Nintendo has a mixed record in awards shindigs over the past year, scooping some nice prizes and coming up empty in others. A chance for a bit more glory is coming up on 20th November, however, in the British Academy Children's Awards.
The Kids' BAFTAs celebrate the best of TV, Film, Games and more for children in the UK. In the awards picked by the selection committee Nintendo misses out, with the following four titles being up for the Game award.
- LEGO Dimensions
- LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Ratchet & Clank
- Tearaway Unfolded
The big N and The Pokémon Company have a chance in the BAFTA Kid's Vote, however. 7-14 year olds can vote for their favourite out of a shortlist of ten games; no, we're not sure the age limit can be managed. In any case, Nintendo has a couple of releases in with a chance, while a majority of the games have been released on Nintendo hardware.
- Crossy Road
- Disney Infinity 3.0
- FIFA 16
- Just Dance 2016
- LEGO Dimensions
- Minecraft
- Pokémon GO
- Skylanders SuperChargers
- Super Mario Maker
- LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The voting's open until 18th November, and the ceremony is in London on 20th November.

I kinda want Ratchet and Clank to win if only then we can tell Sony that just shoehornin this out for a movie tie-in isn't exactly a good way to treat a franchise, and as it is the highest selling in said franchise, more of this please. It's what made you in the PS2 days in terms of quality. It's why I bought a PS4 but sadly seems like it'll be one and done.
this cant end well
Children deserve better than PGo. However, SMM has a pretty good chance of winning.
Crossy Road will win.
Was shopping in Target yesterday, wandering around the video game section, and it certainly looked worse this year for kids than it has in awhile.
New big Lego section but mostly older games with a couple of new play LD sets. Skylanders is still there with the new game Imaginators just recently releasing. But that's about all I could think of. Pokémon should do really well this year, not that it needs any help, but on home consoles it feels like there isn't any big new draw. Not that Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival was much of anything.
Good to see that Marvel Playmation section gone, never did know what that was doing with the video games anyway. But will kids be excited about Sega Gear and NES Mini? Guess we'll find out.
But if kids this year all switch to smartphones and tablets it's partly the video game industries fault. Where are the games? Even kids must be sick of Just Dance by now. Could be a banner year for the $79 2DS; PS4 and X1S aren't doing a good job at family games, Wii U doesn't have any games, and NX is an urban legend.
$199 iPod Touch sales may be up this holiday for Super Mario Run. If the kids don't come back, Nintendo can blame itself for contributing to the migration. Though 3DS is trying it's hardest, AC: Old Leaf could be big again. And Disney Magical World 2. Nintendo though probably just remove the Wii U kiosks from all store and blitz on a trifle take of 2DS, 3DS, and 3DS XL displays. Yokai Watch alone seems a waste of space, promote the Selects more. I haven't even seen a sign for SMM on 3DS. We may moan the lack of online, but parents may appreciate it. Get it in gear Nintendo, if you aren't going to have any Wii U games, smoother the world with the 3DS family and it's games library, new and old.
Good luck to super mario maker!
I hope star rush wins next year too 😊
All of the movies I either didn't like or haven't seen, most of the TV shows are not good, and the game selection was terrible. (Crossy Road and Skylanders, really? Also, I haven't played Pokémon GO in months and I sold Mario Maker. If I did vote, it would be for a Lego game; I tried both of them out and I enjoyed what I played.
Super Mario maker was really good. Now it just stresses me out when I play. Them super expert mode and just the expert mode are just too much for me
Pokemon GO itself is great for kids... the problem is Niantic's handling of it.
@Niinbendo I wasn't trying to type Nintendo, I was misspelling Niinbendo.
Ratchet and Clank is the best game on the list.
Am I alone in supporting the portable iteration of Maker?

I'm surrounded
The BAFTAs, like so many awards (Booker prize, cough cough) are a load of mass pleasing, back patting rubbish which serves not to reward genuine talent, but multiply sales for rich sponsored nominees and publishers.
They are by definition, a joke.
Great games but to be perfectly honest I think Ratchet & Clank should win. Not only is the game beautiful it's insanely fun to play. I rarely bother with the New Game Plus concept because of all the new games I could be playing instead but without R&C I instantly restarted! It's just incredibly fun.
It's basically the kind of game I wish Nintendo was making. A Nintendo X Insomniac game would be a dream come true for me!
Kirby?
Should give Level Maker a try, it's free.
