The early Nintendo Switch library has been characterized by an impressively diverse array of games, but by far the most prevalent games on the eShop are those that belong to the ACA Neo Geo series. Essentially a third party virtual console, the ACA Neo Geo series endeavors to preserve the many masterpieces that made their first appearance on the Neo Geo, and new titles are added to the collection just about every week.
Hamster Co. just revealed that the next game to be added is ACA Neo Geo Last Resort, a fairly stock shmup from 1992 that no doubt still holds a certain charm even in the modern age. It’s due out in just a couple days on 1st June, and will likely run you the usual rate for this series. Here’s a trailer showing it off in all its arcadey glory:
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? What’s your favorite Neo Geo game? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Reminds me of R-type. Any good?
Yes...very! Some of the R-Type folk from Irem worked on it I think.
@SamuFinland Yeah, so far I bought a $600 AUD (with all the add ons) Neo geo...
Next will be Magical Drop III from NeoGeo.
Too bad, it will not included Special version that available on PS1 version.
Is this Cosmic Cop.? I play it all the time on mame..hmm nope it isnt ..but cosmic cop is still cool!
Stock?! Last Resort is amazing!
I will never forget the first time I played this one back in the arcades. There was nothing that could face up to in at home on Amiga, SNES, Megadrive and even PC Engine. It has aged very well indeed.
Heh. Papa Roach.
Nice work there @Mitch
Nice, can't have too many Shmups.
Some Beat-em-ups would be welcome too.
It's good to see all these shmups. However my soul is craving some pure arcade racers. Outrun, Sega rally, daytona, anything. They would look fantastic on the small screen
Damn straight picking this up! Alpha Mission II made me question if the Neo Geo offered much in the way of shm'ups (always felt it excelled in fighting games) but then Blazing Star came out and I busted my load like my sperm had attached rocket boosters.
@Pahvi Been told by a Neo Geo vet that Alpha Mission and its sequel are amongst the weakest of the console's shm'ups so I'd say be ready to snap another if it ends up disappointing.
@bolt05 @SamuFinland
I'm not complaining. Love having these classics to play on the go. Well worth the $600 to me.
I loved super R type on my SNES! ... Anyone here old enough to remember Biometal???
Cant wait for this one on my to buy list.
@Anti-Matter Magical Drop 3 would be brilliant, used to set that up on MAME with some mates along with Wind Jammers.
@SamuFinland Dunno but kudos to them for releasing so many games on the system, and pretty decent quality ports at that. I wish some other companies would do the same, including Nintendo with its own Virtual Console. Keep 'em coming I say.
Game looks good......I haven't purchased any of the Neo Geo games yet but every time one is released It's a struggle to not spend the cash.
Also made me laugh laugh seeing the Papa Roach tag line as I just seen them at a festival and forgot how many of their songs I knew, well done Mitch.
Oooo this is for me. Very R-Typish.
Definitely going to support another Shmup title on the Switch! I'll be grabbing this game tomorrow
I'm good without this one. Holding outhope for King of the Monsters 2. Giant monster beat'em up where you just happen to save the world from giant space aliens.
my first ever neo geo game on bloody massive cart the size of a vhs tape. I loved my neo geo
Haven't gotten any Neo Geo games ever, I just don't think they look good.
Nice, another schmup!
When my SNES30 controller gets here, I'm going to nab a few of these classics for my Switch.
Come on AcA give me three count!
Loving how the Switch has become a proper little portable (and not portable!) Neo Geo. Wish they'd hurry up and release Last Blade 2 though, can't wait for that.
I know I'm going to pick this one up. Just a matter of when.
Has the Switch gotten a Neo Geo game every Thursday since the system came out?
PS4 got it last month so I was hoping it'd come. They also got Last Blade a great 2D fighter like Soul Calibur.
@HeroOfCybertron I believe so. And about 5 at launch. Hamster are filling the VC void with the licenses they can, hopefully they can start putting up the likes of Bubble Bobble and Double Dragon, that are already released under the ACA label on the other consoles.
But we do still have a ton of awesome Neo titles left at least.
@Pahvi me too. I'm really enjoying AM2 but in short bursts.
@Shiryu : Thank you! I scanned the comments for your take on this one. I'm sold!
@bluedogrulez If you love shmups, this one is a no brainer.
@NintyNate The Japanese, non 2 Unlimited score remains superior in my opinion.
Japanese version.
Western version.
I know it was the 90's, but daaaaaaaaaaaaamn...
@SamuFinland I know, it's like it pays for itself! A single Neo Geo game cost as much as a Switch (the last time I saw them retail)!
@ThanosRexx I'm absolutely, definitely, positively NOT going to buy this game. There is absolutely NO way I am buying it. It will NOT be purchased.
Where is that *#@) Hori RAP?
This is definitely one of the ones I've been waiting for. After this, the bulk of what's left (that's good, anyway) is fighting games. Not EVERYTHING, mind you, with Magical Drop 3 and Puzzle Bobble still left, but a good majority is going to be fighting games.
I was actually thinking of getting a few of these when I got my switch, but GOG just got most of them, and when bought in bundles it's $1.50 apiece.....
Wishin' somebody would just tell me I'm fine!
@SamuFinland Cashing in while its the only line of Classic games to buy before the Virtual Console shows its face. XD
Though its also happening on XBONE and PS4 Digital stores, so we're not alone....
@Fuz 80's, 90's, 00's whatever. I just love arcade racers.
@Pigeon yes so would I but don't tell them that!
Art of Fighting 2 for crying out loud!!! Mannn I was a Bad mutha in that game!
Just picked up 8BITDO controller, be picking this up soon as its out, get the whole NEO GEO backlog on the Switch, magic sheer magic
@Shiryu haha never played the Japanese version, but I found the music in ours awesome haha I got it still boxed!
Awesome game and many more sports games left to convert
Windjammers, baseball stars 1/2, super sidekicks 2/3, league bowling.
Magician Lord, ghost pilots, pulstar, cyberlip!
