It looks like Switch racer Redout has been hit with a delay, as retailer Amazon has pushed its release date back to the end of the year.
The game was scheduled for a Q2 release but we've not heard anything else since the launch of the console. Amazon now lists the North American release date as December 29th.

Never heard of...
Can't see it being better than rmx
[shrugs]
It comes when it comes.
The PC version out on Steam is pretty good. But note that the game is now about two years old and was developed with Unity. I don't understand what could be pushing release dates of games like this back, hopefully someone will clarify that.
@gcunit @mattmayatt At first I wasn't worried because of Fast RMX but now that I've played Fast, I think it definetely looks great graphically but the gameplay/physics/tracks personally feel quite average and it doesn't really do it for me at all.. I was completely hoping it to be great and keep trying to get into it but it just doesn't feel right, especially being so accustomed to wipeout.. I am definetely looking forward to Redout but haven't played the Pc version yet so I guess I'll just wait and see. I noticed this date was pushed back a little while ago at least on Amazon.com and haven't heard anything from the devs. That said, 29th Dec is often Amazon's blanket date for when they just don't have a date.
Has anyone played Redout AND Fast RMX?
I have Fast on Wii U but it doesn't do a whole lot for me. I'd like to know how Redout compares.
With Fast RMX and MK8DX both out by the end of the month, it'll probably be better for them to wait until later in the year... although I think 29th December is probably just a placeholder.
I have Redout on PC and Fast Racing Neo, for me Redout is the superior game although both are good. I prefer the twin stick control method in Redout, and the extreme FOV on FR Neo during boost is off putting to me. Generally I prefer the look, feel and music in Redout. I might still try rmx as the reviews are good!
2 racing games in the first 2 months of launch. With one being similar. Probably a good decision to hold off. December is a bit far tho...
I have fast RMX which I think is amazing so Im not that worried about this slipping the radar but I am curious to see how it compares to Fast.
December 29th is just a placeholder date. Skyrim, Xenoblade 2 and Mario Odyssey have the same date listed.
All this developers are waiting for the tsunami that Zelda botw brought into the switch to calm down.
Redout wouldn't happen to be another indie game now would it? Why, yes, it would. Never heard of it either but apparently it's a couple of years old on PC. Great!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Wouldn't be complaining about Switch now would we.
Why yes you are, it's a couple of years old this complaint.
Great!
That's a shame. This game looks pretty good. Of course, it all depends on how it plays. Fast RMX looks good but it doesn't play as well. The online is so incredibly laggy. I'll often cross the finish line first but actually end up second or third. I can't wait till MK8DX later this month so we can actually have a good racer on the switch.
It makes perfect sense for them to postpone this even if the game is completely ready to go. I wouldn't to launch in the same time frame as Fast and Mario Kart either. Wait a few months until the audience is ready for a new racer, and the sales will be that much better. (Not saying this IS the reason for the delay - just that it would make sense.)
Also didn really like fast rmx. It was ok. But i didnt like the feel of the handling. And it got stale to fast. Music was cool. Maybe future racing just isnt my genre. Still a little bit interested in redout. At least it looks better.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Why do you hate indies so much ?
I don't understand how it arms you in any way that some people are having a blast with indie games, while you're enjoying your AAAs. Or should we all play the same way (yours) ?
@Tibob I don't hate indies, I buy them all the time. But where are the 3rd party games? And I mean proper AAA 3rd party games?
Boo. Though surely that's just a placeholder?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I understand, but how is the lack of 3rd party games a consequence of the abundance of indies ? I don't think Nintendo refused any "big game" to prefer them an indie. It's just not related, neither to Redout, nor to any other game.
Mystery solved: Its Nicalis.
I'd rather see them take their time on it then rush out a throw away racing game. Delay's are a good sign that it will be a solid title in the future
Nothing has changed. I pre-ordered this and Binding the day they were listed on Amazon and they had the release date of this game listed as 12/29/17 then. They do that with most of the games that they don't have a fairly firm release date on. That date doesn't mean anything.
That's a placeholder date, the 29th is the last business day of 2017, since games don't launch on weekends. Too bad about this though, I much prefer it to Fast RMX.
I'm not surprise since this is the era of delay games and day one patches. It is infuriating for sure but not surprising at all. Now I have to wonder why. Thats the piece of info we need to know. Is it a developers fault. Is it because sells aren't great as of yet to justify an investment. Or is it because Nintendo didn't send developer kits in time for launch. Or is it the fact that Nintendo is doing more content assessment to ensure quality. Or is a matter of power level on the machine. This concerns me because it has happen to Yooka-Layle, Rime, Pocket Rumble and now this.
Amazon also lists ARMS as due out 12/29/17, but because Nicalis never brought 90s arcade racer to fruition, I have my concerns about Redout. At least we have the glorious Fast RMX.
@BLP_Software In the US it's Sega I believe. Unless the delay involves a shift from Sega to Nicalis as it was always weird that Sega would publish in one region but not another.
Then again your comment applies in either case
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The 3rd party AAAs are not coming. They never were. A few will, yes, you'll get your token entry here and there, and if you consider Monster Hunter and SMT and things like that AAA's then yes, those will. But otherwise, this is not the console for that. Just as the WiiU was not, the Wii was not, the GameCube was not, the 3DS was not, and the DS was not. Nintendo hasn't been in that market since N64 at best, SNES at worst.
