No one quite does 2D shooters like the Japanese and that's why STUDIO TOKOYO's Mani Yugi TOKOYO has really caught our attention.
The game made its debut at BitSummit 4th and was originally expected to arrive on the New Nintendo 3DS at the end of this year, but STUDIO TOKOYO put a stop to development and turned to Japanese crowdfunding site Campfire to raise funds.
The dev is looking to raise ¥2,000,000 by March 7th next year. A western version under the title Zen Shooting TOKOYO is a stretch goal, as is a Switch port.
Would you like to see this come to the west, and perhaps the Switch? Let us know by shooting over a comment below.

I think I'll pass.
Never hear of much Kickstarter projects for games anymore. Maybe it's just because I only visit here and sometimes Pushsquare for the most part or is it something that has become less common?After all the funded projects that never came to be it wouldn't surprise me.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Do you like any games at all?
Hi Damien, thanks again for crediting my wee little blog.
Oh, and really looking forward to the game!
Refuse to back Kickstarters. Devs always lie. No point in saying you will support something only to drop it.
@Moms-Meowth
"Devi always lie". How old are you? 3 1/2
@Damo Sorry but I'm not going to be buying the Switch for games like this. I love games like Ikaruga but not games in this style. Zelda: BOTW is my most anticipated game. I doubt many people here will be excited for this but paper never refused ink.
@Mart1ndo Learn to spell. How old are you?
@Moms-Meowth I was going to mention Kickstarter after Yooka-Laylee but this is Campfire. Still, they're all the same. Once bitten, twice shy.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Exactly. I put into not only Yooka but Project cars and both time's i got stung. So no more for me when it comes to Kickstarter.
I was going to say what @Moms-Meowth already said before even opening the article. Of course, there's more hope with the Switch, but given what happened so far with Kickstarter-founded projects, the Nintendo fanbase can't just be expected to back a game because it could end up on Nintendo consoles, not when these fans still want their Yooka-Laylee money back.
That just looks a bit too much of a cacophony to want to play honestly.
this is not he shmup I'm looking for...
I’m looking after an autistic guy that absolutely loved that video. I think that sums it up (he is Japanese mind you) truth is I’m over playing games that look like they were made in the eighties, bring on every game we saw in the switch trailer, that’s what I will be using my switch for, and you will never be able to get me off it
After all the problems with crowdfunding, that they had began development and suddenly interrupted it to raise funds is a warning Flag for me
Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga must make it to the Switch. If I had those two shooters, I wouldn't ever need another one. This game looks like something I'd pick up to weird out my friends.
Looks sweet
Lol i give these games a go, i like it. Easy to play and fun to play while at work.
Ans then stop and play zelda or another game again lol, the Nintendo Switch is just Genius!
Wow...the plot is "Against the Gods" ?
Just look at Heavenly creatures as the enemies during gameplay.
@Moms-Meowth
Why don't you buy a decent console then if you want to play 3rd party games and stop playing the victim.
It's a bit harsh on the eyes, I don't think I'd be picking this one up. I'm not denying it could end up being a good game, but this genre of game isn't really my thing anyway.
I'll admit it, this is exactly my bag. I hope more games like this come to Switch, but the whole Kickstarter thing is becoming a little tired now.
I don't mind how it looks, but if that horrible garbled mess is the best "music" they can produce then you can sign me off.
One of the main reasons I like oldschool shooters so much is because they're synonymous with great soundtracks.
I miss games like this...
It looks okay, some good pixel art too. Maybe a tad too psychedelic to me. I'd have to see the final product to determine a purchase though I absolutely love classic shooters!
Ikaruga is one of the reasons I keep my GameCube, and the same goes for the vast selection of imported CAVE games that keep my Xbox 360 running.
I'm terrible at bullet hell shooters, so... no, thanks.
@Mart1ndo Not playing the victim. Also about decent consoles. Here's what i own for the record.2DS, Nes, N64, Wii U, PSOne, PS3 PS4 and a fairly high end gaming PC. Reason I wanted the U version is it's my choice of console i like to play on.
This actually looks really nice, and the music seems great too, I'd be very eager to play this on 3ds.
Doesn't look bad.
Am I the only one who noticed the fact that a dev for a cute 'em up where you play as a buddhist monk chants his way past demons and demi-gods, is asking for donations in order to further his endeavours?
Of course. Because you guys are too busy being salty to eachother. Jesus Christ, guys, take some cues from the Golden Buddha and learn to Zen.
Besides, guys, we already have Recca.
Looks, kinda boring....
@Joeynator3000 LMAO
i beat this game with my eyes closed
@BriBri No problem! Keep up the good work!
@JTMnM Can't agree more. The big 3 console makers need to realize that by bringing these shooters/SHMUPS to your console, you get a nice niche market. Nintendo needs to comission some ex CAVE employee's to dev a game. That or bring all those indie shmups that are on PC over to Switch.
@TomKnows I'm sure I'm not alone when I suggest Nintendo should strike a deal with Treasure in bringing over their entire catalog.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @Damo Ikaragu 2 Switch required!
@cfgk24 That would be sweet. No reason it couldn't happen if Nintendo took out the cheque book. But that right there is the problem.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Tbf - I think Nintendo have been writing a lot of cheques lately. .. . We will see the results in the new year!
My kind of game. Not exactly hell-bullet but the gigantic bosses are my thing and I love that takes both screens on the 3DS (WE NEED MORE GAMES LIKE THAT!).
