The Robotic Operating Buddy - or R.O.B. for short - was one of the many ways Nintendo attempted to differentiate its NES system from "traditional" console platforms which had poisoned the market after the 1983 video game crash.
This robotic companion could connect to the console and interact with various games, but in truth its scope was incredibly limited and it is best remembered today because it looks so darn cool.
If you've ever wanted to know what's inside R.O.B. then that probably makes you a little creepy, but still, YouTuber DangerUss Mort has posted this time lapse teardown and rebuild which we're sure you'll agree makes for riveting viewing. In fact we can't stop watching it, no matter how hard we try.
Do you still have your R.O.B. from back in the day? Is it any more than just an ornament on your shelf? Let us know by posting a comment below, with or without R.O.B. assistance.

No disassemble!!
Never had a R.O.B. back in the day. The NES was the only Nintendo console I didn't own at launch(I was too young) until the Switch came along. This is Nintendo's second €550+ bite at this generation which some people seem to be forgetting. Where we're getting sold games like Lego City Undercover and Mario Kart 8 back to us again with little upgrade but for full whack on the €.
Cool video.
R.O.Bbed of all it's decency!
These things are such a pain to take apart! The fact that you have to balance him upside down to get all the gears and axles properly seated makes for an unreasonable complicated challenge.
I'd forget where everything goes. But poor R.O.B., to be ripped apart like that for someone's twisted pleasure...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
So who cares if it's a repeat at least they try unlike cod. What does each cod add that the last one didn't have. And Mario kart 8 on the go, with all the dlc, new characters, new stages, a new battle mode and better textures
@jman0987654321 There's no new tracks. A few new new characters, big whoop. Splaatoon Boy and Girl are literally file dumps from Splatoon, but hey they're giving us 3 palette swaps. Yes you heard correctly, palette swaps. Like that lazy second wave of Splatoon SCamiibo they released. Apart from the Battle Mode, which they should have fixed on Wii U, there's nothing really new. 2 items now instead of 1. Wow, that must have taking all of a second to code.And of course all the Wii U DLC that we paid for by the way on Wii U is included in the Switch version. Even greedy Nintendo know that there's limits.
To anyone concerned Rob was assembled 100% and is still fully functional, there's a flicker in the vid where I went from disassemble to assemble where I actually stopped the video and cleaned the parts, so it wasn't all in vain
