Sumo Digital has confirmed the pricing for its upcoming physics-based platformer Snake Pass, which launches on March 28th in North America and March 29th in Europe.
The game - which features music by former Rare staffer David Wise - will cost £16.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Sumo has also released the first dev diary for the game, which you can view above.
Here's what creator Seb Liese had to say:
Sharing the first developer diary is great because it shows how quickly the game evolved. That original prototype already had the feel we wanted, but it was building an actual game around it that became the challenge. Seeing that rudimentary green snake is quite comical now. We worked so hard to turn him into something charming and ended up with the Noodle you see today, a character I hope will resonate with people of all ages!
What do you make of this price? Do you think it's too much, or just right?

Seems good to me, definitely a title to buy when I get the Switch (end of the year hopefully).
Looks like a decent price. Can't make a full judgement until we know how much content there is though. Positive!
Price seems pretty good. Whether the game is good or not is the question.
Don't know much about the game but good to see its the same price across all platforms
Have you seen the price of Just Dance 2017 on the switch compared to the PS4 versions??
Absolute madness
Sssounds a bit expensive but then we need to see how much content it hasss.
Perfect, that's just what I thought it might be. I'll be buying.
Really looking forward to it!
Very reasonable price. Much more likely to get this as an impulse buy.
Also, so glad Sterling rate on Switch seems to not be too painful! 1.50 less per 10 looks to be an ok conversion, thought it might have been level this gen!
20 units of the local currency sounds reasonable. If it sounds expensive to you you're welcome to switch your gaming to mobile.
@Marios-love-child Just Dance games, as well as many other Ubisoft games, are full priced when they launch and drop to 10-20€ a month or two after. It's nothing new. The newest Just Dance has been available on the other consoles for 5 months now.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Seems like you think everything is too expensive
£17 is a great price
@Vegaphil Then that shows how much you know. My gaming collection is probably bigger than most peoples. It would be easier to say which Wii U game I don't own than list what I have. I said it was A BIT expensive and then said we don't know how much content it has. It could be fine. You trolls need to get over yourselves.
I'm buying it
Beautiful price point!
If it reviews well, I'm interested.
@Late
New console or not I still don't know how they can justify their pricing
For the record I've absolutely no interest in a Just Dance game as it's simply not my thing.......but speaking as a PS4 Owner and this time in 8 days a Nintendo Switch owner......... if I really wanted Just Dance 2017 why they hell would I Buy the switch version for £49.99 when I can get the PS4 version for £18
Its just crazy and totally unjustified
edit: and yes your right many games are the same... was just using Just Dance as an example
I think this game looks fantastic and that's a price I'm satisfied with
I'm just pleased to see price parity across platforms. Now I'll be most happy to get this on Switch, but I'll wait for reviews, obvs.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I couldn't care less how many Wii u games you own and I certainly was not trolling. I've just grown weary of seeing numerous tiresome posts from you complaining about the price of things and decided to call you out on it in the vain hope that you might tone it down.
@Vegaphil Please don't start getting personal here. This article's about Snake Pass, not any particular user. Please keep comments on topic and non-abrasive.
Everybody - if you see bait, please don't rise to it.
Game on. Looking forward to hearing how this game turns out.
Seems fair enough though until we know whether it's any good or not it's hard to say
@Vegaphil Ignore my comment please if you don't like it. And people are saying €20 is fair but they've absolutely no idea how long it is or how good it'll be. That's being blind and then worse having a pop at me for saying "a bit" and "but". It could be a Barbados threadsnake(world's smallest snake) or it could be a Green Anaconda(world's largest snake).
That higher price point makes me think it'll have more content than I expected. At least I hope so.
Makes it even more enticing. Looking forward to getting more details.
Interesting to see expectations of a lower price than $20, I was guessing they'd go for more. Game looks great.
Expensive.
Pretty good price .
You know, the final design they picked out for the snake suggests it's a venomous fellow.

Seems good to me. Will be buying this, looks really fun and purty
Seems a bit cheap considering what we've seen of the game so far.
That's a good price point. Using my own proprietary system: $20 equates to about 3 decent craft beers Inc tip. Fair.
Now, hopefully the game will be fun to play. I like the premise for sure.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE you raise a good point here. Question I'm asking my self in general is how much content is enough?
