few decades ago. I predict physical game carts won’t go anywhere just yet. I will probably be ready to move to digital-only when we’re moving into a streaming subscription atrocity of a future.
@BigKing there was a glimpse of the traditional third person story mode at the end of the trailer. That not get you excited? Hopefully not all the in-game computer games will be top down slashers. Until we see more I gonna hold my thoughts.
@SanderEvers and digital is composed of physical transistors in either an on or off state. I’m being silly. I get your point. The main issue for me is preservation and resale value. So I buy physical for the games I deem to be special games ya know games I want my kids and future grandkids to experience.
Absolutely I would.
@beazlen1 If you look closely, you'll see it's the save screen.
The difference between physical and digital is not what everyone seems to think it is. Video games are inherently a digital medium, and whether you buy a cartridge in a store or download a copy to an SD card, what you have is digital code on a storage device--it's exactly the same. The differences lie elsewhere, in the respective marketplaces; some of them appeared yesterday, in fact, when the first step in shuttering the Wii Shop Channel occurred.
@Cartune thing about digital is you can’t resell. Reselling is how I afford to play a lot of games
At least for me, no boxed retail release simply means NO BUY.
I won't buy any more digital games even if I want it bad.
I need a physical copy of this game.
So let me get this straight. The game ain't finish but ppl here already knows that the game will be short enough to not warrant a physical copy?
I mean if all Nintendo games which are 10gb or less have physical copies why not this one?
@Shiryu It's basically the same gameplay with a different camera angle. And if it leads to more No More Heroes in the future I will be happy.
Wait, what???
That left me shocked nonetheless.
I gave for granted that the game would be a retail since it is a AAA title.
@idrawrobots But there are still several play styles not yet showcased anywhere (like the racing bits), so lets see how it all turns out.
@Shiryu hey, I'm excited. I like the characters and dialog and the general art style of the series. I also generally trust Suda Goichi.
@idrawrobots In Suda we trust.
@Shiryu the best switch moment!
Don't really care how I get the game. Just give it to me.
I'll buy it not matter what but I'd be very disappointed if it doesn't have a physical option
If it's a triple A game then I definitely want the case and cartridge. The No More Heros games have been pretty quality in the past and if this one is on par with the two Wii iterations than I'm gonna need that case on my shelf.
I'm not familiar with No More Heroes' core gameplay, but the demo for Travis Strikes Back got me interested, and the interviews regarding the difficulty being toned down for said demo, and optional ways to mix up moves and take on opponents has me optimistic. I've got my 3DS and Switch backlog, as well as my SNES Mini (just got through my first round of Star Fox) so I probably should hold off... I should, but if the game hooks me, I probably won't.
On physical or digital, I'm starting to lean more towards digital and thinking about getting some bigger retail titles for my Switch in digital form, that way I'm better prepared for my life to become a Switch commercial, and Travis Strikes Back seems like one of those digital purchases. If there is a physical, it's probably going to be released along with the digital, so either way, we'll find out when we get there. NMH seems like a niche game, but usually those niches can be super dedicated, so I think at least a limited release would be worthwhile.
????? I naturally assumed it would be nothing less. Why would a developer of this caliber and a game franchise this popular be digital only?? I wont support it if it's purely digital.
how will i be able to buy five copies if it doesn't?
If this game does well then they'll make a full new No More Heroes.
IF THIS DOESN'T GET A PHYSICAL RELEASE I'M NOT BUYING IT!!!!!
If it's purely digital I'm going to be let down BIG TIME. I pretty much bought the Switch when I heard this game was coming to it.
