At E3 Activision had announced that PlayStation owners would get a special Crash Bandicoot Starter Pack with characters and levels from the classic game in the forthcoming Skylanders Imaginators. At Gamescom 2016 we finally got to hear how Wii U (and Xbox) owners can get in on the Crash action.
First off we have another character revealed - although we knew he was coming already. Dr. Neo Cortex takes a bow as a Sensei Skylander. He and Crash offer access to the Thumpin' Wumpa Islands level that is designed to deliver a nostalgic Crash Bandicoot experience. A bit of time playing through the start of this area soon revealed a classic massive boulder chase, TNT boxes, crabs, hazards, temple ruins, Wumpa Fruit and of course lots of exploding crates.
Of more interest to Wii U owners though is the announcement of the new Skylanders Imaginators Thumpin' Wumpa Islands Adventure Pack that will be available "this holiday" (Christmas then?). This will include Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex as fully playable toys along with the new levels.
So unless you have a PlayStation you can't play this at launch, but still it's good to see this heading to the Wii U later in the year. This makes the Wii U the only place to be able to access all 300+ Skylanders characters -- because of the ongoing exclusivity of the amiibo-Skylander cross over characters. Hurrah!

Nice to see my good ol' boy Cortex is doing fine.
For anyone who was somehow intrigued by the trivia I posted about the character, here's more - I hope he will be voiced by Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor's DCAU voice actor, yes) just like in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, and Crash Team Racing.
I could post the second game's opening cutscene, but that unfortunately gives away the ending of the first game (as it takes off immediately after said ending), so here's the second game's game over sequence instead.
I just can't get hyped about Crash Bandicoot. He's only just more likable than Bubsy the Bobcat.
@AlexSora89 Ah Clancy Brown, just one of the many examples of Badass Baritone.
@GrailUK I think Crash suffers the same problem as Sonic, albeit much less extreme, in that both are a product of their times. Though the main difference is that the creators of Crash knew when to stop, unlike Sega's Sonic factory.
@Ed_Fairway Nice point! Mario became a mascot, Crash and Sonic were created as one.
@Ed_Fairway
He was voiced by Brendan O'Brien in the first game, for those curious, as seen (or, better yet, heard) in its opening cutscene. And yeah, as far as the ND Crash games go, this is the only time Crash says anything else than his death cry of "WHOA!".
@AlexSora89 Funny enough I have heard O'Brien's voice, my brother played the original. I don't know why but I felt like they sounded like a variation of Captain Hook.
@GrailUK Couldn't put it better myself
Ya know, I don't like the toys-to-life concept and I'm not a huge fan of Skylanders, but damn it, I'm so tempted to get the PS4 version of the game, because it's been so long since we had a proper Crash Bandicoot game, and this is the closest we get to one (besides the remasters, of course)
On a side note, I wonder if Lex Lang is gonna voice Cortex in this.
@Ed_Fairway A bit like Nintendo's Mario Factory, then?
>_<
No....
@RainbowGazelle Is this what you had mind?
i liked skylanders, but those figures ended up being clutter and a pain in the butt.....
@Ed_Fairway
Aaaaaaaaaaaand now I can't help but picture in my head Cortex going "SMEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!", thank you very much.
This game will definitely be on my Christmas list!
@AlexSora89 My serendipity mind strikes again mwahahaha!
It's so nice that they got Vicarious Visions to create the Wumpa Islands level. They not only work on every other Skylanders game (this year was Toys for Bob's turn to work on it, but they got V.V specifically for this level) but they also worked on most of the Crash Bandicoot games! Toys for Bob could have normally worked on it themselves and hastily put it together with a vague Crash theme, but the fact that they went through so much trouble to make it as close to the originals as possible shows how much they actually care about the players and not just making money.
@Ed_Fairway Yeah, basically. Nintendo just keeps crapping out Mario games at an ever-quickening pace, whilst the quality continues to decline.
@RainbowGazelle I believe it's due to the aging population of Japan, with no youth to replace the elderly, no new ideas can give rise.
Crash back on Nintendo .
@Ed_Fairway
I can't quite recall if there was ever any instance of Cortex running away from something, aside from the Wrath Of Cortex ending (which ties into the Crash Twinsanity title screen).
@AlexSora89 My memories of Crash are a tad hazy as well.
@Ed_Fairway

Mine are too, aside from the downright sublime and unforgettable Naughty Dog games.
I can't forget the very-much-implied-to-be-drunk Cortex posing as Julius Caesar during the opening cutscene of the Tiny Tiger boss fight in Crash Bandicoot 3.
After seeing the video, it makes me wish that spyro also had a reboot to resemble his original design......