For example, I love the room games (only games I have on iPad , prefer 3Ds / Xbox for gaming ). They are very short but I find it to be just right , satisfying and priced at a level that's good enough for me to not even think about it.
With Snake Pass. I'll reserve judgement until I see some early reviews but it looks good to me and if there is some replay value, I'm happy plonking down $20. I wish all games cost that
I'll wait for the review. It looks good and it depends how many games a get day 1.
$19.99 isn't bad. I watched the trailer for this and the game looks really fun.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I am totally with you here. I think 20euro is too expensive for a game of this nature.
My concern? The controls. I don't get the sense that movement will be a clean 1:1 from what I've seen, given the weaving movement of the snake's head. If it is indeed 1:1 movement, and it feels precise, then I'll be much more on board with this one. Like the look, audio, and style, but the controls concern me a bit.
A high price...but the same price on all consoles. Now THAT'S what I wanted to see!
This has quickly become a surprise must for me. I really like what I've seen, including that price. I hope it sells well because it looks really cool and unique.
I feel like this will be a quality game based on what we have seen and heard. (That music though) either way, I'll be getting this day 1.
Day 1 on Switch!! This game looks INCREDIBLY polished!!
It's a fine price,
And honestly I don't care how "LONG" it is or how MUCH CONTENT there is to need to justify the price. Some of the most enjoyable games I've played are merely a few hours long, but beautifully crafted and executed. If you can't see value in the game, don't buy it, simple as that, but don't pull this BS how much content you need to be satisfied. All of this is within reason of course, because we expect more from our hard earned dollars, but c'mon, most people barely complete the main game these days, citing their evergrowing "backlog" of games they will never get to (but bought at a great price no doubt)
@MarioPhD Evidently the snake controls and the snake in general uses a LOT of raw CPU for just this reason you point out.. pretty sure the controls will be solid!! You can always wait for a review.
$20? Bargain. Sold.
Great!
Konami, are we paying attention?
Nice price.
Great price. I'll have to get this one too
A very correct price for an original indie. I'll be waiting for a review, but it sure looks like a fun game!
@Smug43 That's the plan! A good review and I could definitely live with this as a cartoony-mascot-platformer type of thing for early in the Switch's lifetime. Guess I can just wait for Sonic Mania if nothing else!
I will wait for reviews to see if it is worth it in terms of how much content the game has but this interest me.
Still waiting on snipper clippers release date
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You actually started by bringing up a valid point, and then, although admittedly somewhat coerced/ignited/lured into by other comments, you go on a negative rant again, which really is a shame, and I think also quite unnecessary in my opinion.
And what the heck does the size of your game collection have anything to do with you being able to discern if this game is worth its price or not? I've seen you brag about that a couple of times, and honestly, it isn't really working to your benefit...
By the way: if you want to go and have a measuring contest about it, then I should probably give you a little heads-up...
You think you "probably" have a collection bigger than most people on here, but I'd dare to hazard a bet that my collection will DEFINITELY be bigger than yours...
Besides a relatively humble N64 collection of 35 cartridges, I have:
98 Sega Dreamcast games
60 original Xbox games
145 Xbox 360 games
(I also have a bunch of digital ones, but I'm just counting the physical copies as 100% mine)
132 GameCube games
112 Wii games
I also have all Nintendo portables since the Game Boy Color, but my taste in these games has always been rather specific and/or picky, so I won't beat anyone with those numbers (couple of handfuls and a few M3 cards), and you will absolutely beat me on the number of Wii U games, since I've only just bought one last Christmas, so I've still got quite a bit of catching up to do in that department...
But in the end, all of that doesn't matter: it's about quality, NOT quantity. I know people that have FAR more games than me, but they mostly just collect them, so I'd feel quite confident in saying that I know more about my games than they do about theirs, since I've actually played all of them...
I'm hoping this game is good.
Cheaper than I expected.
Wow, this costs less than I would have expected. Looking forward to the review.
Great price!! I'm in and hopefully retail version?
@gcunit perhaps instead, would you mind calling out this particular negative user each time they make a comment? Perhaps some amusing editing will help him or her to step back and think about it. It's quite unfair to go after the users they've harassed as your response
You can add me to the list of people whose eyes roll every time I see the name! Cheers, I look forward to it
@joey302 It's a digital-only game.
Keeping my eyes on it.
