Nintendo of Europe has inked a deal with CD Media SE which will see the latter distributing the former's hardware and software in Greece and the Balkan region from October 1st this year.
Nintendo has lacked a distribution partner in the territory since the end of last year, when its deal with Nortec Multimedia SA came to an end.
Here's what the key people had to say about the agreement:
Satoru Shibata, President of Nintendo of Europe, said, "We are very happy to begin our co-operation with CD Media, and we would like to thank all Nintendo fans in Greece and surrounding territories for their continued support in our franchises. We believe CD Media has a very strong team and service infrastructure in the region to deliver our content."
Spiros Jamas, President of CD Media, said, "We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have been selected by Nintendo of Europe as their regional distribution partner. This is a pivotal moment in our development as the leading distributor of digital entertainment in the region. We are committed to provide Nintendo fans and consumers in general in the region with exemplary service and support."
Thanks to PanOS for the tip!

A Greek tragedy?
Good for them! Now what about Brazil...?
Great news for Greece!
Great news!
While I admire the Greeks for their contributions to history, their economy is in tatters.
Here's to hoping they escape being a colony of the Fourth German Reich.
@TheWPCTraveler Unfortunately I don't see that happening any time soon.
Regarding these news I'm really happy about it although I'd prefer NoE itself to take on the distribution. After Nortec closed down I was pretty pessimistic and believed that Greece would be left without any distributor at all. Let's hope CD Media does a good job.
In exchange for a copy of Breath of the Wild, we will give you......Greece. We'll pay you the rest later.
@KappaBeta The same sort of arrangement is done with the Scandinavian countries. At least there, Nintendo of Sweden is at least willing to provide rough retail sales rankings.
I'd be really impressed, though, if NoE is able to build a supply chain across every Slavic country in Europe, from Bulgaria to Russia to Poland to Montenegro.
As for Greece, I'm trying to play as them in Victoria II with the New World Order mod. It's really frustrating to deal with their low population and poor economy, but it's fun, too.
Nintendo has been neglecting certain countries for years, and thats a real shame. Not too many people know nintendo in Poland, Playstation and xbox can be bought even at local supermarkets. If you want to buy a wii u, you have to order it online. Thankfully we have got some nice and reliable stores.
@TheWPCTraveler Apparently CD Media will also be the distributor in some Balkan Slavic countries (Bulgaria, FYROM, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia) plus some others (Cyprus, Albania, Romania).
Try to restore the Byzantine empire!
Great news for us Greek Nintendo fans.
@teoulas Cyprus fan over here Used to get my things from Public where they got their stuff from Nortec Multimedia SA
I'm happy. I like Greece and the Greek people. They deserve the Nintendo happiness 😊
@KappaBeta You just went ahead and listed all of them, assuming you count Kosovo as "Slavic."
The nice thing about my playthrough is that I haven't gone bankrupt yet, so I'm somehow fourth in the world in terms of prestige, and best educated to boot.
The downside is that I haven't progressed enough to make my Greece a naval superpower, and on top of that, my education is setting off trends that eat away at my population (this is a mod-specific feature, though).
Here are a few "features" of my playthrough:
To acquire cores on Thrace and Smyrna, I need to break away from the USA sphere, but I'm not sure I can do so cleanly without either becoming a GP or getting destroyed militarily (Turkey is 6x my size).
Wish me luck, and maybe Cyprus too. Because I conquered them, hehe.
Great news !!
@IamWaluigi Didn't they say that they are leaving the market for Brazil because of that market being too expensive?
Forget Brazil, What about Asia?
☺
A Frankie Valli reference?! But does it have groove & meaning?
@TheWPCTraveler Except the Fourth German Reich won't be German, it will be the EU leaders... Or perhaps the English leaders, if they push through the Brexit.
@PlywoodStick Eh, people might attack me for saying EUSSR. It rolls better off the tongue, though.
@Socar Nintendo has presence here only through retailers that go through the American market, if you don't live in Malaysia, Singapore, or Thailand. Or Play-Asia, if that counts.
Actually, there are some channels that go to the Middle East, but I'm not sure just how well-organized they are.
I'm leaving out Korea and China, for obvious reasons.
That's a good news for the Greek people!
@Toadsfriend ,
I absolutely agree with you!