We can expect SOME, but not most.
@Jessica286 Reading the internet stream of "game delayed on Switch" makes it seem like there's a standard reasoning for all the delays. But each of those has its own story. Yooka was WiiU then made the Switch late. It takes longer because they started supporting the platform later. Rime was WiiU then switch to Switch late, AND is a version they outsourced to a separate (expensive) company to handle rather than doing it themselves. Not sure about Pocket Rumble. This one, who knows. It's an old Unity game, it shouldn't have trouble, so it's probably a business thing either difficulty with the publisher. Remember final dev kit specs for Switch came out in, what, September? That means these companies haven't had THAT long to work, tweak, and troubleshoot for Switch yet, while they've had 3.5 years or more for PS4/X1.
@NEStalgia Hey, it's Nicalis. They are late for literally everything.
Crud. This was a game I have had pegged for a release day buy. But if it is delayed for 8 months (possibly more) perhaps it is easier to just grab it on Steam ... where it is discounted pretty regularly.
@NEStalgia yeah it may be so. I just don't want another WiiU era of game droughts so it concerns me a big deal. I'm not asking for AAA games on the machine just a constant influx of good games.
@Jessica286 Yeah, well we're just exiting launch month (and in that month got the GOTY and the well loved Snake Pass and a handful of other gems) so April's probably the biggest question mark so far. We got the Lego port yesterday (an actual 3rd party...not sure if I'd call it AAA, and it's a port, but for anyone who didn't own a WiiU, which is most people, it's a big Warner 3rd party multiplat, so that's a good thing)....but yeah we have a little bit of a question mark until MK8D goes into hype mode. Hopefully even in the indies pool there will be something, but retail is looking a fair bit sparse for the next 4-8 weeks. Then again Feb/Mar/April is generally a sparse month in the industry in general. They start cranking (at least hype if not releases) in May and June into E3 and summer vacation for the kids. It's been an odd Winter on Playstation where we're hit with big title after big title after a sparse holiday. And it's not like we didn't know Fall is when they dump the bulk of the announced games.
But what I'd most like to see is Nintendo for once come out of hiding and stop being so silent. After they dropped the Switch, we haven't heard from Reggie or Kyoto at all. They should be out there daily promoting the new platform and promising content. Even if it's PR junk, it keeps our mouths watering....
I'd like to see more announced for short to mid term myself, and Nintendo committed to keeping the droughts minimum after WiiU, though I do think we probably have a jaded image of "no droughts" after forgetting just how bad a "WiiU drought" was compared to anything else. Even one major retail a month is more than WiiU had with it's launch every 4-6 months and barely even indies to fill the void.
@mattmayatt It is better than Fast RMX. Played this game on PC and it is great.
Never heard of it till now
of course, Amazon always lists Dec 29th when they don't know the date and just think it'll be out this year...
Dec 29th is the last day of the year Amazon could hope to ship and have the game arrive in hand around the weekend.
That doesn't mean it is delayed to then, chill it's a placeholder. It could be updated in 1 day or 1 month and say June, next week, September, whatever.
@NEStalgia I think I'm just desperate. Lol! I seriously want to play some games that aren't indies. Also we need a Nintendo Direct! Where is Metroid Prime 4? Bring that game with either Mass Effect grand scale or a Dead Space kind of vibe. I'm please for the most part but in all honesty in terms of April I'm just buying Puyo Puyo Tetris the rest is in wish list waiting for a price drop. I think if Nintendo really wants to get big with Switch they need to give some assurances with release dates, virtual console, online gaming and long time dormant game franchises that people has been desperately waiting for far too long.
@mattmayatt it is, very much so, in my opinion. There's a free demo on steam if you have a half-decent computer! Give it a quick DL.
It's good because I've already spent money on Fast RMX that you Nintendolife rated too high. That game is decent but deserves a 6 or at most a 7. It lacks on design and music department, online is laggy. Some tracks are awful, accidents are just wrong, AI is unbalanced and new players find it hard. Also there are useless mechanics that made it even worse to master (ZR-ZL) and precluded it to support multiplayer with just two Joy-Con.
Fast RMX it's just decent (though it's enjoyable and fine in the end for the price) and got fairer reviews on other sites.
I will consider eventually Redout too but if in the meantime F-Zero just gets announced I will just salute this game with my hand from far away.
I want just F-Zero, this is the truth.
@Shiryu i like the game and totally agree with your sentiment.
Glad I didn't wait and bought RMX. I got impatient and wanted my futuristic racer fix. Just unlocked Hypersonic and having a total blast love it. Hopefully Redout can do the same later on in the year and that way I'll get it too. I wouldn't have bought both at the same time and I had loyalty for FAST since I had NEO on Wii U. Smart move by them if the game is ready.
@Jessica286 LOL, yeah. I mean we knew it was going to be a fairly empty summer in terms of retail (but still better than WiiU....Kart, Arms, Splatoon at minimum), but yeah, I think it's a factor of liking the hardware so much I want more big things to play on it. Though I feel bad wishing my "current platform" time with 3DS away...I really have loved that platform and shouldn't be wishing it away.
@NEStalgia I feel ya! I love Switch so much that I want every game on it.