It's hard to say whether the price is right without knowing more details, but it does look very pretty - and hey, David Wise music.
@ThanosReXXX The point about my game collection was that he was making me out as being cheap. I've spent at least 5 figures on games over the years. I will spend money on games. I buy games every other week.
People are saying the price is great knowing barely anything about it. I'm sick of people unfairly criticising my posts. To the point where I just ignore certain people.
@Rexx I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be 'calling out' anyone for sharing opinions that don't necessarily win any popularity contests.
And I disagree with your assertion that the user I think you're referring to harasses people. What I see is that user post comments that are relevant to the articles, then other users, who don't like the opinion, decide to jump on the user rather than discuss/debate the basis of the opinion. Tolerate or ignore comments you disagree with, don't hound the user.

@ThanosReXXX ha ha. Hey, having 98 games would drive me mental, I'd HAVE to get two more to round that off
@gcunit well put. I come here because gaming for me is an oasis, a time away from the other BS happening around the world and in life. This site is my fave gaming site with Polygon a close second. However, this site has a really lively comments section which is fun and engaging. Negative stuff against other users (even if they are moaning on) isn't cool. Glad you pointed out that rule
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I can understand that, but like you yourself suggested to others, why not just ignore them? And your original point WAS valid, but then you kinda ruined it. Whether or not inspired by others to do so is not so much the point.
But to respond to your comment in a serious manner:
you yourself also said that we actually don't know enough about the game yet, so if that is so, then it is also a bit too soon to judge it as being too expensive.
To me personally, it actually looks quite polished and it has some interesting mechanics. And throw in some music from David Wise and this might very well be a surprise hit. But we'll know soon enough...
@KIRO Haha, yeah, I know the feeling of wanting to end up on round numbers. But I'm not just going to buy any random game to get to that point. If there aren't any more interesting games, then I just don't buy them.
But I just add them all up and as long as the grand total is a round number, I can live with it...
@ThanosReXXX Exactly, I did say that and I still got attacked. And yes it has some very good things going for it as you've mentioned. I'll keep an eye on it but sure I probably won't be playing it until next year. And speaking of David Wise, I also will have to wait to play Yooka-Laylee, switched my Wii U support over to Switch. Really should have got a refund after how we were shafted but anyway that's another story. I have high hopes for that game and want them to do well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Do you really feel that they screwed you? You could choose any other version, now including the Switch, so in the end everybody still gets the game somehow. It's not like you paid and got nothing...
They could have also just canceled the Wii U version and then NOT make a Switch version, but they didn't do that, so to me that's fair enough, also considering them more or less being a startup company even though they consist mainly of industry veterans, but the costs involved and the possible revenue to gain from a Wii U version would be far lower than that of any other platform, so business-wise, it's completely understandable.
And that Switch version is there after all, so the glass is indeed half full, my friend. Nothing to be all too angry about, methinks...
But maybe we'd best leave that one alone, since it is indeed off-topic...
@Vegaphil Sorry if his slightly different opinion upset you. I agree with him - it could be too expensive for its content, and we really need to wait and see exactly what content it has and not jump on the hype train that may not have its track finished.
Good price now i will buy it for sure.
@gcunit
Thanx for the refreshing sanity.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I love reading your posts. You are one of the reasons I follow some of these comment sections. Your opinions keep it real sometimes.
Game looks cool to me. But I am absolutely cheap and Id have to wait till there is a great big price drop.
Only getting this to listen to the music.Any game with David Wise = instant buy.
It also looks decent.
very excited about this. I love how the game seems to be about experimenting with the snake physics, and how the snake moves and reacts in different situations. Like forming a knot around a hook lever to pull it down or manoeuvring the snake in such a way to climb up awkward structures to reach new areas or collectibles. I can't think of a game in the past that has had this kind of a focus on clever physics of the lead character to explore and solve puzzles. Yes the physics in say 3D Mario games are clever but they are fundamentally very human like, running jumping etc. This is totally different and therefore original. Plus the music is classic DWise, sounds beautiful and I cannot wait for this.
I'm already sold on the concept. Do the other worlds (I've only seen the first world) have enough good level design to engage players with innovative challenges, and do they work like a charm with those neat snake physics? I think controlling the snakes head direction with 3D motion would be cool.
Very reasonable price, is there going to be a retail copy?
